Here’s the new LEGO 21302 Big Bang Theory set!

LEGO Ideas 21302 The Big Bang Theory Set

It’s finally here! The LEGO Ideas Blog have finally unveiled the hotly anticipated Big Bang Theory set featuring all 7 main characters from the popular geek sitcom. The release date for the 10th LEGO Ideas set will be 1 August 2015 and will retail in the US for $59.99, making this the most expensive LEGO Ideas yet. No news on Australian pricing but my best guess is that it’ll cost us somewhere around the $90 price range.

Designed by Ellen Kooijman and Glenbricker who also created the LEGO Research Institute, the set will weigh in at 479 pieces. From the images it looks like a decent mix of stickered and printed parts with plenty of nods to the TV sitcom such as the Chinese takeaway boxes.

LEGO Big Bang Theory Characters Minifigures

The minifigures are definitely the biggest draw of the set. LEGO unveiled the 5 core characters Leonard, Sheldon, Penny, Howard and Raj as minifigures yesterday. Today’s reveal gives us a better look at Bernadette and Amy Farrah Fowler in the living room. The minifigures look great and all have amazingly designed torsos. Sheldon’s The Flash t-shirt has to be my favourite followed Amy’s knitted jumper.

It’s not been confirmed but I believe that the minifigures will have alternate faces – given the hints in the LEGO Ideas blog post about bringing Bernadette’s scary side to life.

LEGO Ideas 21302 The Big Bang Theory Box

The Big Bang Theory gets a lot of hate on the internet simply because the internet loves to hate on things that are popular. Do I like The Big Bang Theory? Not really, but I did watch the first 3 or 4 seasons religiously till I eventually lost interest in it.

Big Bang Theory Living Room

I think the LEGO Ideas team have done a pretty great job capturing the look and feel of the living room from the show. The image above is how it looks like on TV.

Will I pick this set up? Hell yeah, it looks amazing and I’m a huge huge fan of Ellen Kooijman’s work. It’s only a small slice of the living room, but I can see a lot of potential to build on this set and recreate the entire BBT house.

Can’t wait to review this! Let me know your thoughts on this set in the comments and if you’re planning to pick one up on 1 August!
