Favourite LEGO Sets of 2021 from your favourite news sites and LEGO influencers

The best LEGO sets of 2021 – you’ve heard what my Top 10 sets are, and you’ve voted for your favourites, but what do some of the top LEGO news sites, blogs, Youtubers and Instagrammers have as their favourite picks of 2021?

I reached out to some of the most influential LEGO personalities and publications, asking some of your favourite Recognised LEGO Fan Media, what their favourite sets of 2021 were, and why!

I have a tremendous amount of respect for everyone on the list, as these are some of the biggest and most influential LEGO voices on the internet – so here’s what they had to say!

Also hope to raise the profile of these sites and content creators, as there is just so much high quality LEGO content being produced in so many different forms and languages, from news sites, to Youtube to Instagram!

Without further ado… here are your favourite LEGO sites and content creator’s favourite LEGO sets of 2021!

Brickset – 10294 Titanic

Brickset founder, Huw Millington’s pick is 10294 Titanic!

I was not expecting to appreciate a model of a ship with such a tragic history but that all changed as soon as I started building it. The sheer size of the model could have made it an arduous experience, but the way it’s built in small subsections means it’s never overwhelming and the sense of achievement when it all comes together right at the end is palpable. The end result is a beautiful and accurate scale model that would not look out of place in a museum. Just make sure you have somewhere to put it before buying it!

Bricks by Mind – 71746 Jungle Dragon

Youtuber and Instagrammer Bricks by Mind (@bricks.by.mind)’s pick is 71746 Jungle Dragon

My favorite set of 2021 was 71746 Jungle Dragon from Ninjago. I feel like that model perfected the LEGO dragon in my eyes – the body has a unique shape and feels very organic, there’s a wide range of motion for play and display, and the head design has tons of personality too it, it feels very animated. All of that combined with the unique color choice of teal and gold, a fair price, and decent minifigure selection, it’s easily my favorite set of the year.

Emmasaurus – 76178 Daily Bugle

Youtuber Emmasaurus (@its.emmasaurus)’s pick is 76178 Daily Bugle!

My favorite set this year is the Daily Bugle! I love that LEGO is starting to create modular style buildings outside the Modular Buildings Collection. It’s the perfect pop culture addition to any LEGO City and I’m excited to see if they’ll make similar superhero sets in the future! I’ve personally switched out the “Daily Bugle” lettering for the name of our LEGO City, “Ladyburg” and Ive seen others get creative modifying the set in unique ways as well! As for the set itself, it’s packed full of details and Easter eggs that any Marvel fan can enjoy 😊

Brickcentral – 21325 Medieval Blacksmith

Brickcentral’s ambassador Four Bricks Tall (@fourbrickstall) picked 21325 Medieval Blacksmith!

It’s gotta be Medieval Blacksmith, hands down. Apart from being a medieval fantasy fan, the set as a display is beautiful and it doesn’t feel cramped at all. As a toy photographer, I really appreciated being able to shoot from all angles, and even in the top floor easily because of the removable roof.

Briques Mag – 10289 Bird of Paradise

French LEGO Magazine Briques Mag‘s editor Sébastien picked 10289 Bird of Paradise!

I loved the set10289 “Bird of Paradise” by the designer Chris McVeigh: Clean, elegant lines, almost an art deco style. A very intelligent line which I think appeals to all adults and especially new fans. It’s a purely decorative creation and stunning in its resemblances to the real plant. A real beauty!

Also the set 10290 “The Pickup Truck” by Pierre Normandin. Quite simply because it is a car that I would like to have in person which represents a lifestyle in the countryside that I like ! And maybe one last but not least … the set 76391 “Hogwarts Icons Collectors’ edition by Nick Vas which is a work of art. A brilliantly executed set whether you like the world of Harry Potter or not !

Solid Brix Studios – 75309 UCS Republic Gunship

Youtuber David Hall from Solid Brix Studios picked 75309 UCS Republic Gunship!

I’d say the UCS Gunship actually. The Titanic and UCS AT-AT are basically neck-n-neck with it as well. For me, I got to see & build the UCS Gunship ahead of any leaks.. It was so awesome to just have my raw reaction without anyone maybe swaying my opinion towards one way or another. It’s a perfect LEGO model of one on my all time favorite Star Wars ship designs. It’s exactly what I wanted. I can forgive the minifigure selection haha.

Racing Brick – 42128 Tow Truck

LEGO Youtuber and Technic expert Balasz from Racing Brick picked 42128 Technic Tow Truck!

The 42128 tow truck probably, it’s an old school Technic set with lots of mechanical and pneumatic features for a very fair price.

Klemmbausteinlyrik – 10294 Titanic

German Youtuber and Blogger Henry from klemmbausteinlyrik.de picked 10294 Titanic!

My set of the year is the Titanic (10294). It is for me one of the most impressive LEGO sets ever. The Ninjago City Gardens (my No. 2) has perhaps more interesting building techniques, but the Titanic looks so great with all the details outside and inside – really near to model making.

AprilB – 76391 Hogwarts Icons

LEGO Twitch Streamer AprilB picked 76391 Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition!

Yeah my favorite set this year was Hogwarts Icons. It’s an absolutely gorgeous display piece with something for any Harry Potter fan & an incredible build experience. It’s definitely one of my favorite sets of all time.

AshnFlash – 76178 Daily Bugle

Youtuber and tragic DC fan Ashnflash’s pick is 76178 Daily Bugle!

It’s gotta be the Bugle. It just edges out Ninjago City Gardens. BARELY. Both are perfect sets.

Tiago Catarino – 10294 Titanic

Youtuber and ex-LEGO Designer Tiago Catarino also picked 10294 Titanic!

Titanic! A surprisingly not boring build considering it’s size at over 9000 pieces. A lot of unexpected and super clever building techniques by LEGO Designer Mike Psiaki and maybe because there’s a hidden tile with my initials inside, a nod to the fact I pitched the idea back in 2019 when I was still working for LEGO

Brick Banter – 71741 Ninjago City Gardens

@cheepjokes from LEGO Blog Brick Banter picked 71741 Ninjago City Gardens!

So much fun detail, I don’t think there were any bags that were boring. great colours, looks amazing on display

The Rambling Brick – 80107 Spring Lantern Festival

Richard from LEGO blog The Rambling Brick picked 80107 Spring Lantern Festival!

A masterclass in landscape design. It provides insight into the cultural background, and also maps out a varied landscape. And then you can integrate it into your modular city too!

Bricktastic Blog – 71741 Ninjago City Gardens

West Australian LEGO Blog Bricktastic Blog picked 71741 Ninjago City Gardens!

Massive build, super eye catching and chock full of detail and interesting build techniques.

Bricking Around – 31120 Creator 3-in-1 Medieval Castle

Fellow Australian blogger, Bricking Around picked 31120 Creator 3-in-1 Medieval Castle!

It’s great to have a castle on the shelves to buy in 2021. But wait it’s not just a castle! It’s 3 different castle builds and they are all great. Can you buy 3 and connect the 3 different builds? Hell yeah you can.

Hellobricks – 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery

French LEGO news site Hello Bricks picked 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery!

10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery, a fantastic set with great techniques to recreate the complex geometries of the shuttle, but it was a very close race with the 21325 Medieval Blacksmith for the LEGO Castle era notalgia and the Modular-like building experience!

DrKatBuilds – 10291 Queer Eye Fab 5 Loft

Twitch streamer Dr Kat Builds picked 10291 Queer Eye The Fab 5 Loft!

I think I’m going to have to go with the Queer Eye set! Not only was it a fanatic step forward for LEGO with diversity and representation, I loved the sleek look of the apartment and outfits, and the kitchen was incredible!

Between the Bricks – 76391 Hogwarts Icons

Twitch streamer and fellow antipodean, Dan from Between the Bricks also selected 76391 Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons – Collector’s Edition!

My favorite set of 2021 has to be 76391 Hogwarts Icons. Whilst I haven’t yet had the pleasure of building it, I do have it waiting for the right time to sit and enjoy. What I love about this set is what it stands for, I really feel like this one is for the fans of both LEGO and Harry Potter and nails both design and aesthetics. Simply put, it looks gorgeous and the building techniques look interesting, unique and a whole lot of fun

HollyOnFilm (formerly known as Potter Minifig Pals) – 76178 Daily Bugle!

Fellow Australian and LEGO Youtube HollyOnFilm’s pick is 76178 Daily Bugle!

My favourite was the Daily Bugle as I think it’s the perfect display piece. The minifigures do exactly what they should and compliment the build and the whole set tells a story and perfectly captures the action of the Spider-Man universe.

True North Bricks – 76178 Daily Bugle

Canadian RLFM and blogger True North Bricks also picked 76178 Daily Bugle!

It was the skyscraper I have been hoping LEGO would make. There are so many fun details. Additionally, the unique Minifigures were all must-haves for my collection.

Tips & Bricks – 80024 Monkie Kid Legendary Fruit Flower Mountain

Tips and Bricks actually had a tie, with the Monkie Kid 80024 Legendary Fruit Flower Mountain and 76193 The Guardians’ Ship!

A beautiful display set with amazing piece selection and 8 excellent minifigures!

Jedi News – 75313 UCS AT-AT

The authority on all things Star Wars, Jedi News’ James picked 75313 UCS AT-AT!

My favourite set of 2021 would have to be the new UCS AT-AT. This is one of the most requested sets by LEGO Star Wars fans and we’ve been waiting for over twenty years for the set to finally arrive. I’m delighted to say that the set exceeds expectations with a fantastic interior that matches the source material, and a good overall design that makes this one of the best UCS sets ever made, setting the bar very high for future sets.

The Brothers Brick – 10294 Titanic

The Brothers Brick ambassador Chris Malloy picked 10294 Titanic!

My favorite set from 2021 would have to be 10294 Titanic. I’ll admit that when I first heard rumors that LEGO might be doing a Titanic set, my expectations were pretty low, but I was blown away when building the model. It was a very fun build with a lot of novel and engaging techniques, and the finished model is both beautiful and technically impressive—even though it’s over 4 feet long, you can pick it up with one hand!

The Brick Fan – 71031 Marvel Studios Minifigures

LEGO news site The Brick Fan picked 71031 Marvel Studios Minifigures!

My favorite set from 2021 is probably the LEGO Marvel Studios Collectible Minifigures (71031). I’m a huge Marvel fan and to finally have a minifigure series based on the Disney+ shows is pretty awesome. Not only that, they are actually pretty accurate to the episodes as well. Also to have a Marvel minifigure series in general is something I thought we would never see.

The Brick Wiz – 75313 UCS AT-AT

Youtuber and Star Wars fanatic The Brick Wiz’s pick is 75313 UCS AT-AT!

My favorite set of 2021, for reasons other than it’s sheer size and awesomeness, has to be the 75313 Ultimate Collector Series AT-AT. It’s a perfect representation of how far The LEGO Group has come with its ingenuity and creativity when it comes to elements usage and techniques in their product portfolio. A 2ft tall, stable, and aesthetically pleasing Star Wars walker was unthinkable 10 years ago, but now is something fans around the world get to enjoy.

Sariel’s Bricks & Pets – 21329 Fender Stratocaster

LEGO Youtuber and Hamster-enthusiast Sariel’s Bricks & Pets picked 21329 Ideas Fender Stratocaster!

It’s hard to pick one set among so many great ones but I guess my favorite this year is the 21329 Fender Stratocaster because I’m a bass guitar player myself and I find this set an excellent display piece for any musician. I also see a great potential for LEGO to follow up with different guitar and amp bands, and I’m personally hoping they will release a bass guitar with a Marshall amp.

Hispabrick Magazine – 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery

Jetro from LEGO magazine Hispabrick‘s pick is 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery!

My favourite set for 2021 is, without a doubt, the 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery. I think it is a great set for several reasons. I’m a Space fan so the set immediately captured my imagination. The set was entertaining to build and I loved the trivia included throughout the instruction manual. As a teacher I saw a lot of potential and I have used the set several times in my classes. The set also looks great and is still on display in my living room.

Masters of Brickjitzu – 71741 Ninjago City Gardens

Brayden, the ambassafor for LEGO Ninjago Community Masters of Brickjitzu (who created the Ninjago Ten Years of Brickjitzu documentary) picked 71741 Ninjago City Gardens!

My favorite LEGO set is 71741 NINJAGO City Gardens for 2021. It is a beautiful set that really shows the growth and love put into NINJAGO for its ten year anniversary. It was also so much fun putting it together with my Dad. It was special because we used to do that with other NINJAGO sets when I was a kid.

New Elementary – 71741 Ninjago City Gardens

The absolute authority on new LEGO elements, New Elementary‘s pick is also 71741 Ninjago City Gardens!

The New E team have decreed Ninjago City Gardens to be the set of the year. And honestly, having Markus on our team was no bias – it’s just too good! But if you’d like a “less obvious” answer too, 71746 Jungle Dragon. Price, parts, fun to put together, the end model, as inspiration for other things. A nicer design than Water Dragon (which also felt a little overpriced).

Brickmitri – 21325 Medieval Blacksmith

French Youtuber Brickmitri’s pick is 21325 Medieval Blacksmith!

The overall building experience and building technics for the global design which is almost perfect. The old school style with the medieval theme that lot of people like and the fact that this is what’s the closest in my opinion to “true LEGO” : no IP, just bricks.
