Review: LEGO 76260 Black Widow & Captain America Motorcycles

We’re kicking off the LEGO Summer 2023 review season with a small Marvel set – 76260 Black Widow & Captain America Motorcycles which features Black Widow and Captain America riding some brick-built bikes.

At US$14.99, these are the smallest and cheapest LEGO Marvel sets in the small June 2023 wave, and these are the only ones with minifigures, so ahead of their release on 1 June 2023, here’s a quick review!

Who is this set for? LEGO Marvel fans who want a new Black Widow minifigure variant, and enjoy brick-building bikes.

Special thanks to LEGO for sending this set over for this review.

For a small LEGO Marvel set, the drawcard as usual is with the minifigures, and we get Black Widow and Captain America – a decent but unremarkable selection for this pricepoint.

Black Widow features a brand new suit and leg and torso printing, with this version being exclusive to this set, and is based loosely on her Age of Ultron suit. The faint electric blue lines aren’t as prominent as her other suits, but I like this more muted colour scheme, although it would’ve been really nice if LEGO gave us a bit more pops of red, or even arm printing.

Captain America isn’t new, and it’s the same minifigure as the one previously in the small 76189 Captain America and Hydra Face-Off set, and he also comes with a wig for Steve Rogers mode.

Here’s a look at the new Black Widow minifigure, flanked by the first one, and a recent one to show just how different the suit is.

I do think there’s a bit too much emphasis on grey, and I really would’ve like some arm printing for her Black Widow’s Bite electroshock wrist weapons.

The set features two brick-built motorcycles, and feels very much like a Marvel/Avengers version of 76179 Batman & Selina Kyle Motorcycle Pursuit which also featured 2 brick-built motorcycles.

The build was fairly simple, and I think it’s still quite novel to have these brick-built motorcycles instead of the regular minifigure-scale bikes we used to get in Avengers sets.

The scale is very off, however as the bikes are way too big for the minifigure, but the trade-off is that they’re slightly more playable, can be driven around easily, or off ramps, and feature weaponry like stud shooters.

Here’s a look at Black Widow’s bike, which has pops of red, and clips at the back to hold her batons. The minifigure can stand or sit as there’s a 2×2 area for you to affix the minifigure to it.

The motorcycle handles are a little annoying as they’re made of these paddle-type stud with horizontal bar elements, and you need a really specific angle and for the minifigure to stand to grasp it like you would a motorcycle’s throttle.

It’s almost easier for you to just pose the minifigure standing up, or seated down with their arms just grazing the handles instead of full accuracy.

Here’s Captain America’s motorcycle, which has a blue and grey colour scheme. Up the front is a handy little clip for you to affix his vibranium shield to the front.

It has a nice profile from the side, although the front is a little flat and relies on the shield for proper shaping.

Another nice surprise was this new printed pill tile, with a digital speedometer. I fully expect to see these being used in plenty of LEGO vehicles moving forward. There are no stickers, so this is the only piece with decoration printed on it.

What I liked:

  • New and exclusive (for now) Black Widow minifigure
  • Bikes are fun to build
  • Motorcycles are playable
  • No stickers

What I didn’t like:

  • Lack of arm printing on Black Widow
  • Feels a little pricey for a plain offering

Final Thoughts

76260 Black Widow & Captain America Motorcycles is a perfectly passable small Marvel set, aimed at younger kids and parents looking for the cheapest possible LEGO set featuring two very recognisable Avengers.

The motorcycles are well-built, and will keep younger builders engrossed for a short bit and are sturdy enough to endure some rough-ish play without falling apart.

The minifigures are the most interesting feature, with the new Black Widow minifigure a tantalising pickup for Marvel collectors and completionists, however the set’s relatively high pricetag doesn’t scream
“buy me” at once, and you can probably wait for a sale on these.

This set make for a decent gift at the US$14.99 mark, and work well as stocking stuffers, but at this price range, it’s a fairly unremarkable set, especially with the lack of arm printing on Black Widow, and the recycled Captain America minifigure.

Unfortunately the set’s high pricetag really holds this back, as this really feels like a US$9.99 set, but this is now the status quo when it comes to LEGO set pricing thanks to the inflationary environment we all find ourselves living in.

Build [3] – The motorcycles were an enjoyable build
Real Value [2] – The recycled Captain America minifigure, and lack of arm printing combined with the high price makes this poor value at full price.
Innovation [3] – These brick-built motorcycles are much more fun and a nice novelty compared to regular minifigure bikes
Coolness [2] – Great if you’re a Black Widow fan, but will hopefully hold the attention of kids
Keepability [2] – The bikes are quite big, and not made for display, however the minifigures can easily find a home in your Marvel collection, especially if this is an exclusive Black Widow

Rating and score: 2/5 ★★✰✰✰
