First look at the LEGO Technic 42131 CAT D11 Bulldozer!

Thanks to LEGO’s Official Weibo account, we have our very first look at the upcoming Technic 42131 CAT D11 Bulldozer which is set to be released on 1 October 2021.

This giant bulldozer is based on the real-life Caterpillar D11, and weighs in at 3,854-pieces. There is no pricing details yet, but I’ll update this post when that information becomes available.

See below for regional pricing and links:

The Technic CAT D11T can be controlled by the CONTROL+ app, allowing it to showcase its functions, such as controlling the front and rear steering, movement of blades, rippers and ladders to properly simulate the bulldozer.

You can see the Technic Cat D11 in action in this video from BrickJoy, posted on Chinese micro-blogging platform Weibo – which really shows off the functions of the CAT D11.

UPDATE: LEGO have also posted the video on Facebook

A really interesting new addition to the set, are these tyre treads, which are released in yellow for the very first time.

Here are photos of the actual Caterpillar D11 that was also shared on LEGO’s Weibo post.

I’m not a massive fan of LEGO Technic (except for the large sports cars) but there’s no denying that this is an absolutely gargantuan model, putting it right up there with the 42100 Technic Liebherr R9800 Excavator in terms of overall size.

The build looks great. Not sure of the yellow tracks though, I think grey or black would’ve just looked better and broken up the track section.
The price seems excessive though! Builds like the Volvo dump truck or the new Heavy haulage tow truck seem like better value.

    • Jay says:

Yellow Tracks would be really useful for other MOCs/builds – so hopefully they show up in more sets or Bricks and Pieces.

I’m not familiar with Technic, but I guess that’s the price of all the app-controlled features baked into it. Either that or they know adults can generally afford the price for Technic, so they’re just pushing upwards with the price.

  2. Adrian says:

1 hub and 3 motors less than with the Liebher, but the same price. TLG is pushing the limits with this new technic sets(

  3. Ed says:

The treads are not just a new color, they are a new element.

  4. Wim Goris says:

The US website lists it at $499.99 and release on October 1st…

    • Wim Goris says:

My bad. It’s $449.99 but that’s still an awful lot I think. I love the Volvo 6×6 dump truck, but I’m not impressed with the power and how long batteries last while in use.
I’m really thinking it could be even worse with this bulldozer until LEGO finds a reliable and long enough lasting power source for these sets ?
So I’m holding off on this one for now;… and I really like this set otherwise and want to get it.

  5. Water Ghost says:

Such an awesome looking set. Can’t wait to get it.
