All the new 2021 LEGO sets featured in the 1HY Catalogue

Can you believe that 2021 is almost upon us? While most of us will be relieved to say goodbye to 2020, what better way to start looking at the year ahead than with all the new LEGO sets coming in the first half of 2021!

LEGO have shared their digital product catalogue for 2021 for NZ, and we now have a complete-ish look at all the new retail sets coming in 2021!

Note that sets featured in these pages are typically general release sets that can be found at most toy stores, and does not include any exclusive, D2C, 18+ releases and any other surprises LEGO might have for us.

On the 1st of January, 10281 Bonsai Tree, 10280 Flower Bouquet the Modular Police Station will go on sale!

To check out some of the exclusive releases, be sure to read my reviews of 10278 Modular Police Station or 80107 Spring Lantern Festival!

Note these dates are based on the NZ calendar, so they might vary in other parts of the world, but Australia tends to be in the same release schedule.

Also, these dates are dates that sets will appear at retail stores (like Kmart/Myer) in Australia and New Zealand, however, a large majority of these sets will be available from 1 January 2021 onwards from LEGO.com, Amazon and LEGO Certified Stores.

New LEGO City 2021 – January

We get a whole slew of new LEGO City sets, with the new Road Plates being the highlight of LEGO City sets. Friend of the blog Rambling Brick has written a great write-up on the evolution of road base plates, and what this might mean for LEGO City builders.

I’m really excited for the new 60287 Tractor as I love seeing more Farm-type models, but the set I’m most excited about is 60291 Family House which includes a new LEGO Labrador! Cue screams of excitement for golden Lab owners!

LEGO Harry Potter fans are going to love these new Harry Potter Moments books, which open up to feature a buildable scene.

With books for each house – Hufflepuff (Herbology), Ravenclaw (Charms), Slytherin (Potions) and Gryffindor (Transfiguration), no matter which house you got sorted into, there’ll be something for everyone.

Can’t wait to get a few of these books to review in January 2021!

Lots of love for Spider-Man fans in early 2021! I’m especially excited for the 76175 Attack on the Spider-Lair base with its massive collection of Spider-suits!

Peter Parker has definitely been taking interior design classes from Tony Parker and Bruce Wayne!

The Miles Morales Mech with hooded Miles Morales Spider-Man minifig is also a decent pickup.

Heartlake City fans have a lot to look forward to, with some new buildings and settings for LEGO Friends – a new Shopping Mall, Movie Theatre, Organic Cafe, Andrea’s Family House, Heartlake City Park, Vet Clinic, Bakery and Doggy Day Care .

I’m really excited about 41448 Heartlake City Movie Theatre and can’t wait to add that to my, ahem, my daughter’s collection.

Lots of new Animal Cubes as well!

New Duplo 2021 – January & March

There sure is a lot of new LEGO Duplo coming out in January and March which will be great for new parents, or if you’re shopping for gifts. I think the sets with the flash cards are going to make great gifts to ensure young ones get hooked on LEGO plastic as early as possible.

New LEGO Minions & Vidiyo Teaser 2021

Last but not least, we have teasers for more Minions sets (to coincide with the delayed release of Rise of Gru) as well as the new Vidiyo teaser.

What’s coming out for the wine village sets???

  2. Leo says:

I’m addicted to Lego City sets

  3. Lynne Schlein says:

I don’t see any new Lego Architecture buildings.
Why not? I have completed all but 6 which are
retired or so expensive that I can’t afford them.
I am a 72 year old woman who enjoys doing the
Architecture series as relaxation therapy. Please explain why there are no new ones.

    • Lynne Schlein says:

I absolutely HATE the Micro Mini blocks!!
I don’t enjoy trying to build something that requires using Tweezers to put up
the blocks. Please STOP creating and
      producing these irritating blocks.

  4. Does not be enough items to buy separate dinosaurs guns robbers police building materials

  5. Laurie St. Germain says:

most interested in architecture sets and anything coming out to continue the theme introduced with the Medieval Blacksmith

  6. leo says:

    i love Lego trucks

  7. Chris says:

    Hi
Is there any word on the next fairground release?

    • Jay says:

No rumours yet, unfortunately! Looking at last year’s Haunted House, we should hear something in the next 2 months, if LEGO keeps to their regular release cycle.

  8. Leland Guo says:

I am exited for the x wing

    • Jay says:

Nice! I’ve had so many different X-Wings in the past that I don’t feel the need to pick it up, but it’s great that LEGO keeps pumping them out for people who’ve missed out in the past.

      • ryan says:

I have a question: why has the quality of lego sets progressively gotten more simplistic? I remember as a kid these grand lego themes. But when they make newer ones, I’m just kinda disappointed. No offense.

        • Hans says:

You’re seeing it through the lens of an adult now vs. the lens of a child from back then, so no doubt it will appear that way. Lego sets these days have improved a lot compared to the hay day 80s and 90s with way more sophisticated building techniques. The only thing different is their stinginess with minifigures now days with less minifigures in a set vs a similar type set from the 80s

  9. Ivan says:

Pirate theme revived with new pirate and imperial ships and pirate islands.

  10. Tonda says:

    Pardon dělal jsem si srandu

  11. Tonda says:

    Je to pěkná blbost
    A ty jsi pěknej debil

  12. Cian says:

Do you know if the regular road baseplates are being discontinued in favour of the new road system? I have a lot of Lego Modular buildings and much prefer the road baseplates, but they’re out of stock on the Lego website. Any word on whether they’re being done away with or not?

  13. Chtěl bych aby udělali lego mickey mouse a lego gta 5

  14. Owen says:

hello i am a big fan of your blog i hope you post some more awesome pic on your blog

  15. Laura says:

Waiting for the Lego Ideas Pooh Bear Release–when is it due???

  16. the 2021 lego architecture you havent posted

  17. Josh says:

A bit disappointed no DC Superheroes seem to be coming down the pipe

And I was hoping they would have done a 3rd Ecto-1 for GB Afterlife to go with my other 2 sets

  18. Andy says:

I spotted that they have put the new Lego Friends sets up on the U.K. site at least with the prices. The movie theatre seems overpriced for what it is. £45 in the U.K.

There’s no piece count yet, but it doesn’t look much bigger than the baking competition, which is £10 cheaper.

Having said that, we will probably go for a more expensive set: Andrea’s house looks great, with the musical instruments in the garage and is this the first time we’ve seen Andrea’s little sister Liz in a set?

  19. Candyce says:

I am sure my 7 year old will want the Avengers, Mi ecraft, and Ninjago

  20. David O'Donnell says:

Hi Jay, excellent works as always 👍🏻. Any news on Speed Champions? I’m really hoping for some more Group B Rally Legends to go with my Audi Quattro S1 E2 – this has got to be my favourite Lego set ever (followed closely by the ’89 Batmobile).
    Best wishes.
    David

    • Jay says:

Thanks David. No news on Speed Champions which is a little concerning! Hopefully this means that there’ll be more unveiled in the coming months (perhaps they want to keep new cars under wraps).

  21. Charlie S says:

So looking forward to the mandolorian sets from the lego star wars side

  22. Thulium42 says:

They don’t usually tease the regular CMF series, do they? Could the new one in May be something special?

Please please please be a series of The Mandalorian minifigs… there are definitely 12 minifig-worthy characters between seasons 1 and 2.

    • Jay says:

No in the catalogue, there’s always a teaser for the upcoming series, so this is quite normal.

I would love nothing more than a Clone Wars series!

  23. Milo c says:

the newest city line up is good (aside from police and fire) but a bit overpriced ( finally getting the Ninjago world hoodie in a wide release set)
and the creator beach house looks jumbled up and crowded yet clean for what it is

  24. Monty says:

The 3 in 1 creator sets are such a great series of sets. However, even as a non- Labrador owner, that LEGO Labrador! is awesome !

  25. Hans says:

    No new Castle theme :’(

  26. Mark Cento says:

    All very cool.
Was hoping to see pictures of the Ninjago City Garden.

  27. Andrew says:

LOL, I accept I am the Christmas Grinch (now there’s something new for Ideas ;)) but the thing I’m most looking forward to is next year Lego stocking all the sets still on my wishlist from this year.

For me the pick of the new sets is the Technic Ferrari. I assume it’s the same scale as the Porsche RSR, they should look good together.

    • Jay says:

Not the grinch at all! It’s been a massive problem for LEGO as well – they would LOVE to meet the demand, but because of Covid, even they couldn’t meet their most optimistic forecasts as demand has just been unprecedented.

Hopefully as things go back to normal next year, we’ll see things return back to normal.

  28. Mark P says:

No new Speed Champions?!? I thought they were released in Feb? Oh well! ?‍♀️

  29. Mark Pendergas says:

No new Speed Champions?!? I thought they were released in Feb? Oh well! ?‍♀️

    • Jay says:

Yeah, strange omission! I hope this means they have a few more under wraps, or maybe in H2. LEGO is definitely not lifting its foot off the gas with vehicles and have signalled that cars are still a big part of their adult strategy.

  30. Fiona says:

Interesting that they’ve left the AFOL sets (such as creator expert and botanical collection ) out of this catalogue – I wonder if they’ll create an “Adult” catalogue!

The items I’m most excited about are the new road plates and the Harry Potter buildable books.

My 3D catalogue app doesn’t work… does anyone else have this problem (maybe it doesn’t become active until 2021)?

    • Jay says:

Yes – that’s usually the case as 18+ sets are usually kept under wraps, and news of them gets released by LEGO blogs/news sites.

An adult catalogue is an interesting idea, but these LEGO catalogues tend to be aimed at kids – my daughter is obsessed with them, and often plans ahead what to ask for birthdays/Christmas etc.

I’m really looking forward to the Harry Potter books too!
