Introducing Bygglek – the LEGO x Ikea collaboration!

After months of teasing and speculation, LEGO and Ikea are officially lifting the lid of their upcoming collaboration – dubbed Bygglek.

The two brands have joined forces to create a playful storage solution called BYGGLEK. Consisting of a series of storage boxes with LEGO studs and a special LEGO brick set, the new BYGGLEK collection aims to encourage play and infuse more fun into storage around the home.
The release date for the BYGGLEK collection is 1 October 2020 for Europe (with the exception of Russia) and North America, before a wider global roll-out. The collection will be available directly from Ikea.
The concept is an interesting one, that fuses the creative play experience of LEGO with Ikea’s home furniture expertise.
The result is an interactive storage solution – a container that you can use to both store and build upon.
The BYGGLEK range consists of 4 different products – one set of 3 small boxes, and two sets of bigger boxes and one set of LEGO bricks to kick-start the playful experience. BYGGLEK can be used with any existing and future LEGO elements, as the studs used on the lid and front are part of the LEGO system in play.
The LEGO System in play enables children to build and rebuild their own stories and through this process develop essential 21st century skills – BYGGLEK hopes to extend the LEGO play experience in providing fun creative storage solutions that are just as playable as they are functional.
This might seem a little basic, and might underwhelm people who were expecting an entire range of home furniture, but depending on the quality and price, I do think that parents and adult LEGO fans would find value in the BYGGLEK collection.
Organisation and storage are really important when it comes to LEGO, and I like the minimalist/Scandi look of these containers.
For parents with younger kids, having LEGO strewn all over the house is a perennial issue, and the hope is that this will serve as a useful tool to bridge play time and packing up time.
I’ll be getting these in for photos and reviews, so I’m really looking forward to seeing how these feel in hand, especially how my 3 year old daughter interacts with them!
