LEGO Reveals The Simpsons Collectable Minifigures
Late last night, LEGO finally pulled back the curtain on the highly anticipated Simpsons Collectable Minifigures by sharing the very first official photos on their Facebook page! The release date for the next Series (unofficially the 13th Series) of Collectible Minifigs is May 2014.
The Australian price for The Simpsons Minifigures is still unknown, although I expect them to cost $6, up from the usual $5. The Americans are getting a $1 price hike on their blind bags and I expect the prices to go up about a dollar here.
It’s fantastic that we can finally ogle The Simpsons minifigures and not have to speculate on what Simpsons characters will be included.
Here’s the full list:
- Homer Simpson
- Marge Simpson
- Bart Simpson
- Lisa Simpson
- Maggie Simpson
- Grampa Simpson aka Abraham Simpson
- Ned Flanders
- Millhouse
- Chief Wiggum
- Ralph Wiggum
- Itchy
- Scratchy
- Nelson Muntz
- Krusty the Clown
- Mr. Burns
- Apu Nahasapeemapetilon
First impressions are that this set is going to sell really really really well since The Simpsons are a HUGE pillar of pop culture as well as the elevated profile of LEGO after the incredibly successful box office performance of The LEGO Movie.
Second impressions are that for the most part, most of the characters included look pretty cool and that LEGO have done a commendable job turning everyone’s beloved animated yellow characters into minifigures.
I’m also digging the improvements to the main Simpsons Family minifigures as they don’t look stoned like the ones included in The Simpsons Family House.
Most of everyone’s favourite characters are present but of course it would’ve been impossible for LEGO to have included everyone in Springfield. Some of my favourites in this series include Ralph and Chief Wiggum, Apu, Mr Burns, Krusty and Milhouse.
There’s going to be a ton of debate with the characters that were not included, but hopefully if these things sell like wildfire, we may get a Series 2 somewhere down the line. I for one would’ve loved to see Comic Book Guy, Moe (LEGO probably felt uncomfortable including a bartender in a toy set), Carl & Lenny, Mrs Krabappel (RIP), Principle Skinner and Sideshow Bob among others. The takeaway is that LEGO can draw from a rich universe of characters, so I wouldn’t rule out a sequel to this Series.
The accessories included are a little hit and miss to me. Tons of tile pieces with meta references such as the Biclops Comic Book and Abe’s “Old Man Yells At Cloud” newspaper as well as neat little trinkets such as Blinky the 3-Eyed Fish and the Inanimate Carbon Rod that Mr Burns is holding. Kinda understandable since LEGO probably invested a lot into the moulds for the heads that we’re not seeing too many unique accessories.
That said, I’m quite disappointed with Chief Wiggum’s minifigure as he’s missing his iconic belly and looks nothing like his character on TV. But oh well, that’s a pretty minor complaint and I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy the minifigs when I get my hands on them to review.
May couldn’t come quickly enough and I for one can’t wait for them to go on sale here in Australia. I’d recommend picking up a complete set as soon as possible as these minifigures are sure to be extremely popular.
That’s all for now, enjoy the rest of the pictures below!
