Review: LEGO 76914 Ferrari 812 Competizione

Ferrari and LEGO have always been close, with over 50 sets designed in partnership with the Prancing Horse throughout LEGO’s history.
76914 Ferrari 812 Competizione is the latest addition to that lineup, joining a trio of March 2023 Speed Champions sets at the US$25 price bracket. Does it deserve a slot in your collection? Let’s check it out!

76914 Ferrari 812 Competizione Unboxing
The front of the box shows the 812 speeding along a winding road, with the Prancing Horse logo at the top right corner.
As is standard for Speed Champions sets, the back of the box has alternate angles of the model and a reference photo of the real car.
Inside the box you’ll find two numbered bags, an instruction manual, a sticker sheet, and the chassis element.
The sticker sheet is reasonable for a Speed Champions set – most of them are used for the defining yellow stripe that runs through the centre of the model – but some of them are small and a little tricky to apply.
76194 Ferrari 812 Competizione Minifigures
There’s one minifigure in the set, sporting a new printed shirt with the Ferrari logo! His head and hair combination seem quite familiar… is that JANGBRiCKS?
The figure has a bit more printing on the back of the torso, and comes with a crash helmet and a wrench.
Ferrari 812 Competizione Comparison
Here’s the actual Ferrari 812 Competizione for comparison – despite the different color scheme, this car has a yellow stripe down the middle just like the LEGO model.
Only 999 of these cars were made and sold, and the real one will cost you a cool US$672,000 MSRP.
Here’s how the car looks from the back – the main differences that set apart the Competizione are the lack of a rear window and a more defined spoiler, which are reflected on the LEGO model.
76914 Ferrari 812 Competizione Completed Model
Here’s the completed LEGO model of the Ferrari 812 Competizione, complete with a red and yellow color scheme that is iconic for the Italian car manufacturer.
As the 812 is a front mid-engine grand tourer, the designers have made the front section of the car suitably long, but clever build techniques and a couple of new pieces ensure that the overall shaping still looks smooth.
The Speed Champions designer has had plenty of experience designing supercars at this scale, and it really shows on this model.
Various elements are attached at different angles to ensure a detailed yet cohesive final look.
The front of the model looks fantastic, and nails the look of the Competizione. The printed headlights look excellent, while stickers are used on the bonnet and front grille with the Prancing Horse insignia.
There’s also a sticker on the 2×4 rounded tile at the bottom, which adds a bit more black colouring that is subtle but necessary.
The top of the bonnet looks excellent, using a combination of triangular tiles and stickers to create a visually interesting design. Unfortunately the yellow stripe relies on three separate stickers, but the way it goes along with the angular horizontal black stripe adds a lot to the final appearance.
Here’s the side angle of the car, where you can see the subtle forward rake. I like the bodywork between the two wheels, where angled plates and slopes are used to recreate the lines on the real car.
The back of the car has some more impressive design work, including several pieces mounted at a 45-degree angle to create the crazy angles of the spoiler. There are lots of decorated elements here – printed 1×1 round rear lights, the stickered Ferrari logo, and 1×1 bricks with both prints and stickers for some additional vents.
One fun addition is the use of the relatively new stud shooter element to recreate the squarish exhaust pipes of the 812! They are attached at the bottom of the car and enhance the look of the final model while serving as a great example of nice part usage.
There is one issue with this rear section, and it is the spoiler itself. While the angles to achieve the design of the spoiler at the bottom is very impressive, the bodywork around it is too flat – the spoiler should actually wrap around the edges. It’s mostly due to the limitations of the LEGO system, but it does make this section inaccurate.
The top view of the model looks good, and you can see the yellow stripe which spans 6 stickers and 1 printed piece.
Unfortunately the colour matching of the print on the windscreen is a bit lacking – the red and yellow colours lack the vibrancy when compared to the stickers and bricks.
Just like the real Competizione, this model does not have a rear glass – instead, there is a sleek curved portion behind the windscreen that has some nice stickered decoration.
A couple of small black stickers are also used to simulate a bit more of the front windscreen glass.
Despite the inaccuracy with the spoiler, the car looks great from the back, with lots of striking angles that give it a menacing look, fitting for a powerful sports car.
The cockpit element has been in use for some time, and can be detached from the model quite easily to access the driver’s compartment.
The interior of the car looks fantastic, even including 1×1 printed headrests with the Ferrari logo in yellow!
The front of the interior has all the essentials like a steering wheel, central controls, and air conditioning vents.
These details compare quite favourably with the real car, and the central sticker even seems to include the cupholder!
Unfortunately, just like the Pagani Utopia, there is a sticker instruction mistake in the 812 Competizione, as the orientation in the instructions is upside down. Something that you might want to watch out for when assembling your set..
Also, headroom is a squeeze in such a low-profile car, and the windscreen doesn’t fully close with a minifigure inside, although the gap is very small.
What I liked:
- Overall shaping and aesthetics is fantastic
- Looks very accurate for a LEGO model
- Clever build techniques and part usage
What I didn’t like:
- Relatively high number of stickers for the price point
- Inaccurate spoiler design
- Windscreen doesn’t fully close (just barely)
Final Thoughts:
On the whole, 76914 Ferrari 812 Competizione is my favourite of the three March 2023 US$25 Speed Champions sets. The colour scheme and overall aesthetic looks fantastic, and there are plenty of clever build techniques that impress throughout the building process. The final model feels more sizeable substantial than the Pagani Utopia; and despite being shorter in length, it has more vertical height and general appeal than the76916 Porsche 963 LMDh.
While all three of these sets are impressive and worthy additions to any LEGO collection, if you had to pick just one, I would go with 76914 Ferrari 812 Competizione!
Build [4] – Aesthetics and build techniques go hand in hand to create a great final product.
Minifigures [3] – Nothing impressive here but what is included is adequate. Perhaps it wouldn’t be a bad idea to start including two minifigures in these sets?
Real Value [4] – This car feels pretty substantial and the build process makes it worth the price of entry.
Innovation [4] – The building techniques used are impressive, attaching pieces at unusual angles or reusing existing parts in clever ways.
Keepability [3] – A strong addition to the Speed Champions theme and a worthy addition to LEGO’s Ferrari collection.
