LEGO Con 2022 is back, kicking off LEGO’s 90th Anniversary celebrations

!

LEGO have just announced that it’s livestreamed fan convention, LEGO CON is back in 2022, and we now have a date – 18 June 2022!

The event will be streamed live on 19 June 2022 at the following times, and will officially kick off LEGO’s 90th Anniversary celebration!

  • London – 5pm
  • New York – 12pm
  • Los Angeles – 9am
  • Melbourne/Sydney – 2am (19 June 2022)

You’re going to want to tune in this year, as LEGO have confirmed that they’ll be revealing a brand new theme coming to the LEGO Portfolio (my guess is Avatar?), as well as new reveals and content from LEGO Brickheadz, LEGO Friends, LEGO® Marvel®, LEGO® Minecraft®, LEGO Minifigures, LEGO Ninjago®, LEGO® Star Wars™, LEGO® Super Mario™ and more!

The inaugural 2021 LEGO CON was a bit of a mixed bag (check out my recap) with LEGO hyping fans up, only to show off sets and announcements that had already been leaked prior.

Check out the trailer below:

There are a few clues of what to expect – it looks like there’s an All-Star LEGO Masters (I hope to see a bunch of international LEGO Masters), as well as LEGO House content, LEGO Designers (of course), a guest from the Harry Potter Movies, Mojang (creators of minecraft), a Pixar Animation Director hosting a Masterclass (likely Angus Maclane, director of Lightyear and Wall-E fan designer), as well as features on AFOLs (adult fans of LEGO), and KFOLs (Kid fans of LEGO).

Based on the dates (19 June), I expect to show off some of the Summer 2022 LEGO sets, and hopefully have some announcements and secrets.

In the trailer, there’s a lot teased about LEGO’s 90th Anniversary, so I’m hoping that they’ll debut the 90th Anniversary set in LEGO CON, and ensure that it’s unspoiled. In the Youtube description, it’s billed as the kick off of LEGO’s 90th Anniversary Celebrations, and they promise exclusive reveals.

Last year’s LEGO Con was mostly lampooned by fans (despite it being billed as a family and kid-friendly event, and not something for hardcore/adult fans), so hopefully lessons have been learned, and we get some proper juicy reveals this year.

What do you think of this? Are you looking forward to any special reveals, and will you stream it live?

I won’t be watching at such an ungodly hour here in Sydney but I wonder if they will take the opportunity to announce the next Ideas Review winners.

I’ll be writing a full recap, so will hopefully capture all the highlights in the morning.

That would be exciting, but it may be more likely we’ll see the next set get revealed. Ideas are on a tear this year!

  2. Joel says:

Not gonna waste my time after last year. I can catch up on anything important that happened after the thing is done.

  3. James says:

2am.. wow. I’m thanking you in advance… i’ll be sleeping!

    • The event is catering to Europe and North America, where the bulk of LEGO consumers are and not a fringe market like Australia which is +10 hours ahead of the main audience.
