Two new-ish LEGO Batman Tumblers coming in 2021!

It’s a big day for news, we now have official photos and details of the two upcoming LEGO Batman sets – a big and small Tumbler from Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy!

The larger 2021 UCS-scale Tumbler, 76240 Batmobile Tumbler weighs in at 2,049 pieces, and will retail for US$229.99 / AU$399.99 / £209.99, with a release date of 1 November 2021, but pre-orders are open now!

The smaller Tumbler, 76239 Batmobile Tumbler: Scarecrow Showdown clocks in at 422 pieces, and will retail for US$39.99 / AU$59.99 / £34.99 with an 1 October 2021 release date, but can be pre-ordered now!

In a nutshell, we’re getting a refreshed update to 2014’s 76023 The Tumbler – with some minor aesthetic changes, and a slighly larger piece count, new wheels at the back and fresh new minifigures.

For those on a budget, a smaller version of The Tumbler is also available, along with Scarecrow from Batman Begins, which is a fantastic and accessible alternative which is great if you already have the original 2014 Tumbler.

I really like the smaller Tumbler as a budget option, or for those of us that are running out of display space.

It’s unknown why the outsized focus on Tumblers – it’s been 7 years since the last one, which has gotten quite pricey on the secondary market, but the only other thing I can think of is that it’s loosely a 15th (ish) anniversary of Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy?

The new 2021 UCS Tumbler is a bit of a surprise, mostly because of how similar it looks to the 2014 version. LEGO haven’t done much with it, when many were expecting a Tan, Desert-coloured version as a variant, but this will be good news for those that missed out on the 2014 version.

Here’s how the 2021 UCS Tumbler compares against the 2014 UCS Tumbler.

At least you get new minifigures, including an all-new Heath Ledger Joker minifigure in his green vest, which you may remember from the scene where he’s arrested in Gotham PD’s jail cell.

The biggest change in how it looks is the massive back wheels on this unit, which raises it about 1cm higher, and also extends the length of the Tumbler by abut 5cm compared against the 2014 version.

I do like the Turntable for it, which will no doubt improve the displayability of the set.

76239 Tumbler: Scarecrow Showdown

The Tumbler Batmobile™ from the Dark Knight™ trilogy of Batman movies, is one of the most iconic, battle-ready vehicles in cinema history. It has an opening roof, which provides access to the driver and passenger seats and control panel.

There are 2 stud shooters fitted to the front of the vehicle. There’s even somewhere to store the Batarang™. 2 minifigures are included: Batman, with a Batarang, grappling gun and alternative ‘nightmare’ head; and the Scarecrow, with a stud shooter and toxic fear gas cannister. When the battle action is over for the day, the Tumbler Batmobile looks awesome on display in kids’ rooms.

Now this, I really like – a compact, yet still great looking Tumbler for those on a budget, or without space. While I am on the fence about the new UCS Tumbler, this is 100% going on my to-buy list.

Add in two great new minifigures – a new Batman which an awesome Batman Begins suit, a new version of the Scarecrow, and this becomes a very compelling buy for LEGO Batman fans.

I also LOVE the alternate face for Batman, featuring the scary demonic-looking Batman that’s perceived by criminals hit by Scarecrow’s gas.

This is going to be an extremely popular set for adults and kids come Christmas time, and I can see this doing exceptionally well just like the Classic Batmobile.

And that’s my thoughts on the 2 new Tumblers! I’m still unsure whether the big Tumbler is 100% necessary, but I am really excited by the compact version.

It’s been a rough year for DC and Batman fans, especially with so many exceptional Marvel sets being churned out, but this seems like a nice olive branch from LEGO to remind Batman fans that they’ve not been forgotten.
