LEGO 40583 Houses of the World 1 gift with purchase (GWP) and 40584 Birthday Diorama revealed!

LEGO’s online store has given us our very first official look at the product page of an upcoming LEGO gift with purchase (GWP) – 40583 Houses of the World 1.

Update: 40583 Houses of the World 1 will be yours when you spend US$250 / AU$400 / £220 / €250 on LEGO.com from 15 – 25 January 2023.

From the product description and the “1” in the set name, LEGO is beginning a new cycle of collectable GWPs, and is the first in the LEGO Houses of the World collection.

The product description also suggest that there are at least 3 more coming, 40590, 40594 and 40599, which will likely focus on different regional architectural styles.

We don’t have any indication of when this will be available, but it’s likely to begin on 15 January 2023, right after 40580 Blacktron Cruiser concludes. There’s a rumoured US$200/€200 threshold to qualify for 40583 Houses of the World 1, but we’ll hopefully be able to confirm that soon when LEGO’s Offers and Promotions page updates.

Be inspired by different cultures as you build the first in a collection of LEGO® Houses of the World. In tribute to the buildings of South America, this house (40583) features distinctive architectural details. The theme continues inside with South American interior decor. The modular design means this house can be combined with others from the collection (40590, 40594 and 40599) – each available separately.

I kinda like this GWP, as it’s something different from nostalgia-driven sets, and if you have a keen interest in travel, or architecture, this looks like a great collection to start. I also like sets that are in micro-scale, so this will be on my radar for a future LEGO.com purchase.

Just be aware that there are 3 more in this series, and if the rumoured high GWP threshold is confirmed, you’ll need to be very strategic with your purchases if you’re going to commit to LEGO’s Houses of the World Collection.

That said – I don’t think this is a must-have, so don’t succumb to FOMO as we’re only one week into 2023, and I’m sure LEGO will have plenty of other delights and surprises in-store for us!

40584 Birthday Diorama

Additionally, the LEGO’s online store has also updated to give us a look at 40584 Birthday Diorama, another upcoming GWP. Again, no availability or redemption details, but this looks like a fun little gift that will hopefully not be too hard to redeem.

Maybe they’ll announce it on the birthday of the brick, on 28 January which is the date that the LEGO Brick was first patented?

The house of the world is nifty and all… but there’s nothing about it that compels me to “need it” or “want it”, especially given the spending threshold. If anything, it would just give me ideas on creating my own house from spare bricks we have lying around. I agree with the other commenters – I can just build and design my own houses.

  2. Dave says:

I love the house, but it is too bad that it isn’t mini-fig scale. I might make my own need on this one that is to scale

  3. Andrew Gardiner says:

It looks cute enough but for us in Australia it will mean a spend of over $310 (like for the Blacktron Cruiser) which is OK if you have big shopping list anyway. If you want this for the house itself and not the collectibility aspect it may be preferable to build it from parts.
