LEGO heads under the sea with 3 The Little Mermaid sets, including 43225 The Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell!

The 2023 LEGO Disney set reveal extravaganza continues with 3 new sets inspired by the 2023 live-action The Little Mermaid movie, starring Halle Bailey as Ariel that will premiere in theatres on 26 May.

The three sets cover quite a bit of ground, with offerings for all ages and pricepoints, but most exciting of the 3 is 43225 Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell, a 1,808-piece set aimed at grownups and features a gorgeous shell-shaped display piece and Ariel, Ursula, King Triton, and Ariel’s sisters Indira and Karina as minifigures.

You’ll be able to pre-order 43225 The Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell from 23 April onwards on LEGO.com, once the product page goes live in your region.

The other two sets round up the trio, with some Dots-based play, and also a brand new LEGO Storybook, which is a long-running Disney Princess format.

These 2023 Little Mermaid LEGO sets will be released on 1 May 2023 and will be available on LEGO.com, and most toy stores.

43225 Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell

43225 Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell is such a pleasant and unexpected surprise from LEGO, and it’s the first LEGO Disney adults set for the year. It features a massive clamshell diorama, measuring 31cm (12 inches) wide, and 32 (12.5 inches) tall) that has different sections from the film, including King Triton’s throne, Ariel’s grotto and Ursula’s lair.

It’s really quite a sizeable and substantial set, so it should look really great on display.

The set comes with 5 minifigures that include Ariel, Ursula, King Triton, and Ariel’s sisters Indira and Karina. Also included are Flounder and Sebastian the Crab.

The minifigures look great, and I’m excited to get King Triton as a minifigure, as well as the fantastic and colourful new Mermaid Tails, and a new Ursula minifigure.

Sebastian as a regular LEGO crab is hilarious, but also accurate, as all the animals look photorealistic in the movie.

And if you dislike the new 2023 reboot designs, you can always swap out the Little Mermaid and Ursula for the LEGO Disney Series 1 Ariel if you prefer a purist, animated version of Ariel.

Truth be told, I think the set is quite beautiful, and I really like the clamshell design, and just how large it looks, and I’m quite excited to check it out in person.

43229 Ariel’s Treasure Chest

Price: US$47.99 / £42.99 / €47.99

LEGO Dots lives on in 43229 Ariel’s Treasure Chest, which comes with Ariel in a crystal dress-piece, a brick-built treasure chest and even a Dots bracelet! The pricing of this is very high in my opinion, and all but guarantees it becomes clearance-fodder.

Still, very nice to see that true to LEGO’s word, Dots remains in other sets!

43213 The Little Mermaid Story Book

Price: $19.99 / AU$32.99 / €19.99 / £17.99

And last but not least, another new LEGO Disney Storybook set, this time featuring Prince Eric, Ariel and Ursula as microdolls! It joins the Peter Pan and Wendy Storybook from earlier this year as the 2nd one so far, and I like collecting these because of the microdolls, and how fun they are as little builds.

LEGO and Disney must feel really good about the 2023 live-action reboot to dedicate 3 sets, including an adults set to The Little Mermaid. If it sets the box office on fire and is well-received by the general audience, I can see these sets doing really well, except maybe the Treasure Chest set which is wildly overpriced.

Nice varied sets. I do like elements of the storybook, those minidolls are cute, but i always feel with these they could benefit to at least one side having a base plate for more playability. Maybe they’ll want to restrict everything to middle so it will close but would be nice to have options to spread things out.

The treasure chest is looks really cute, and very fun to see dots bracelet.

The big set looks impressive but the disney 100 enchanted treehouse for roughly the same price while a simpler build seems to have lot more fun elements. Though I do really like the ursala mini figure.
