To help you make the most of Black Friday, I’ve curated a list of my Top 15 LEGO sets I recommend getting to make the most out of LEGO’s Black Friday offers.

Amazon has also begun their Black Friday sales, and you can check out my roundup of all the best deals.

LEGO’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend runs from 25 to 28 November 2022, and you can find out more about the specific offers in your particular region.

If you plan on making any purchases, please consider using the affiliate links in this post as I may receive a small commission with each purchase.

Oh and I’ve also published my detailed review of 10307 Eiffel Tower if you wanted some weekend reading to distract you from online shopping!

LEGO Black Friday GWPs

The two main drawcards of Black Friday are 40563 Tribute to LEGO House and 40564 Winter Elves Scene.

40563 Tribute to LEGO House will be available from LEGO.com when you spend US$250 / AU$309 / €250 / £250 from 25-28 November if you wanted to wait for 10307 Eiffel Tower.

40564 Winter Elves Scene will be a free gift when you spend US$170 / AU$259 / £170 / €170 on LEGO.com from 25-28 November 2022.

You can check out my review of 40563 Tribute to the LEGO House to see more of it.

If you’re struggling to think of something to buy to make the most of Black Friday, or planning a purchase for a LEGO-obsessed significant other here’s my pick of the Top 15 sets you can consider buying!

21333 Vincent Van Gogh: The Starry Night

21333 Vincent Van Gogh: The Starry Night might just be my favourite mid-ranged LEGO set of 2022, and is just a beautiful and captivating build that really pushes the envelope of the LEGO Ideas theme.

With gorgeous colours, and a fun, varied build, as well as a Vincent Van Gogh minifigure (and mini Starry Night painting!), you’re getting the complete package with this set, so if you haven’t already, it’s a great time to pick up one of 2022’s best LEGO sets.

Check out my review of 21333 Vincent Van Gogh: The Starry Night to see what I think!

Pick A Brick Order

The second thing I recommend getting is just spare parts on LEGO’s online Pick a Brick (formerly Bricks & Pieces) service, which is a fantastic way to pad out your shopping cart to hit a GWP threshold.

Stock is quite erratic as things go in and out of stock, but LEGO Sheep, Lambs and Wool, Pigs and Piglets and some Viking Torsos are currently back in stock, so it’s great to check in to see if there’s anything good to order.

And yes, you qualify for GWPs and earn Double VIP points on Pick a Brick orders, although they’ll take a while to arrivw!

10305 Lion Knight’s Castle

If you want to spend big and instantly hit all the GWP thresholds at once, you can’t go wrong with 10305 Lion Knight’s Castle, a massive theme-defining LEGO Castle that’s hands down my favourite set of 2022.

It’s got Lion Knights, a brave Queen Lionne, Forestmen, Black Falcons, Majisto the Wizard, and a riveting build that ends up with an impressive LEGO Castle that’s chockful with sections to play with and secrets to uncover.

Check out my review of the epic 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle.

10300 Back to the Future Time Machine

If there’s one set that LEGO has had issues keeping in stock this year, it’s the 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine which released earlier in April but has been perennially sold out until stock levels have somewhat recovered.

The set is the ultimate tribute to Back to the Future, and a 3-in-1 as you can build versions of the Delorean from all 3 BTTF movies, and makes for a fantastic addition to the LEGO Icons vehicle lineup.

Check out my review of 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine to see what I thought of it.

76989 Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck

A set that doesn’t get enough attention in 2022 is 76989 Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck, which kicked off LEGO’s official Gaming theme. It’s a very cool sci-fi heavy build, and even if you aren’t familiar with the award-winning Playstation game, it’s incredibly easy to appreciate and contains one of LEGO’s best minifigures of 2022.

Check out my review of 76989 Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck for my full thoughts

21335 Motorized Lighthouse

One of LEGO’s best-designed and most aesthetically pleasing set of 2022 is 21335 Motorised Lighthouse, a fantastic LEGO Ideas set that introduces motorised functions to this beacon of light.

While the price of the Lighthouse has been a sore point for fans, with Double VIP and 2 GWPs, it makes for a much more palatable purchase, so if you’ve been on the fence on this set, it’s a great time to pick it up.

10308 Holiday Main Street

Christmas is coming up (in case you needed a reminder), and the 2022 Winter Village entrant, 10308 Holiday Main Street is a great little set to beef up your cart to qualify for the GWPs.

It’s value packed and one of the best-priced LEGO sets on the market, at only US$99.99, and features a delightful duo of Winter Village Main Street buildings, as well as a thoroughly festive Winter Village Tram that you can motorise.

Read my review of 10308 Holiday Main Street to see how well it fits into LEGO’s Winter Village theme.

71411 The Mighty Bowser

71411 The Mighty Bowser might be discounted on other retailers like Amazon Australia (and other retailers), but it’s still one of the best LEGO Super Mario sets released, and the inclusion of Double VIP and GWPs make it a compelling purchase buying from LEGO direct.

The King of the Koopas come to life at a massive (but not oversized) scale, and features articulated arms and head that you can control like a puppet, making for an fun play set that also oozes plenty of display presence thanks to its imposing size.

Check out my review of 71411 The Mighty Bowser

10497 Galaxy Explorer

If there’s one LEGO set in 2022 to double up on, make it 10497 Galaxy Explorer, LEGO’s 90th Anniversary tribute to the beloved Classic Space theme.

LEGO has taken one of the most iconic Space sets ever and infused it with cutting edge building techniques to truly propel this awe-inspiring Spaceship into 2022.

Check out my review of 10497 Galaxy Explorer and also the Alternate Build review to learn how you can build the B and C models.

21336 The Office

For fans of TV sitcom The Office, you can’t go wrong with 21336 The Office, a brilliant tribute to the show, and its iconic characters. Nearly every character is included as a minifigure (except Andy), and you also get a large section of the Dunder Miffling Scranton office as a nice bonus.

Check out my review of 21336 The Office and discover all the amazing Easter Eggs hidden within.

76218 Sanctum Sanctorum

Want a Marvel-themed Modular to introduce some capes and superheroes to your Modular Building street?

76218 Sanctum Sanctorum is your answer, and while the minifigure lineup is quite disappointing, it’s a brilliant and aesthetically-pleasing pseudo Modular building that hides plenty of great Doctor Strange and Marvel Easter Eggs within.

Check out my review of 76218 Sanctum Santorum

10311 Orchid

10311 Orchid is one of the most beautiful LEGO sets ever designed, and has also resisted a price increase this year, making it an even more exceptional set that’s a worthy entrant into LEGO’s wildly popular Botanical Collection.

It’s a great gift that you can share with your friends or loved ones to introduce them to LEGO.

Check out my review of 10311 Orchid and see why I thought it deserved a perfect 5-star rating.

10297 Boutique Hotel

It’s close to 2023, and hopefully another fantastic LEGO Modular building, but if you haven’t yet picked up the 2022 Modular, it’s a great time to check in to 10297 Boutique Hotel.

The period European architecture, and inviting colour scheme makes for a great corner Modular Building paired with a satisfying build filled with plenty of clever techniques.

Check out my review of 10297 Boutique Hotel to see why I awarded it a rare 5-star rating.

Wait for the LEGO Eiffel Tower

Look, you don’t need to spend anything on LEGO VIP Weekend just because LEGO is luring you in with Double VIP Points and great GWPs, especially if you’re waiting for 10307 Eiffel Tower which releases on Black Friday, the 25th of November 2022.

If you want the Eiffel Tower, it’s easy to forgo the Double VIP points, especially as you’ll get 40579 Eiffel’s Apartment as gift with purchase when you order this 10,001-piece marvel.

76956 T. rex Breakout

And last but not least for all you Jurassic Park fans is 76956 T. rex Breakout, which released earlier this year, and might have fallen off your radar.

This diorama is a lovely ode to Jurassic Park, and also features the long-awaited minifigure-scale Ford Explorer, which gets squished by a brick-built T.Rex.

Check out my review of the Jurassic Park 76956 T. rex Breakout.

10307 Optimus Prime

And last but not least (because Pick a Brick isn’t technically a set), is my second favourite set of 2022 – 10302 Optimus Prime. I still can’t believe this is a thing, and that LEGO teamed up with Hasbro to release a working and transforming Optimus Prime.

This marks an exceptionally high point in LEGO’s history, and for fans of LEGO and Transformers, it was like Christmas had come early.

Check out my review of 10302 Optimus Prime to see me gush about it.

Hope you found this list of some of my favourite LEGO sets of 2022 useful.

Of course this list isn’t exhaustive, and there’s so many other great sets that I could add to it, but if you’re thinking of picking something up to take advantage of LEGO VIP Weekend 2022, these are ones I would look at.

Also keep in mind that Black Friday and Cyber Monday is next weekend, and I fully expect some great discounts on LEGO sets, so you might want to hold back if you’re wanting to score a bargain instead!

    Great review, Jay!
Nearly all the best sets of 2022, in one meat article!
    Keep them coming!

  2. Monty says:

    Some really nice choices there.

I’m still hoping the castle and the lighthouse make it to retail (the latter is more likely) in Australia. I would like to get Horizon, but it’s been out of stock for a while now.

Honestly, pick a brick is looking like a good choice.

I had no intention of getting the Eifel tower – that thing is a monstrous size – but it I’m blown away by the beauty and art of it – the idea of keeping it in a box is honestly a sad and expensive choice. Something to mull over, so I doubt that will be something I get soon.
