New POTC Pirate Ship 71042 The Silent Mary Now On Sale For LEGO VIPs

March 17, 2017 By Jay 40 Comments

It’s finally time! The brand new Ghost Pirate ship from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales – 71042 The Silent Mary is now available to purchase for LEGO VIP Members! The general release date for 71042 The Silent Mary is on 1 April 2017.

Here are the direct links to buy The Silent Mary for your specific regions.

  • LEGO 71042 The Silent Mary – $199.99 [US]
  • LEGO 71042 The Silent Mary – £179.99 [GB]
  • LEGO 71042 The Silent Mary – $349.99 [AUS]

Of course if you live in a country with LEGO Brand Retail Stores, you should be able to saunter in and pick one up now.

If you’re in Australia or Great Britain, the set is now available for purchase. Americans will need a few more hours for them to tick over to the 17th of March, which is the official release date for LEGO VIP members.

For Aussies that want to wait to get a discount on this set, you can of course wait till May when this set will become available at most toy retailers in the country, where there’s a decent chance of snagging it for 20% off the retail price.

In addition to The Silent Mary, the two new Brickheadz Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Armando Salazar are also available for purchase.

The Ghost Ship, captained by the nefarious ghost pirate Salazar (played by Javier Bardem) has received a mixed reception from LEGO fans, with some loving the skeletal ghost ship look, and the others decrying the fact that it’s not a “real” pirate ship.

I happen to fall in the former camp, and was more than excited to purchase this set in anticipation for a full-blown review. I do have my reservations about this set, but I’m always up to the task of a challenging review.

LEGO have released a wealth of new hi-res photos of 71042 The Silent Mary, which includes the box art as well as a closer look at the awesome new LEGO Zombie Sharks included in the set which I’m super excited about.

You can check out the new photos below.

So will you be picking The Silent Mary up or are you in a wait-and-see mode? Let me know if you’re buying this set in the comments!

Man, I have the Lego Black Pearl and the Lego Queen Annes Revenge! I jokingly told my wife this set would be around 129.99. 199.99 puts it just a slight bit out of reach for me!!!!

Awfully tempting to pull the trigger on a set that will be worth some money in the very near future!!! Yo-Ho yo-ho a pirates life for me…..

Maybe try looking out for discounts on this set? Wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon start slashing the price once excitement for the movie has cooled.

I was not so impressed with this set from the pictures but saw it today built at the Lego store. In person its excellent! Couldnt afford it so bought Jack Sparrow Brickheadz instead. Built him tonight. Super fast and easy build but really cute. I look forward to your review.

Hey Jay, great article, I really hope this becomes available at Big W, but my guess is we will have to wait a while as it’s probably gonna be treated like a UCS set and that will make it difficult to get in stores. Do you have any information that leads you to believe this set will be treated like a normal straight to shelves release in the beginning of April, or will it basically be treated like an exclusive?

    Thanks!

Thanks Lachlan! Apparently this is going to be a general release set, so most places SHOULD get it. This is what I’ve heard from a range of sources, which include independent LEGO retailers.

They’re going to be SO pricey. At least LEGO was nice enough to include two in the set, so you could probably sell one off to supplement the cost of the Ship!

Interesting to see the above responses as I do collect ships and also have the Black Pearl and Queen Anne’s Revenge – both of which are stunning ships. This however, not so much for me. I am looking forward to some good reviews on this one, as I am hoping they will change my mind !

Yeah, I can see why fans of traditional pirate ships might be a little apprehensive about this one. When mine finally arrives and I get around building/reviewing it, I’ll be sure to place it alongside the Black Pearl for comparison!

Have 0 interest in POTC, not seen a single movie or purchased any previous LEGO sets so would be a serious leap to purchase this. I do love those zombie sharks though so need to find a way of getting hold of them without weighing out 350 clams for a set I must admit I don’t really like!

Yeah, those zombie sharks are super sweet. You should watch the movies! They’re really fun, well-made adventure movies. I’m sure these sharks will start showing up on Bricklink soon enough. Hopefully they won’t be too pricey!

You know as much as I do, unfortunately! UCS sets are usually kept very tightly under wraps. I’m personally quite apprehensive that we’re going to get a UCS Millennium Falcon this year. The community is starting to hype themselves to crazy levels… which I think is pretty dangerous since nothing has really been set in stone yet.

I’m not really interested in the ship, but being a Minifigure collector, I might go on eBay and buy the minifigures than buy the entire set. It’s a good-looking ship, but I’m not really interested in ships.

Eh. I’m fairly hardcore on Star Wars – that’s all I collect, and it has to be from the three original movies, not the crap that came later (Empire is episode 2 as far as I’m concerned…). And I’m not all that eager for the Snowspeeder because it’s not minifig scale. I like that Slave I at least looks good with Boba Fett in the cockpit, and has the Bespin guards (plural after an Advent Calendar) taking Han up into the ship. If they can’t do a minifig-scale snowspeeder, that’s fine – just don’t expect me to shell out a few hundred dollars for what they can do. It looks nice; it just doesn’t excite me.

Fair enough, but correct me if I’m wrong, it’s actually quite rare for UCS sets to be minifig-scale! Do you already have the original Snowspeeder?

I’d have thought this would check most of your boxes – OT vehicle, well designed display piece.

I think both helmets are excellent additions to the LEGO Star Wars Helmet Collection. Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 Clone Trooper helmets translate incredibly well, and there are some masterful sculpting techniques and great use of negative space to get the look just right.

I have to say that I much prefer Commander Cody out of the two, because of the 212th's orange markings, and cool features like the visor and fin. Captain Rex, while having some cutting-edge building techniques have some really poorly colour-match stickers which distract from the otherwise great build.

Will you be planning on picking any of these up?

Special thanks to @lego for sending these early review sets over!
