LEGO Transformers 10302 Optimus Prime officially revealed! Autobots roll out!

This will go down as one of the toy industry’s most unexpected and shocking collaborations, but yes, LEGO have just unveiled their latest collaboration with fellow toymaker Hasbro, giving us the LEGO Optimus Prime.

10302 Optimus Price sees the legendary leader of the Autobots, reimagined in LEGO bricks and yes, it does transform.

Coming in at 1,508 pieces, the LEGO Optimus Prime set will be priced at US$169.99/AU$259.99 and has a release date of 1 June globally, where it will be exclusive to LEGO.com and LEGO Retail Stores.

Transformers (and LEGO fans) have so much to celebrate, with this immaculate take on a Generation 1 (G1) Optimus Prime, in all his red and blue glory. Thank GOD this isn’t a Michael Bayformer, and a proper LEGO G1 Optimus Prime.

The LEGO Optimus Prime effortlessly converts from a Semi-Trailer Truck, to a robot mode, but unfortunately does not come with the grey trailer.

The model (in robot mode) measures 35 cm (13.5″) high, and is about 18.5cm (7″) wide, making it a very sizable model.

LEGO Optimus looks exceptional on display, as he come with his very own UCS-style stickered plaque, as well as a range of very familiar accessories, with the Matrix of Leadership, an Energon Cube, Energon-axe and his Laser Blaster.

Oh, and yes, he also comes with a Jetpack!

The LEGO Optimus Prime is without a doubt, one of the most hyped and anticipated sets of 2022, and I think it exceeded expectations. When it was but a mere rumour,

The most remarkable thing here, is that LEGO and Hasbro/Takara Tomy are teaming up. I never would’ve imagined in a million years, that LEGO would work/license a competitor’s hero product in such a way, but this, I guess reflects the new hegemony within the toy industry, and just how much clout (and financial muscle) they must have to pull this off.

That said, I don’t think they are at odds with each other. KREO is no longer a thing, and Transformers does have a track record of collaborating with other brands for some really cool and unique toys.

There’s also I think a ton of cross-over between Transformers and LEGO fans, so I think this collaboration makes perfect sense. That, and it’s beyond words how cool it is to get a brick-built Optimus Prime at this scale and detail, without it breaking the bank.

Now that the proverbial line has been crossed… we HAVE to get the entire lineup of G1 Transformers, with Megatron, Starscream, Bumblebee, Soundwave next. Personally, I’d love a Prowl and Jazz, and of course, my man Starscream. Money is of no issue here, and I will take a second job if I have to, just to get an entire lineup of LEGO G1 Transformers.
