LEGO Seinfeld, Home Alone and Typewriter are your next LEGO Ideas sets!
Earlier today, the LEGO Ideas team dropped their Third 2019 Review Results with a massive announcement that a whopping three sets got the green light and will be turned into LEGO sets in the not too distant future.
Coming to you soon will be a LEGO Typewriter, McCallister’s House and Seinfeld 30th Anniversary set – three surprising yet very welcome sets that continue to signal that LEGO is not shy about mining the nostalgia mines harder in its bid to capture more Adult LEGO fans.
Here’s my thoughts on the three sets
Out of the three set, I’m actually most excited about the LEGO Typewriter designed by Steve Guinness.
The submission is just stunning, and with LEGO’s guidance, I think they’re on to a remarkable display model that will suit any study or home office.
I really like the novelty of life-sized LEGO sculptures of everyday objects, and anyone who’s old enough would remember the satisfying chatter of typewriter keys before we had these newfangled computers.
Adwind’s Home Alone set which pays homage to the McCalister House just makes me feel Christmasy, so it’ll be interesting if LEGO can release this in time for the holidays. Probably not but a man can wish.
Home Alone is one of the best Christmas movies and a nostalgia staple, so I can see why LEGO would be keen to get LEGO millennials excited about reconnecting with the Kevin McCallister’s booby-trapped house.
This set feels like a modular-esque building, and I hope that it’ll be easy to fit right into the LEGO Winter Village theme.
The biggest surprise and one that will make the most media waves is undoubtedly Brent Waller’s LEGO Seinfeld set.
Seinfeld is a massive pop culture phenomenon, and has a massive fan-base, especially in my generation that grew up with Jerry, Kramer and Costanza, whose characters still influence so much on TV.
Unfortunately, I wouldn’t call myself a massive Seinfeld fan (but I do appreciate George’s impeccable fashion sense) so this isn’t a massive drawcard for me.
In retrospect, with the undeniable success of the LEGO Friends set, it was probably a no-brainer for LEGO to see this one across the line, and I can see this being an absolute smash hit, especially with casual LEGO but hardcore Seinfeld fans.
The next review result is going to be a lot of fun, with 26 projects cracking the 10k mark. It’s anyone’s guess what will go through, but my money is on Futurama, Knight Rider and The Great Fishing Boat.
So what do you think of the upcoming three LEGO Ideas sets? Let me know in the comments which ones you’re most excited about!
