LEGO Seinfeld, Home Alone and Typewriter are your next LEGO Ideas sets!

Earlier today, the LEGO Ideas team dropped their Third 2019 Review Results with a massive announcement that a whopping three sets got the green light and will be turned into LEGO sets in the not too distant future.

Coming to you soon will be a LEGO Typewriter, McCallister’s House and Seinfeld 30th Anniversary set – three surprising yet very welcome sets that continue to signal that LEGO is not shy about mining the nostalgia mines harder in its bid to capture more Adult LEGO fans.

Here’s my thoughts on the three sets

Out of the three set, I’m actually most excited about the LEGO Typewriter designed by Steve Guinness.

The submission is just stunning, and with LEGO’s guidance, I think they’re on to a remarkable display model that will suit any study or home office.

I really like the novelty of life-sized LEGO sculptures of everyday objects, and anyone who’s old enough would remember the satisfying chatter of typewriter keys before we had these newfangled computers.

Adwind’s Home Alone set which pays homage to the McCalister House just makes me feel Christmasy, so it’ll be interesting if LEGO can release this in time for the holidays. Probably not but a man can wish.

Home Alone is one of the best Christmas movies and a nostalgia staple, so I can see why LEGO would be keen to get LEGO millennials excited about reconnecting with the Kevin McCallister’s booby-trapped house.

This set feels like a modular-esque building, and I hope that it’ll be easy to fit right into the LEGO Winter Village theme.

The biggest surprise and one that will make the most media waves is undoubtedly Brent Waller’s LEGO Seinfeld set.

Seinfeld is a massive pop culture phenomenon, and has a massive fan-base, especially in my generation that grew up with Jerry, Kramer and Costanza, whose characters still influence so much on TV.

Unfortunately, I wouldn’t call myself a massive Seinfeld fan (but I do appreciate George’s impeccable fashion sense) so this isn’t a massive drawcard for me.

In retrospect, with the undeniable success of the LEGO Friends set, it was probably a no-brainer for LEGO to see this one across the line, and I can see this being an absolute smash hit, especially with casual LEGO but hardcore Seinfeld fans.

The next review result is going to be a lot of fun, with 26 projects cracking the 10k mark. It’s anyone’s guess what will go through, but my money is on Futurama, Knight Rider and The Great Fishing Boat.

So what do you think of the upcoming three LEGO Ideas sets? Let me know in the comments which ones you’re most excited about!

  1. Lynette Pulman says:

Typewriter yes please when can we buy in Australia

  2. Richard Hong says:

it sounds good. I really want to buy lego typewriter. Where can I found it?

  3. To bad Futurama didn’t make it!

  4. Andy says:

Hmm, none of those sets really excite me. The Home Alone set looks nice, but it’s not one I’d buy.

The next review sets will be tough though! I love the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and both the Falcon and Gemini sets would complement my Lunar Lander and Saturn V.

  5. Fiona says:

I’m also most excited by the typewriter. It is beautiful and very clever.

I’m a huge Seinfeld fan so I’m very happy with this set, though I’m not sure Jerry minifig is very convincing, The others are pretty good. Yes, the fifth is Newman!

  6. Mark P says:

Ugh, more cash grabs. The typewriter is fine, I voted for it, but it’s a bit weak compared to, say, the aquarium or the chalet.
Home Alone is an interesting idea, but should’ve stayed A MOC. Hopefully they keep a lot of the playability.
But Seinfeld?!? C’mon! Is that what we’re doing now? Instead of people coming up with ideas, they’re just building sets from random old allowed?!? Great. I can’t wait to get Days of our Lives. Or Grey’s Anatomy. That’s a must have for any true Lego fan. ??? I’m so sick of people jumping on this train and making sets from shows or movies, then spamming Facebook fan groups to get their numbers up. Maybe Lego should spin off into Lego Movie Sets, and leave Ideas alone.
Okay, end rant. I’ll just be sitting here waiting for my Lego piano.

Lego Ideas used to be a theme that allowed LEGO to take pretty cool risks, but yeah, you’re right that it’s mostly used as a gateway for random licenses.

I’d love a Grey’s Anatomy set, at least it’d be a proper Hospital set.

To be honest, looking at all the sets that pass 10k votes are mostly based on existing properties. I mean, it did start with Minecraft… But the sets that came after were pretty neat.

      • Mark P says:

Yeah, it’s not Lego Ideas anymore. It’s Lego Tie Ins. They’ll keep doing it, because they make a mint off licensed sets, but it really doesn’t appeal to me at all. So I’ll just sit here and whinge.
I do wonder, when I inevitably open up a boutique Lego shop, will I sell these shameless kits? They’ll sell well (for a short amount of time). Or will I stand my ground and only sell the kits I’d like to play with? ?

  7. Ian Hazlehurst says:

I cant comment on the 3 that got through, but why not the Planet Express Delivery Ship, that looks fun to build & play with.

  8. Carolynn says:

Oooo! The typewriter made it! That one is just so…. neat? Cool? I can’t think of a good word, but I love it and glad to see it made it. 🙂

  9. Tony says:

Typewriter for me too. I really hope chitty chitty bang bang gets the nod from the next wave.

  10. Mary Ferris says:

    Is the 5th figure Newman?

  11. Jason says:

I can’t get excited about any of these three. I’m holding out hope that the Planet Express Ship didn’t pass this round because they plan on making the Futurama set from the next wave…

    A man can dream…..

    • Jay says:

      You and me both, buddy.

With Disney owning Fox, i think there’s honestly a great chance, especially if they tie it in with an announcement that it’ll start streaming on Disney+
