I can’t believe it’s actually happening. LEGO have finally done it – and have struck up a partnership with Nintendo for an upcoming Super Mario theme!
The theme was teased on LEGO’s Twitter account and is not some early April Fool’s joke.

For many LEGO fans, Nintendo has always been THE unicorn license, and I’m absolutely delighted that this is finally happening.
The Mario minifigure (?) in the tease looks a little strange and bizzare, and I really hope we just get a proper minifigure but this just opens up a world of possibilities.
Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong, maybe even Pokemon once they wrest the license from Mega Bloks? (they did it with Minions!).
LEGO should’ve just announced that they finally acquired a license to print money as it would’ve been the same thing.
I absolutely cannot wait to see what the theme and an actual working relationship with Nintendo will bring.
I wrote in 2017 that “It still confounds me that LEGO has not bothered to court Nintendo as a license, and I fear that they may have missed the boat on that one.”
It took a while, but man, I can’t believe this is finally happening.

Now that it’s official, let me know in the comments what your dream Nintendo sets are, and let’s start rabidly speculating!
that is awesome! i have been waiting for this for soooooooooo long!
I’ve been waiting for this all my life.
I’m clearing a space on my Lego shelf for ALL the carts from Mario Carts.
Can’t wait to build a LEGO blue shell
I was never a Nintendo user, PlayStation all the way, so didn’t play Mario ever.
So this does not excite me one bit.
Oh interesting! Hey, you never know – this may open doors for Sony to start working with LEGO.
Crikeys, that’s a weird tweet. Anyway, I’ve cashed in my emergency Lego fund, I’m ready to buy literally anything Nintendo related. But not Overwatch, I draw the line there. ?
My emergency LEGO fun needs an emergency fund of its own
