LEGO sent me a mystery box and an invite to Make LEGO Sonic More Eggman..
It’s a part of the job to receive packages from LEGO and it’s not unusual for review sets and other goodies to show up at my front door every other week or so, but this time, LEGO decided to send something a little extra special… and devious.
The LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog theme, launches on 1 August with the sets below:
- 76990 Sonic’s Speed Sphere Challenge – US$34.99 / AU$52.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 / CAD$39.99
- 76991 Tails’s Workshop and Tornado Plane – US$39.99 / AU$64.99 / £37.99 / €42.99 / CAD$49.99

Here’s a look at the box design, which features Sonic, Tails and Amy Rose!

This box is super cool, and I really love these illustrations, and manic scribbles from Dr. Eggman on the lid of the box.
Opening the box.. I was greeted with this insert, with a space for a Dr. Eggman / Dr Robotnik minifigure secured in place, followed by more of those lovely illustrations and messages.
Dr. Eggman is a strong contender for minifigure of the year!
Lifting up Dr. Eggman insert, I was greeted to a bunch of LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog set boxes (yes!), and a letter!
Here’s a lovely letter from Dr. Eggman himself! In case you can’t read it, here’s the text of the letter below.
HELLO!
What a lovely surprise, isn’t it? Because you don’t deserve anything from that annoying rodent, here’s my very own LEGO minifigue. The last brick-built version of me was subpar so this is my beautiful comeback.
But wait, there’s more! You can find my highly technological mech robot in one of the boxes – use it to take Sonic down. I also tossed in some LEGO bricks for you to #MakeLEGOSonicMoreEggman.
Remove his blue quills, add a moustache, do whatever you fancy, and just upload it to the LEGO Ideas challenge page.
Time to let the world know about my awesomeness.
Intelligently yours, Dr. Eggman. P.S. I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!!!
So here’s the contents of the box, what seems like the entire LEGO Sonic Wave! I thought it was my lucky day until I began rattling some of the boxes, which definitely did NOT sound like what real LEGO boxes actually sound like.
I then noticed these Dr. Eggman stickers on all the boxes, and it immediately dawned upon me that these boxes had been tampered with. Thankfully 76993 Sonic vs. Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot was the only proper LEGO box, and I get to build it!
The other LEGO Sonic boxes were meticulously sealed like a normal LEGO set, and inside were a bunch of random bags of bricks!
Based on the letter, it looks like I’ll have to follow Dr. Eggman’s commands, and build something for the #MakeLEGOSonicMoreEggman challenge!
Stay tuned to see what I come back with! I’ll need to start flexing my MOC skills and build something fast!
What do you think I should build with this?? Let me know in the comments!
