Review: LEGO 76200 Bro Thor's New Asgard

Break out the cold beers, pizza and get cosy as I bring you this early review of 76200 Bro Thor’s New Asgard, one of the most entertaining LEGO Marvel Super Heroes sets to date!

Featuring the long-awaited debut of rock alien Korg (voiced by Thor Ragnarik director and lovable kiwi Taika Waititi), Miek in larval form, and of course, Bro Thor with his voluptuous dad-bod, it’s legitimately a marvel that this New Asgard scene from Avengers Endgame got turned into a LEGO set.

76200 Bro Thor’s New Asgard will be available on 1 August 2021, and is now available to pre-order on LEGO.com in the United States. This is likely going to be one of the most popular LEGO Avengers sets this year, so highly recommend pre-ordering if you’re afraid of missing out.

Firstly, here’s a look at the sticker sheet. Not too surprising given the price of the set, but thankfully, these stickers are fairly easy to apply as they all go on tiles.

Like any Marvel set, the characters are truly the star of the set, and Bro Thor’s New Asgard comes with 2 exclusive minifigures – Bro Thor, with his beer belly, and the debut of the Korg minifigure which has been a long time coming.

Miek (the scissor alien dude) is in his larval form is technically not a minifig, but we’ll let him hang as he’s cool.

The Korg minifigure is just perfect – he has a new headpiece, with texture for his craggy rocky head, and is outfitted much like Thor director Taika Waititi’s personal fashion sense – in a floral Hawaiian shirt.

His shirt has what I think are red hibiscus flowers and leaves on them, which is slightly inaccurate as the movie version has pineapples on them.

In the New Asgard scene, Korg is seen gaming, and is thus equipped with a video game controller, and headphones.

Miek is really simple – a purple head with his 6 eyes and mandibles, on purple flower pieces, which I believe is a new colour for the element.

Here’s a look at Korg’s back print, and also his alternate head which has a smile with teeth.

The star of the set is of course Bro Thor, who stole the New Asgard scene, when it was revealed that the Asgardian God of Thunder, just let himself completely go, and turned flabby over a diet of beer and pizza.

The minifigure features Thor proudly showing off his shirtless flab, which has his large protruding beer belly hanging over his legs – achieved cleverly by printing that extends onto his legs. He’s wearing checked pyjama pants, and has long unkempt hair.

For his weapon of choice, he is armed with Stormbreaker, and a slice of pizza.

Here’s a look at Thor’s back printing, which has some uh, flabby folds and definition. It’s a shame that the sides of his legs aren’t printed.

And yes, Thor’s alternate face has his eyes lit up with lightning, because “This is the ideal make body. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.”

In all honesty, this is a strong contender for one of the best LEGO minifigures of 2021. Bro Thor is absolutely hilarious, and is a great addition to the Marvel Super Heroes lineup.

Here’s a look at Bro Thor and Korg’s bachelor pad – it’s an absolute mess, with pizza boxes, bottles, slices of pizza strewn all over the place. It probably smells as bad as it looks.

There are some really funny Easter Eggs and great Avengers Endgame references thrown in – such as this New Asgard Times newspaper, which has the headline “5 years after the blip”, which dates this as 5 years post-Thanos’ snap.

I love the pizza boxes, which come from New Asgard pizzeria called “Stormbakers” and has a slice of pizza on a stick – a nod to Thor’s Stormbreaker weapon.

You can tell that the graphic designer had an incredibly fun time with this design – and as a bonus, you get 3 of these stickers!

And yes, why use a pizza cutter when you can use Stormbreaker. Not only does it cut Titan heads off, it also cuts pizza neatly!

On the walls are hooks, rakes, and a portrait of the Thor Ragnarok crew – Thor in his gladiator helmet, Korg, fully-grown Miek and Valkyrie.

Another nice nod on the fireplace is the sailboat which was actually present on the fireplace in the scene.

The boys mostly hang on the sand green couch and play videogames.

In the movie, Korg is playing Fortnite, which is reflected here on the widescreen TV – we have a minifigure version of Fortnite, and if you look on the chat section in the left, a reference to Noobmaster69 is printed on one of the chat bubbles.

This sequence of course led to one of the most memorable quotes in all MCU history:

“Thor, he’s back. That kid on the TV just called me a dickhead again.”
“Noobmaster.”
“Yeah, Noobmaster69.”
“Noobmaster, hey, it’s Thor again. You know, the God of Thunder? Listen, buddy, if you don’t log off this game immediately, I am gonna fly over to your house, come down to that basement you’re hiding in, rip off your arms and shove them up your butt! Oh, that’s right, yes, go cry to your father, you little weasel!”
“Thank you, Thor.”
“Let me know if he bothers you again, okay?”
“Thank you very much, I will.”

There’s a funny Easter Egg hidden under the couch – lift it up and you can see a cookie buried beneath it. There’s also a cookie near the TV.

I don’t know who the designer is but I have a sneaky suspicion that this might be the work of Chris McVeigh who also worked on the Modular Police Station and last year’s Elf Clubhouse sets, both of which had cookies playing a key role in the storytelling.

One of the most surprising things about the build was the inclusion of this wooden beer keg. This epitomises how far LEGO has come as a company purely by the fact that they’ve snuck in a keg of beer into a set with a 7+ age recommendation.

I thought it was just some normal barrel, and there would be a kid-friendly explanation but nope, the instructions explicitly call for trans-yellow studs to be placed inside the keg. Maybe it’s a keg of lemonade…?

Just incredible, and this was my favourite surprise of the entire model.

Here’s the Bro Thor’s house looks from the outside – the walls are a little patchworky network of multi-coloured bricks, and there’s also a door that opens as well for Korg to greet Raccoon and the Hulk as they pay a visit to find Thor.

And lastly, there’s also a Welcome to New Asgard sign, which has a polite request to “please drive slowly”.

Beneath the sign is a sentence in Norwegian “velkommen til Tønsberg ” which means “Welcome to Tønsberg“, a small village located in Norway which housed the Tesseract for decades, and is the location of New Asgard – a new settlement of Asgardians following the destruction of their planet.

What I liked:

Love these diorama builds
Price is fairly accessible, and you get exclusive characters
Bro Thor and Korg are just great minifigures,
Lots of funny references
Actually contains a keg of beer
I still can’t believe this is an actual set

What I didn’t like:

Lots of stickers, so hopefully they hold up
Miek looks a little weird, and I wish we had an actual new mould

Final Thoughts:

This is probably one of my favourite small sets in 2021, and will truly delight and satisfy LEGO Marvel Super Heroes fans. It’s incredulous that LEGO actually turned the New Asgard scene into the set, AND gave us a Bro Thor minifigure with his belly and all.

Bro Thor’s New Asgard just screams fun, and you can immediately tell that the LEGO and Graphic Designers had plenty of fun with the set, with all the fun little Easter Eggs and references thrown into the mix.

As a Marvel set, it often comes down to new characters and minifigures, and both Korg and Bro Thor do not disappoint. I would’ve liked a slightly more accurate Miek (a modified baby would be hilarious), but it was probably too cost-prohibitive to justify an all-new element or mould.

This is going to be one of the most-popular and best-selling Marvel sets of 2021 as it strikes the perfect balance between accessibility due to its size and price, and also the inclusion of fan favourite characters like Korg.

I love the concept of these small self-contained diorama sets, and would love to see LEGO do more of these as they look great on display while not compromising on playability with all the accessories.

I have to pinch myself that this is not just an actual set, but LEGO also manage to sneak in a keg of beer.

Highly recommend 76200 Bro Thor’s New Asgard if you’re a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and want a quick and easy set that won’t break the bank. It will not disappoint.

Build [3] – The build was quite simple and quick – building the living room had its interesting moments
Real Value [4] – Sets at this price point are rare, and even rarer for it to feel like LEGO didn’t cut corners
Innovation [2] – Not too many interesting techniques here, but the stickers are pretty neat
Coolness [5] – Bro Thor with his bulging belly, Korg in Hawaiian shirt, and a Noobmaster69 reference. This is LEGO Marvel fan-service at its peak
Keepability [5] – This will be a great set to hold, because of the novelty of the characters and overall concept. I cannot see Bro Thor showing up in any other set
