Viking Village has won the LEGO Ideas x Target fan vote, and will be turned into an official LEGO Set!

Remember the LEGO Ideas x Target fan vote that ran in May this year? To refresh your memory, LEGO Ideas and Target (US) came together to give fans a second chance at a previously successful 10k LEGO Ideas project, with the following fan ideas:

Over 34,000 votes were cast and and LEGO have officially announced the winner! Viking Village by BrickHammer, edging out the Working Mini Golf Course by a substantial margin!

Here are the vote tallies

  • Viking Village – 16,317
  • Working Mini Golf Course – Fully Playable – 11,575
  • Marine Life – 6,732

This is a fantastic move, and I voted for Viking Village, so am mighty pleased that it won the fan vote! I was honestly expected the Mini Golf to win, but I am very happy that this set has gotten a second lease of life.

It’s a great time to be a fan of Vikings, as this is set to be a mini revival of the old Viking theme, and would be a great companion to 31132 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent!

This isn’t the final model, as we’ll have to wait for LEGO to reveal the official set, and we won’t have any indication of the release date yet, so we’ll likely have to wait a while for it.

On the Target exclusivity

So just before anyone panics and thinks that this will only be exclusive to Target stores in the US – it won’t be.

The LEGO Viking Village set will be a retailer exclusive in the United States, but it will also be available on LEGO.com or your local LEGO Store, and have a normal widespread distribution globally.

Why Target? LEGO sets are huge undertakings, and working with a large US retailer like Target, allows them to “pre-sell” enough quantities of the set to Target, helping make this set a commercially viable undertaking.

In the meantime, check out more photos of the fan design for an idea of what to expect!

Congratulations again to BrickHammer for having his fan design turned into an official LEGO set. I can’t wait to see the finished product!

Based on the timeline, and prior history with Ideas, any speculation/guesswork on when this will happen? I understand that it’s up to LEGO, though would this be a mid 2023 release….? I’ll of course keep an eye on your blog, as well as LEGO e-mails though was just wondering on an estimate so that I may ready the bank account 😛

Picked up the Viking sets as a kid and was heavily into them. I remember spending time building them with my parents and having them decorate my room. Now as an adult, we’re gonna have to build the Viking Village together to have the truly complete Vikings collection!

Looks great but I am little worried about the price tag. Lately a lot of big sets with big price tags in ideas category.
