Unboxing and first impressions of LEGO 75313 UCS AT-AT

If you’re a LEGO Star Wars fan, you absolutely want to find this set under your Christmas tree.

The LEGO UCS AT-AT has officially been revealed, and will be available on 26 November 2021 (Black Friday) from LEGO.com, and LEGO were kind enough to send over an early review copy.

Unfortunately, the logistics were a bit of a mess, and my package was held up somewhere for about 2 weeks, which has been a frustrating ordeal as I was really looking forward to having a review ready to go, but alas, these things happen.

The Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) AT-AT will be priced at US$799.99 / AU$1299.99 and will be available on Black Friday, 26 November 2021 exclusively from LEGO.com or LEGO stores.

Instead, here’s quick look at the unboxing experience, which is pretty spectacular and one of the best that LEGO have every devised, at least for a LEGO Star Wars UCS set.

There are some clear spoilers, so don’t read on if you like your experience of unboxing the UCS AT-AT to be completely unspoiled!

First things first – the box is undeniably massive – about the same size as the LEGO Colosseum’s or UCS Millennium Falcon Box and it’s heavy – about 12.5 kg!

Here’s what greets you as you open the outer shipper.

Here’s a look at the back of the box, which features some of the great moments featuring the AT-AT from Empire Strikes Back.

Here’s the side, which proudly showcases the AT-AT’s butt.

Ripping the first flap open reveals this great artwork of the AT-AT, a Snowtrooper operating an E-Web Heavy Repeating Blaster, as well as the correct Imperial logo! Great job, graphic designers!

Open up that flap reveals another great surprise – the blue-tinted viewfinder shot of not one, not two, but three AT-ATs approaching Echo Base. Not a great start to your day if you’re a Rebel, freezing your butt off at Echo Base.

Opening up those flaps reveals what is possible THE most surprising element of the entire unboxing experience – this incredible artwork of the AT-AT printed vertically across all four inner boxes.

That’s right – no more plain white inner boxes – these are now GORGEOUS and you absolutely don’t want to recycle these.

This was honestly, such an amazing surprise, and something that LEGO has never done. The unboxing experience for LEGO (even expensive sets can be fairly predictable), but I was absolutely blown away here.

The picture is printed across all four inner boxes, and make such a dramatic impact upon discovering them, really setting the tone for what is an epic build.

But that’s not all – each box is numbered, and features these highlighted diagrams of the sections of the AT-AT that are contained in each box.

Again, a massive step up and finally, a premium experience that has been missing from LEGO UCS sets.

But wait, there’s more. Over on the other side, the boxes are covered in snow, with the AT-AT footprints printed all across them. These are seriously brilliant, as they serve as a great “base” for the AT-AT, or even a backdrop for photography, when stacked on the sides.

Utterly brilliant, and this gave me so much joy, before even opening the boxes.

Here are the four instruction booklets contained in each box, which are housed within cardboard envelopes.

Like any UCS or even D2C or large exclusive (or expensive!) LEGO set, the manuals contain plenty of cool details of the build, designers and subject matter.

Here’s a cursory glance through the pages.

I really enjoyed this last diagram, which shows up in the manual multiple times, demonstrating the right way to pose the AT-AT, as well as the wrong way. I’m guessing these poses will stress the legs, or LEGO bricks, so don’t try this at home.

And last but not least, here’s a look at the sticker sheet!

Unfortunately, due to me literally receiving the set yesterday (I have a newborn, and full time day job, so it was almost impossible to build a 6000+ piece set in a day) I haven’t quite finished the set yet – I’m about halfway through but boy, is it a lot of fun.

It’s truly an engineering marvel, and one of the most interesting and challenging sets that I’ve built – and I can’t wait to see it all come together.
