A LEGO Gachapon Machine and Western River Steamboat are your next LEGO Ideas sets!

LEGO Ideas has just announced the results for the Second 2023 Review and two sets have been greenlit for production!

Goosestore‘s Minifigure Prize Machine and CTDpower‘s Western River Steamboat have both been selected as the next LEGO Ideas sets!

I really like how unique these choices are – the Minifigure Prize Machine (aka Gashapon) is a fun dispenser of minifigures in plastic capsules. It’s based on design by Bandai and incredibly popular in Japan.

The Western River Steamboat on the other hand is a highly detailed steam-powered ship that should appeal to fans of boats. This looks to be an incredible display piece and I am looking forward to see what LEGO goes with this.

Interestingly, Disney Pixar’s Luxo Jr Lamp also impressed the LEGO Ideas judging panel, but more time is required to see whether this will be a future LEGO Ideas set. Highly likely more negotiations need to be done with Disney. I sure hope they don’t Snow White’s Cottage this model as it’ll be a really fun model especially for Pixar fans!

Do note that these are not finalised designs, and LEGO will unveil the models after they’ve been finished by the LEGO Ideas Design team!

And looking ahead, here’s a look at the next wave of ideas, with 42 submissions making up the third 2023 LEGO Review, with results coming in Summer 2024!

What do you think of the Minifigure Prize Machine and Western River Steamboat? Do any of these appeal to you?

  1. Thanks for all the kind words. I couldn’t be more excited to have this opportunity. Working with LEGO has been a dream come true. Can’t wait for the final model to be released!

Shocked and Disbelief are the two words that come to mind! I have lost all hope for the Ideas program because they typically pick ridiculous sets, but this time it’s an exception. I like both of these and will purchase them both despite the fact I had sworn off Ideas because I didn’t want to support a wonderful Lego program that has gone bad.

I’m happy about this review results. The steamboat is great, would work well for the begining of season 4 of Ninjago. I’ve always wanted the minifigure prize machine to get picked, its awesome.
I wish the mystery machine and working bicycle were also picked
Please Lego, approve the Pixar lamp! It’s an amazing project. I hope it doesn’t turn out like snow white’s cottage which needed more time to decide and then was made by Lego itself

  5. Scott White says:

I always hope a car will get through but sadly no. But the one I REALLY wanted this round was Jumanji.
The steamer is unique but an easy skip for me. Probably skip them both tbh.
The Pixar set is a definite yes though if it gets finalised

  6. Andrew says:

If it’s not Bluey, I’m not interested ;).

At least these are real “ideas”. Both could look rather good on display.

  7. Reader says:

I wish Marine Life 2 made it through. The choices this time look good and I’ll look forward to seeing the final designs.

For the next round, Mechanical Calendar could look good and be practical if the flipping of days and dates works. The Ikea store or a variety of it might make it through as Lego have a partnership with Ikea already.

  8. Trudy Seeley says:

I love the Western Steamboat. I hope they don’t change the color scheme. I love sets that look more realistic and not cartoonish.

  9. Michael says:

I just realized that there were FOUR Taylor Swift submissions that were the exact same idea.

  10. Glen Archibald says:

I’m still waiting for the Snack Shack to come off backorder on my Lego account … despite placing an order in the original release round.

Any idea why the backorder status??

  11. Timothy J Kemperle says:

Really disappointed that the Big Boy train didn’t make it. I really wanted this set more than any.
