We’re now an official Online RLUG! (Recognised LEGO User Group)

April 1, 2016 By Jay 68 Comments

LEGO Ambassador Network Brick - Jay's Brick Blog

So, I’ve been meaning to share this exciting piece of news for awhile – Jay’s Brick Blog is now officially an Online Recognised LEGO User Group!

Whoa, what does that mean? Well, traditionally, LEGO User Groups (LUGs) have been formalised groups and communities of LEGO enthusiasts who meet regularly to share and interact with other like-minded LEGO fans. Think of them as a LEGO club of sorts.

Recognised LUGs are those that have been officially recognised by LEGO and are part of the LEGO Ambassador Network, which provides all sorts of benefits such as having a designated LEGO Ambassador to represent them within the network, and also qualify for support from LEGO such as activity packs, LUGBulk and also participate in special projects or activities run by the LEGO AFOL Relations Program (ARP).

So an online RLUG is pretty much the same, except of course, since we’re all scattered around the world, we don’t necessarily get to meet up or hold displays BUT we still get to gush over our love of LEGO via the magical powers of the internet.

LEGO Ambassador Network - Jay's Brick Blog

As an online RLUG, one of the main benefits is having a direct line of communication with LEGO as well as getting support from LEGO such as early review sets (the recent 21305 Ideas Maze review was the first opportunity I was offered) and other forms of support/prizes if any.

I’m mostly excited about access to early review copies, which allows me to compete with the larger LEGO blogs and news sites on a more even footing. Also, the idea that future giveaways and activities might be on the cards is pretty fun too,

There are some limitations now that we’re an official online RLUG such as the fact that I won’t be allowed to share leaked images or set news – which is why I didn’t post about the first LEGO Disney Minifigures leak. Not that I do much of that anyway.

So yeah, exciting news and I’m super honoured to be a LEGO Ambassador! 2016 is shaping up to be an awesome year, and I’m very excited at the opportunities that this will bring. In terms of the blog… there won’t be any huge changes, I’ll still be writing reviews, reporting on interesting news and covering the LEGO scene down under so it’ll be business as usual!

Special thanks to everyone for making this possible. This wouldn’t have happened without all of you and I am forever grateful for all the comments, discussions and conversations! So if you’ve never been part of a LEGO User Group, congratulations, you’re in one now! Thanks for making Jay’s Brick Blog such a thriving community!

I am wanting to order 300 of white 2×4 bricks for a school project. Any advise getting this build order? I have tried the AUKLug group in NZ but they are no help at all!

Ah bummer! For a bulk order with those quantities, I’d look at Bricklink for that. 300 bricks in a single colour is a little tricky as I’m not sure any local stores have 300, but you could try ordering from European stores.

      https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3001#T=S&C=1&O={%22color%22:1,%22st%22:%224%22,%22iconly%22:0}

Let me know if that could work for you, if not, drop me an email and I can tap my networks to see if I can get you any help.

Hey William, I’m actually not too well-versed with LEGO as investments, so I don’t know how I can help. If you’re looking to purely invest, I’m sure that there are better avenues to make money such as Index Funds.

With collectibles like LEGO, you really do need to do your homework, and I feel that LEGO is quite a risky investment as LEGO have and will continue to re-release old, retired sets.

If you’re really keen on investing anyway, it’s usually the non-obvious sets (not Modulars or Creator Expert) that appreciate – sets like Speed Champions due to the collectability, and also certain Ideas sets as they usually have short lifespans.

Sets with pop culture relevance like Wall-E also tend to do well, but it’s really, really hard to predict which sets will spike.

Sorry that I can’t be of more help!

It's a bit of a strange one this year, with the pandemic throwing plans into disarray, and my family being further away than usual, so celebrations were a little different in 2021.

Thank you @LEGO for an excellent range of Chinese Traditional Festival sets. 🙏

@little.ong (and myself) really loved the Duplo Happy Childhood Moments set, and I especially enjoyed the new dumplings element! 🥟

Spring Lantern Festival is one of the best LEGO sets I've had the pleasure of building, and I also appreciated the foray into the mythological origins of Lunar New Year with Story of Nian. 🧨🧧🎆

Hit the link in bio to read the full review

For #Ninjago fans, it doesn’t get much better than this. 71747 The Keeper’s Village is packed with value and is a great centerpiece to Season 14 – The Island.

I have a soft spot for location, or structure-based Ninjago builds, so The Keeper’s Village strikes that itch in the best of ways.

The jungle lair sets the scene and provides a rich backdrop that works really well as a small playset and display piece.

Combined with a very generous helping of 5 minifigures, there’s a ton of value and playability built into the set, especially the stone pillar which works remarkably well as a “big enemy” for the Ninjas to deal with – it very much gives off a “mini-boss in a video game vibe”.

The highlights for me would be Chief Mammatus and Thunder Keeper’s designs. As a big fan of the Islanders theme, I love that #LEGO could callback to those designs in a fresh new way, utilising the tech and innovation that’s now possible through minifigure design.

Whether you’re an adult fan looking for a set that’s a bit more kiddy, outlandish and fun, or you’re planning to buy this for a young child who wants an engaging playset, I can highly recommend 71747 The Keeper’s Village.

Rating and score: 4/5 ★★★★✰
