LEGO unveils 76215 Black Panther, a 2,961-piece life-sized T’Challa bust

LEGO and Marvel are going big this year with 76215 Black Panther, a massive life-sized LEGO bust of Black Panther/T’Challa!

Paying tribute to King T’Challa, this 2,961-piece Black Panther bust will retail for US$349.99 / AU$549.99 / £299.99, with a release date of 1 October, where it will be available exclusively from LEGO.com and your local LEGO Store.

Together with the 2022 LEGO Black Panther playsets, this bust is the perfect super-sized LEGO model to get you excited for the Black Panther sequel, Wakanda Forever which will arrive in theatres on 11 November 2022.

The set was designed by Mark Stafford, whose last “big” set was 71678 Daily Bugle!

First up, this LEGO Black Panther bust is absolutely massive, as it’s meant to be life-sized. The Black Panther bust measures 46cm high (18″), 52cm wide (20″), and 29cm (11″) lengthwise, and for added context, the box weighs just over 7kg (15.4 lbs), which is about the same weight as 10305 Lion Knight’s Castle – that’s a LOT of LEGO, so don’t let the 2,961 piece count fool you.

You’re really getting a few things here, a large helmet-esque build (much, much larger than 76165 Iron Man Helmet), and 2 hands that can be removable. The hands are about the same size as the Nano Gauntlet / Infinity Gauntlet, and you’re getting 2 of them!

Just to illustrate how big the bust is, here’s some lifestyle photos provided by LEGO, which do a great job of illustrating just how “life-sized” it is.

These build shots are also great, as there’s plenty of colour on the inside, so you’re not just getting a ton of black and grey elements in the set!

Here are some closeups of the details on the Black Panther mask.

This is first and foremost a display set, and there’s something oddly striking about the sheer size and ambition of the LEGO Black Panther bust.

It’s remarkable what can actually be done when models are scaled up like this, and it being life-sized is something few sets can claim to achieve.

It is expensive, but you’re getting a LOT of LEGO here, about 7kgs worth, and the more I look at it, the more this feels like an art-piece than a stock-standard LEGO display model.

The timing is also quite poignant, following Chadwick Boseman’s untimely death 2 years ago on 28 August 2020. LEGO sets usually have a development time of two years, so it seems that development of this set may have begun around the time of his death, and maybe this set was conceived as a tribute to the late actor, whose lives and on-screen presence has inspired many.

This is definitely something incredibly different from LEGO and Marvel, a step up from the Nano Gauntlet, Infinity Gauntlet and 76165 Iron Man Helmets. It’s not for everyone, but I expect hardcore Black Panther and Marvel fans who can afford this will find themselves with a one-of-a-kind LEGO sculpture.

I honestly can’t wait to build my set, and share my full review with you, so please keep an eye out for that in the coming days!

76215 Black Panther will retail for US$349.99 / AU$549.99 and will be available on 1 October 2022 from LEGO.com

It looks to good to be worth $349.99!!!
Is LEGO going to drop the price on it? Cause I’m on a tight budget right now.

It’s becoming more and more apparent that larger specialty sets are divisive in the Lego Community. I’m not sure why there is such animosity toward something that may not be for you, but that others may enjoy.

Some, like myself, would prefer to see these sets (they are a very small percentage of Lego’s current overall sets, of which there are literally hundreds and at cheaper prices) and offer something different.

This is a stunning set, and is for people who want that something extra, eg the UCS sets, the Titanic etc. I limit myself there as well, I have no interest in the Technic Caterpillar, Daily Bugle or Disney Castle, but don’t begrudge those who want and love those sets.

Personally, this one’s not for me, not because it isn’t stunning, it is, but because I limit myself to a few themes to prevent being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choice and sets that Lego offers.

I really like that Lego are creating something different and beautiful and centred on display as well as their hundreds of other play and display sets. People spend thousands on mini figures and buy instructions from Rebrickable, on massive and often unstable display sets, which cost a fortune in bricks.

It’s a niche market, let those who want to partake enjoy. It is a beautiful set.

Not for $350… LEGO could’ve done better!

  4. David Schneck says:

Would love to see more of these Marvel and DC full-size busts. Bring us Iron Man, Capt America, Hulk, Hulk Buster, Batman, etc.

  5. Ian Hazlehust says:

    COOL!

  6. Nathan says:

Its a cool set, but 550 bucks?? that just seems waaaay too much, despite how cool the model looks. honestly anything above 350 is too far in my opinion. however, pricing aside it is a very impressive build and a great model to honour chadwick’s iconic marvel character, just too hard to stomach the price…
