LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar 2022 – Daily Countdown

Hello and welcome (back!) to the Jay’s Brick Blog daily countdown of the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar!

This is LEGO’s fourth year of Harry Potter Advent Calendars, and similar to the 2021 version, there’s some sort of game included in the 2022 version as well!

Check out the HP Advent Calendars from 2021, 2020 and 2019 for references into past LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendars if you’d like a refresher!

This year, in addition to Harry Potter, I’ll also be counting down the Star Wars, Friends and Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendars as well, just like last year.

You can check out each countdown here

To make it easier for you to check out each day’s section, as this post is going to grow longer with every new window, all you have to do is click on the Day you want, and you will instantly jump to the corresponding section.

How does the daily advent calendar countdown work?

If you’re new here, I post daily updates on each window of the 2022 Harry Potter Advent Calendar. I usually post updates in the morning, but sometimes if things get too busy, updates will be posted in the evening. I’ll update this post each day, as I don’t really enjoy the practice of creating new posts for each day as it keeps it so much cleaner, so bookmark this post to come back every day!

Unlike other sites, I’m actually opening each window as I go, and I’ve been able to be relatively spoiler-free to be as surprised as I can get. All reviews, thoughts and reactions are live as we go along, there are no pre-planned photos or thoughts, unless I happen to be travelling or away from home.

Do note that I’m based in Melbourne, Australia (GMT +11) so we’re ahead of most of the world (except New Zealand) so to avoid spoilers, try to come back to this post after you’ve opened your window and built the daily model especially if you’re located in other time zones.

PS: If you’re planning to buy any LEGO for Christmas and would like to support the work I do blog, please use these affiliate links if you’re shopping on AmazonAmazon Australia or LEGO.com!

I receive a small commission if you purchase something, which goes a long way in paying for equipment and server costs, and of course LEGO I purchase for content. All my advent calendars (except for Guardians of the Galaxy) were purchased myself.

To follow along, it’s best to bookmark this post to check back each day. You can also find a link to this post from the home page via a link in the top navigation bar. If you’re on mobile, you have to expand the burger menu (the button with the 3 lines) to find it.

Here’s a look at the Advent Calendar with the front flap opened. The base has a swirly misty blue circle that looks like a Pensieve, and along each side are bricks with different symbols on them. We’ll find out right at the end how the game comes together and what the board is meant to do!

Here’s a look at the 24 windows of the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar. There are different symbols on each window, followed by an illustration of Dumbledore’s Office in the background.

You count upwards from 1 to 24, so don’t make the mistake of going backwards!

As always, the instructions are found on the inside of each window flap, so be gentle when opening them as you’ll need to sometimes refer to them for slightly more complicated builds!

Day 1 started off with a really tricky one, and my daughter had trouble this morning piecing this one together!

Without wasting any time, let’s get started with the 2022 Harry Potter Advent Calendar countdown!

Day 1

Day 1 starts off with a pretty challenging build of Ollivander’s Wand Shop, which was a little hard to guess. I initially thought it was 12 Grimmauld Place, but the curved windows out the front didn’t seem quite right, so Ollivander’s it was!

The tall curved windows that flank the entrance, and the sign are represented well at this scale, although I don’t quite know what the tall rod is meant to signify. Hopefully it becomes clear in the next few days.

Here’s a look at the LEGO Diagon Alley set which features a full-sized Ollivander’s Wand Shop, as well as one from Univeral Studios for reference.

The instructions for Day 1 are quite hard to follow as the build contains 33 parts, which is quite high for an Advent Calendar, so here’s a work in progress build shot to help you understand how some of the parts go together.

And here’s a look at the top view, and back of Ollivander’s. Make sure to face the masonry bricks the right way, we got it wrong the first time we put it together.

And here are the spares. Not too bad for Day 1, but I was surprised by how tricky the build was. Other than that, I think it’s a decent microscale version of Ollivander’s and I very much look forward to Microscale Advent Calendar builds, so I’d say we’re off to a strong start.

Check back tomorrow to see what we get in Day 2!

Day 2

Following on from Day 1’s micro-build, we have another tiny model, with Day 2’s Quidditch Goalposts. These are immediately recognisable as the three rings that Chasers attempt to throw Quaffles through, giving their teams 10 points.

The grey colour is a little odd, as I’m usually used to them being gold or at least tan, such as in the 2018 LEGO set, but these do the job really well at this scale.

Another neat detail is the inclusion of the house colours, Maroon and Yellow for Gryffindor, and Silver and Green for Slytherin, suggesting that this is a nod to the epic Quidditch rivalry between both houses.

And that’s Day 2 so far, a great duo of micro-builds that I’m loving. I would like a minifigure or character next, so hopefully we’ll see one on Day 3! Check back tomorrow to see what we get!

Day 3

On Day 3, right on cue, we get a Harry Potter minifigure. It wouldn’t be a LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar without Harry, and this version here depicts Harry in Chamber of Secrets, so he has short legs, and is in his Gryffindor robes.

It’s a fairly rare minifigure, as this particular variant of Harry has only appeared once, in a really expensive set 76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets, so fans who don’t have that set will be glad to get this in a relatively accessible Advent Calendar.

Here’s a look at his back where he has a a terrified face.

The inclusion of a tan 2 x 4 plate is interesting, and at first I thought it was just a minifigure stand, but I then realised, that Day 1 and 2’s build also had a 2 x 4 footprint, and these conveniently fit on the game board, which suggests that they’re pieces of the game!

That’s Day 3 so far, and now that we have the expected minifigure out of the way, I’m excited to see what else Day 4 and beyond brings! Hopefully more location micro builds!

Day 4

The 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar continues to impress with Day 4’s excellent rendition of a micro Whomping Willow! Like all the other models, the microbuild sits on 2×4 plate and cleverly uses brown corner slope pieces, and brown flower stems for the trunk and trees.

The inclusion of the light blue Ford Anglia, held aloft at an interesting angle by an angled bar is just brilliant, and makes for a perfect way to establish a sense of scale, as well as place this build as being from The Chamber of Secrets.

Outside of a plain LEGO Harry Potter minifigure, I have been really enjoying the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, and just how great the micro models have been. Seriously can’t wait for Day 5 and hope we get more of these wonderful micro builds!

Check in tomorrow to see what’s behind Door number 5!

Day 5

Day 5 of the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent continues to impress with this ingenious Chamber of Secrets micro model. Salazar Slytherin’s head is cleverly assembled using cheese slopes for his wavy hair. The use of a modified 2×1 brick with studs for his follow eyes are brilliant as well.

The Basilisk emerging from Salazar’s mouth is also brilliant, and creates a very dramatic effect.

Here’s a shot from the scene in Chambers of Secret that this model references.

Day 5 and I am truly spellbound by the quality of models so far, and just how well designed these micro-models are. This finally feels like the Harry Potter Advent Calendar maturing and coming into its own, and I seriously look forward to opening this calendar the most (along with Star Wars) among this year’s lineup.

Check in tomorrow to see what Day 6 brings, and if it can continue this exceptional run of models!

Day 6

Now we’re getting into fun territory! Day 6 of the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar gifts us a Moaning Myrtle minifigure, but this one is exclusive to this Advent Calendar!

The ghost of Myrtle Warren, who was infamously murdered by the Basilisk haunts the second-floor girls’ bathroom, where she’s often found crying or wailing.

The minifigure is really nice, with a more greyscale colour scheme that fits the Harry Potter ghost aesthetic much better, and she also has a dual-sided head with an alternate crying expression.

We had a moaning Myrtle minifigure previously in 2020’s LEGO Harry Potter Minifigures Series 2 which was much bluer, so this is a nice variant for LEGO Harry Potter fans.

That’s it for Day 6 so far. Good to see 2 minifigures so early on, and the fact that this variant of Moaning Myrtle is exclusive to this Advent Calendar makes this a particularly good day.

Now if we can return to the excellent microbuilds for Day 7 tomorrow, that would be swell!

Day 7

Right on cue with a different base colour, we’re now in the third film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban with Day 7’s excellent Knight Bus build!

The Knight Bus is a triple-decker magical bus that picks Harry up as he escapes Privet Drive (after accidentally inflating Marjorie Dursley like a balloon), and hops on it to get to Diagon Alley.

The build is unmistakeable, with the different levels captured well, and I also like the street lamp as well, which serves as a mini footpath/sidewalk.

The 2022 LEGO Harry Potter is showing so signs of slowing down and we get another terrific window and microbuild once again. Let’s see which Prisoner of Azakaban scene OR minifigure we get tomorrow for Day 8!

Day 8

Wow, the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent continues to impress with Day 8’s Dementor Attack At the Great Lake, which features a miniature scene where Dementors swarm across the Great Lake to deliver the kiss of death to Harry, Hermione, and Sirius.

It’s very simple, but captures the essence of the scene well.

I love the inclusion of these 2 micro-dementors, which were included in the massive 71043 Hogwarts Castle, and how they’re orientated to look like one is in flight, and the other is floating above the water.

That’s Day 8 so far, and safe to say, I’ve been spellbound by the quality of builds and scenes chosen so far!

Check tomorrow to see what we get in Day 9!

Day 9

We’re definitely starting to see a consistent pattern here, as we get a Sirius Black minifigure for Day 9, capping off the group of builds from Prisoner of Azkaban.

This Sirius Black minifigure is exclusive to this Advent Calendar. I’m not 100% sure where this particular outfit is from, but I think it may have been in his wanted poster, but if any Potterheads can chime in, it’d be appreciated!

Here’s a look at the back printing and his anternate face which has an angry/fierce expression!

An additional exclusive (so far) element is his Azkaban Prison number, which further leads me to believe that this is his outfit from the mugshot.

And that’s it for Day 9 so far, and what a great way to close off the Prisoner of Azkaban. If we’re following the series so far, it definitely suggests that we’ll get a Goblet of Fire build tomorrow with its own new baseplate colour. Check back in tomorrow to see what Day 10 will bring!

Day 10

Just as we expected, Day 10 gives us a Goblet of Fire build, the actual Goblet of Fire itself! The wooden goblet has blue flames emanating from it. It’s immediately recognisable, and sets off the tone for this cycle of Goblet of Fire builds.

A pleasant surprise is the inclusion of this printed tile, which has Harry Potter’s name scribbled on the burnt parchment, a nod to the dramatic scene where his name is drawn from the Goblet of Fire and he becomes the 4th champion of the Triwizard Tournament.

This is a brand new element and is thus far exclusive to this Advent Calendar!

A decent build that’s highly improved by the presence of the printed tile, building the anticipation of what other builds or references we might get in the next few days. Check in tomorrow to see what we get on Day 11!

Day 11

On Day 11 we get the Triwizard Cup, the trophy and ultimate prize awarded to the winner of the Triwizard tournament!

The model itself is a little plain, but captures the shape and translucent cup well, although it looks more like a fancy vase than a magical tournament trophy.

It definitely doesn’t look as mystical as its depiction in the movie.

I do wish we got the dragons depicted on the handles, as the handles on the LEGO model look very plain.

Day 11’s Triwizard Cup is probably the weakest design so far in the Advent Calendar, but again, at least its recognisable!

Hope Day 12 fares better. Check in tomorrow to see what we get!

Day 12

On Day 12, the halfway point of the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, we get He Who Must Not Be Named himself, Lord Voldemort to close off the Goblet of Fire builds.

He looks… incredibly goofy, with his forked tongue sticking out, and I believe this head and face print is new and exclusive to this Advent Calendar, as well as his dark green robes.

It’s both hilarious and partly disconcerting seeing Voldemort stick his tongue out like this.

Here’s a look at his back printing. If only his skirt piece has printed details too!

And that’s a wrap on Goblet of Fire – so far, it’s the weakest book/movie yet in terms of the builds, but for tomorrow, we head into the Order of the Phoenix! Check back to see what we get for Day 13!

Day 13

On Day 13, we start our foray into the Order of the Phoenix with the Room of Requirement! This micro build was one of the toughest for me to guess, and I suspect might elude some Harry Potter fans!

I believe the model takes inspiration from this shot, where you can see the floating curved pillars, and the statuette is meant to represent this menacing looking statue that Dumbledore’s Army uses to practice their spells while using the Room.

A tricky build to make out, but once you realise what it represents, it becomes another great build.

Come back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 14!

Day 14

Following on from yesterday’s Room of Requirement, on Day 14 of the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, we head to the Department of Mysteries for this micro-scale Hall of Prophecies!

The Hall of Prophecies with its towering racks of prophecies are represented with trans-blue studs, and it’s a decent enough representation of the climactic show showdown between the Order, Dumbledore’s Army and Death Eaters.

Here’s a reference image from the Department of Mysteries scene to jog your memory!

Not a bad model, and one that captures one of the more memorable scenes from Order of the Phoenix. can’t wait to see what minifigure we get tomorrow for Day 15!

Day 15

Wow! To close off the Order of the Phoenix builds, Day 15’s window gets us a Nymphadora Tonks minifigure! Tonks, as she is affectionately known is a member of the Order of the Phoenix, and is a Metamorphmagus, allowing her to shapeshift and change her appearance.

Tonks has been a relatively rare character, so it’s great that she’s available in this Advent Calendar. She’s only showed up twice previously, in the now-retired 75980 Attack on the Burrow, and 76408 12 Grimmauld Place.

To make this variant of Tonks even more awesome is her dual-sided head, which has her duck face! In Order of the Phoenix, she entertains the dinner table by taking the appearance of a duck and pig.

What a fantastic way to end the Order of the Phoenix arc, and I’m extremely pleased with Tonks! Tomorrow, we begin the Half-Blood Prince series, so check back to see what we get for Day 16!

Day 16

Wow, I definitely was not expecting to start the Half Blood Prince with a head sticking out of an armchair, but here we have Day 16 with Horace Slughorn in disguise as an armchair!

Once the Potions Master at Hogwarts, with a penchant for hanging out with gifted individuals, we get this hilarious build of him mid-transformation. He disguises himself as an armchair to avoid Death Eaters, until being discovered by Dumbledore.

Here’s the reference from the scene in question!

Horace even has a dual-sided head, with a more neutral expression.

This is such a fantastic start to the Half Blood Prince builds, and in some ways, kinda qualifies as a minifigure.

Can’t wait to see what we get tomorrow for Day 17!

Day 17

On Day 17, we get a crucial artefact from the Half Blood Prince, a pensieve. It’s a powerful magical item that allows users to review and store their memories in it, and in the movie/book, Dumbledore uses it to share important memories of Tom Riddle/Voldemort with Harry.

The build is simple, yet recognisable because of the trans-blue pool of mystical memory water.

That’s it for Day 17! I can’t wait to see which minifigure we’ll get in Day 18. Check in tomorrow to see who we’ll get to represent the Half Blood Prince!

Day 18

It seems fit to end the Half Blood Prince with the Half Blood Prince himself, Professor Snape! Day 18 gives us the Hogwarts Potions Master, which is another excellent addition to the high calibre lineup of minifigures we’ve been getting so far.

This Snape isn’t exclusive, as he’s previously been included in 76383 Hogwarts Moment: Potions Class and 76402 Hogwarts: Dumbledore’s Office but it’s still nice to receive him, especially if you don’t have either of those sets.

Here’s a look at his dual-sided head, which has back printing, and a dour expression.

And that’s it for Day 18 so far! So I’m beginning to wonder how we end the Advent Calendar. We have 6 more days remaining, and looking at the cycle, does this mean we’ll get builds and minifigures from Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2?

Check in tomorrow to see how we close out the 2022 Harry Potter Advent Calendar!

Day 19

On Day 19, we begin our foray into the Deathly Hallows Part 1 with another brilliant build – Hagrid’s flying motorcycle!

There’s a grey tandem seat which Harry occupies in the dramatic scene where the Order of the Phoenix take polyjuice potion to all look like Harry Potter, and fly towards The Burrow where they’re intercepted by Death Eaters.

This is a really cool build, and I love the waves (or clouds) beneath, which creates this dramatic movement effect, as well as the flames erupting from the back.

It’s a great start to the Deathly Hallows, and I’m very impressed by just how well this micro-build works. Check back tomorrow to see what we get on Day 20!

Day 20

Right on cue and a neat continuation of yesterday’s build is Day 20’s The Burrow microbuild.

Do note that I messed up the build in the photo, and forgot one more red roof piece for the back. Unfortunately, I’m now away for Christmas, and can’t fix it, so please build it properly!

The Burrow’s tall, narrow and wonky-looking shape is captured well in this model, and I especially like the micro trees which further provide a sense of scale for the build.

Can’t believe there’s only 4 more days left in the 2022 Harry Potter Advent Calendar! Check back tomorrow to see how we close off Deathly Hallows Part 1!

Day 21

Day 21 is pretty bittersweet, and to close of Deathly Hallows Part 1, we have Hedwig, Harry Potter’s snowy owl. Hedwig was brutally murdered by Death Eaters during the dramatic escape to The Burrow.

It hurt when I read Deathly Hallows in 2007, and I still think it was absolutely needlessly cruel for She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named killed her off.

We also get a spinning dice, which is used to play the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar game! It has printed decorations on a medium nougat crate, and spins on an axis.

On the flap, you can find a QR code which you can scan for instructions, or you can visit the LEGO website directly for instructions.

Here’s what the die symbols mean – do note you’ll need to finish the Advent Calendar and build all 24 game pieces to begin! I’m just glad the dice was integrated into a window, as opposed to dedicating an entire day to it like last year!

That’s it for Day 21! Only 3 more days left, so come back tomorrow as we embark on Deathly Hallows Part 2!

Day 22

It’s Day 22, with only 2 days left, the 2022 Harry Potter continues with the amazing builds with this incredible microscale Gringotts Wizarding Bank.

The facade of Gringotts, complete with the large columns are immediately recognisable, and I also love the dragon perched on top of the roof!

Here’s another look at the excellent Gringotts dragon design.

What a fantastic build, and it seems like the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar has no intention of slowing down, even as we approach the close.

Also, hopefully this Gringotts is a sign of things to come, and that 2023 is the year we get a large Gringotts Bank model to accompany 75978 Diagon Alley!

Only 2 days left! Check back tomorrow to see the next Deathly Hallows Part 2 build!

Day 23

If the pattern follows, Day 23 is the final build of the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, and boy, are we ending on a high note with this excellent Hogwarts Express microbuild!

The black and red locomotive that takes students to and from Hogwarts is rendered beautifully at this scale, and the designers also managed to add Platform 9 3/4 to it as well!

The scaling and parts usage is absolutely spot on here, and even at this micro scale, the curves and different sections such as the cab, and wheels are evident.

It’s also a nice nod to this year’s massive LEGO Harry Potter set, 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition, the biggest and most expensive LEGO Harry Potter set to date.

Tomorrow is the final day of the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, and it’s such a bittersweet moment that we’re finally here. With so many magical builds, I almost don’t want this Advent Calendar to end!

Nonetheless, check in tomorrow to see what we get, and for a wrapup of the Harry Potter Advent Calendar!

Day 24

It’s the finale of the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, and out of Day 24 window pops out the Hero of Hogwarts, and Gryffindor icon, Neville Longbottom. From his awkward beginnings as a quiet, timid boy, this Neville is all grown up, buff and wields the Sword of Gryffindor, which he pulled out of the Sorting Hat during the Battle of Hogwarts.

This Neville minifigure is exclusive to the Harry Potter Advent Calendar, and features a brand new and unique torso that features his Battle of Hogwarts outfit. Pretty classy of him to head to battle in a cool hooden cardigan.

Also happy to see the Sword of Gryffindor make a return – it’s a fantastic LEGO sword with rubies on the hilt and pommel.

Here’s a reference to Neville Longbottom at the Battle of Hogwarts, where you can see just how well the torso design matches his movie costume.

Conclusion & Final Thoughts

I can’t believe we’re finally at the end of the 2022 LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar, and to be honest, I did not want this to end at all.

It’s safe to say that 2022 is indisputably the best LEGO Harry Potter Advent Calendar ever, and I love the focus on all 8 films, as well as honing in on the two micro-build and one minifigure formula which worked incredibly well.

Now that the Advent Calendar is complete, you now have all the pieces to play the Harry Potter Advent Calendar game – you can find the rules on the LEGO website to learn how to play the game, which is pretty simple and suitable for kids.

With 8 minifigures (I’m counting Armchair Slughorn as one!), many of which are new and exclusive characters, this feels like really great value, especially for LEGO Harry Potter fans and collectors.

My favourite minifigure has to be Tonks!

The highlight have been the micro builds and models, which have mostly been really good. I love how well these little moments, locations and vehicles have been captures, and they honestly look good enough to display as key moments of the Harry Potter movies.

It goes without saying that the LEGO Harry Potter design team deserves plenty of praise and plaudits for an excellent Advent Calendar, that I think is the best one this year!

It’s going to be really hard to top, but I’m eager to see what they do next year! I hope to see these awesome micro build make a return, and for many more amazing minifigures.

Jay, I hope you know how awesome and respected you are! Through Star Wars and then Harry Potter advent calendars you’ve been our oracle to understand and appreciate many a build.
This year has been amazing for the micro builds, and I’m convinced they’ve responded to your reviews & comments over the last couple of years .
My boy is now 9 and I’ve admitted that I have a source, so he now asks me to “check with Jay” whenever we’re not sure/arguing about history!

  4. Rhéal Nadeau says:

I’m thinking the 8th character is Hedwig, not Slughorn. The colour of the base would support that.

Merry Christmas! And thank you, you saved me on several of the builds. Such a fun advent calendar!

  6. MARY says:

So g!ad I did not read these comments till today..the telling of Neville Long bottom would have ruined the ending of this fantastic calendar!!! You are so right!

  16. Tonia says:

Merry Christmas Jay. Thanks for doing your blog. This is the second year I’ve had the HP calendar and you’re a great help when I just can’t figure a build out, and your references back to the builds in the films are interesting to read. I didn’t get the whomping willow but Lego posted it to me and it arrived before Christmas even with the post strikes here in the UK. Merry Christmas, see you next year!

  17. Adriana says:

Hi Jay. Merry Christmas! Thanks for taking us on this journey with you. I must say, I share your excitement over this year’s HP calendar. I think this is my favorite ever, and we get the Star Wars ones, too. I can’t get over how good these micro builds are. I want to work for Lego!

  18. Trudy Seeley says:

This locomotive may be my favorite build! The whomping willow and the Knight bus are close, though. I’m really going to miss this morning ritual.

  19. Carol S says:

You forgot the tail of the beast in your pics. 🙂 Thanks for the great advent blog posts!

  21. ollie says:

thanks for doing this. my son loves doing the morning builds.

  22. Bill says:

Hagrid’s flying motorcycle has a mistake, the sidecar is on the wrong side. British motorcycle sidecars just like the cars have the driver on the right hand side

    • Amy says:

I mentioned this to my dad and he pointed out that for bikes made before a certain date the sidecar could be on either side. Do we know if Sirius had a vintage bike? Lol. Potential loophole!

Happy Christmas everyone, we’ve loved doing the calendar and checking the blog. I used to buy the Star Wars ones for my husband before we had kids but we’ve not had any for about 5 or 6 years. This was the first one we bought for the children and I think we might be doing it again! The 6 year old has already built the Hogwarts Express (second hand 2010 edition 4841) that we got him!!.

  23. Shmorkie13 says:

Isn’t it called a dreidel? It’s a Jewish Hanukah spinning top

  24. Caz says:

Apart from Harry, all the characters are ones who now dead. Not including Slughorn but he’s appearing as a sofa!

  25. Alivia says:

Hey I did day 21 cuz I’m away that day so it’s Hedwig!🦉

  26. Peter says:

OMG I did the same thing with the roof!!!

  27. MagickChicken says:

I’ve been buying two calendars every year the last couple, and I’ve never gotten the HP one because the previous year’s has always seemed a bit lame. Now I’m really regretting skipping it this year!

  28. Peter says:

I added the other wheel to the side…didn’t see it on the instructions…but seemed weird without it.

  29. Angie Newbill says:

Just wanted to say thank you for the daily advent calendar explanations. My kids have HP and GOTG and we check your blog every morning after they open their calendars! It is so helpful and your comments are excellent. So thank you and happy holidays!

  30. Brian says:

Even though the instructions are not clear I am sure that the front left “wheel” should also be mounted on Hagrid’s motorbike. Even after mounting this I have one spare “wheel”. The model looks a lot better on the left hand side with it mounted.

Love the blog – even when you wait until late in the evening (for you) to post and you have not posted by the time I get up in Denmark. :).

    • Lisa-Jane says:

I’ve tried to turn mine around to match this one but there’s nothing to attach it to – the only hole is underneath the motorbike on mine. What have I done differently?

      • Linda Vincent says:

I have the same problem. I think I’m missing a piece that has a right angle. I’m going to look through all my spare parts to see if I can find one.

    • Marc says:

I did the same thing when I realized I had two spares of the same piece. Looks more complete so I imagine that’s how it was always intended.

  31. Gemma says:

This is my sons first HP lego calendar, and he is loving it. He is only 5 so hasn’t been allowed to watch all the films. He is really enjoying finding out about the story around each piece, and the clips you add are a brilliant way to show him what I mean without the whole film! (and to refresh my memory!) Thank you!

  32. Ginny Park says:

Snape and Tonks have the same hairpiece, just in different colors!

  33. Aaron/Vincent says:

For day 3 it’s actually Harry from The Sorcerer’s Stone. I noticed the graphics on the instruction windows and the graphic for day 3 had what looked like a crystal on it so I figured day 3’s Minifigure was from sorcerer’s stone and that’s how I figured it was going by 3’s in order of the movies. Beige=Sorcerer’s Stone Green=Chamber of secrets Yellow=Prisoner of Azkaban Dark brown=Goblet of fire Dark beige=Order of the phoenix Purple=Half Blood Prince Blue and Orange=Deathly Hallows I and II respectively. Super excited for tomorrow’s build!

    • Felix says:

      *ahem*
when reading this, pretend “sorcerer’s” is instead “philosopher’s”

      • Aaron/Vincent says:

I’m from the US so the movies and books were released here as Sorcerer’s Stone instead of Philosopher’s Stone to make it seem less boring for the series’ younger audience. Either way of saying it is fine.

    • Lee says:

Yes, it does confirm this on the product page on the lego website.

  34. Jesse R. says:

I’m torn so far on my favorite between Slughorn and the Knight Bus. I just love the simplicity of the Knight Bus but the creativeness of Slughorn mid-transfiguration is awesome too!

  35. Gina Istifo says:

On Day 15 we did not get Nymphadora Tonks. Our advent calendar is faulty. We got the figure from day 18 twice. Has this ever happened?!

    • April Schneider says:

      Tonks transformed into Snape? Ha!

    • MagickChicken says:

Lots of times. After the 24th, pull your tray out and make sure the 15th isn’t misplaced somewhere in it. If you still don’t find it, contact Lego customer service and they’ll take care of you, post-haste. They’re really great.

  36. Elle says:

The Slughorn build is so fun!!!

  37. Peter Mostachetti says:

OMG the Slughorn Couch is officially my favorite build ever!! Lol

  38. Becky Klein says:

the anchors on the table of contents at the top don’t seem to be working for me.

  39. Danielle says:

I am so glad I found you page! This has been fun for me to follow along with you 🙂 I looked you up because on my day 9 I got a duplicate of moaning myrtle and wanted to see if others had that same issue.
Can’t wait to do this again next year! 🙂

  40. Andrius says:

Pretty sure that Tonks’ torso is also an exclusive, right?

  41. Hillary Marthaller says:

Thank you so much for putting this site together! Each morning we construct our mini figure, and if it’s not obvious, we have a fun family guessing game and then check your site for the answer!

  42. Great post and blog as usual.
I found not really interesting the Day 13 and Day 14, but actually, there are not so many special places to consider in the Order of the Phoenix.

I like the subgroups of three days referencing the entire Harry Potter Series.

  43. Christine Hopper says:

Day 9 was not Sirius Black! I am so disappointed

    • Amy says:

What did you get instead? We got the hall of mysteries on day 10 but then the goblet of fire today, so they clearly just got put in the wrong way round. I know a few people have also got doubles but it sounds like LEGO are really good at sorting these out.

  44. Lee says:

This is my first Harry Potter Lego Advent Calendar and I’m loving it! I think they’ve put extra effort io making the builds amazing because they’re game pieces they need to be iconic and recognisable. I do rely on your blog to figure some of them out, so many thanks!!

Ps. You fixed day 12’s title but it still links to day 11 🙂

  45. Heather Eberting says:

I thought it was the ministry of magic

  46. Liane says:

This blog helps us so much! Room of Requirement is a tough one. The only one I thought differently on was Day 8 – I thought it was the second task from Goblet of Fire??

  47. Caitlin says:

I opened my tray to check for duplicates and I got an extra day 13 and day 16 and I’m missing my day 5 and day 22. I reached out to lego for replacements and they misunderstood me and sent me a new day 5 (yay) but then another day 16. Which is hilarious once you know what day 16 is and I’m not mad about ending up with 3 of them but I’m sad that I won’t get day 22 because it’s a cool one. I did try to contact lego again but I never heard back lol. Thanks so much for opening these every day and helping us to figure out what all of the builds are like Ollivanders and the Room of Requirement 🙂

    • Caitlin says:

Just in case anyone at Lego reads these comments I have an update. I did hear back from lego today and they are sending me door 22 as well! They were so helpful so if anyone else has problems with not getting the right bags definitely contact them 🙂

  48. Russell Chapman says:

Well done on the Room of Requirement. I was with the rest of the internet in thinkng it had to be the Ministry but in wrong colours, but your screenhot from the movie makes it clear.
    Keep it up.

    • Jay says:

Yeah, it was a tough one! The pillars kinda gave it away as the Ministry of Magic looked nothing like it, especially the colours so that was easy to rule out

  49. Lynda says:

Thank you for this page. I had no idea what days 1 and 13 were! This is my fourth calendar and by far the best in my opinion!

  50. Taire says:

(you put day 11 as the title for day 12).

I believe when Voldemort is basically attacking Harry in the graveyard there is a scene where he sticks out his tongue. I think it’s where we first see that it’s forked.

  51. Shannon says:

I got another whomping Willow on day 11!!

    • Jay says:

Oh no, if you get a double up, you can reach out to LEGO’s customer service and they’ll be able to fix it up and send out the build that you’re meant to get!

      • Marion says:

Can confirm! We got a double last year in the Lego Friends calendar. They sent me the correct pieces quite quickly 🙂

  52. Seeley Trudy says:

Triwizard Cup is OK – I too wish we had dragons incorporated as handles, though. What will the 3rd day for this book be?

  53. Gayle says:

    Merry Christmas 🎄

Very much enjoying this years Harry Potter advent- and your site.

    ✌🏽❤️

  54. Brenda Domogauer says:

Dear Jay, thank you again for helping me enjoy my birthday month, and my morning tea, and my calendar!!!! I could not find your site when we started on day one…was super confused by the build…thought it was the shelves with the prophecies …was so glad to find your blog on day three, and learn it was Olivander’s! This years calendar has really been awesome, bit more difficult than in the past but most enjoyable! Thank you for all your help. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

  55. Amy says:

We seem to have been given the wrong pieces today!! I think it might be a different build from a different day. What should be do?? My 6 year old isn’t very happy!

    • Jay says:

Oh no, sorry to hear that! If you reach out to LEGO’s customer service, they’ll be able to send you the one that you’re missing!

      • Amy says:

My husband has done some detective work and found out that the set we got today should have been behind door 14, which is just below 10, and it has the same sort of colours, so hopefully they are just mixed up, but we aren’t going to cheat to find out!! If it is missing, I’m sure LEGO will replace it.

        • Amy says:

Good news, LEGO Harry Potter fans! It turns out they were just flipped around and we got the goblet of fires today (day 14). It was the hall of prophecies we got on day 10. Hopefully no more mix ups!!

  56. Noah says:

Never mind you already said that.

  57. Noah says:

I believe the Sirius’ outfit is from his wanted poster. It is rather obscure, but if you look closely you can make out the shirt pattern.

  58. Amanda says:

I am so excited you are doing this, our dogs ate the box so we have no idea which packet is for what day or what we’re building – now we do!!! This is great.

  59. Leahaida says:

This has been so helpful. Thank you!

  60. Anna S. says:

Thank you so much for your amazing posts! I would have been lost on day 1 without you. I think that maybe the dementor that’s in the ground is supposed to be on the clear block to show that it’s flying?

  61. Regina says:

I enjoy following your blog on the Harry Potter Calendar so much and always look forward to your family update!
However, the Dementor’s kiss is not the kiss of death – they suck out a person’s soul which is considered worth than death in the Wizarding World. 😉

  62. Celeste says:

I had no idea what Day 1 was supposed to be until I read this! Everything else has made sense to me but that one. Thank you!

(Also it’s the Black Lake, not the Great Lake!)

  63. Charlene Rains says:

You forgot the transparent piece that makes the 2nd dementor seem to be floating.

  64. Sur says:

Thank you so much for doing this.. I was so confused by the wand shop. Looked like a coffee percolator. Doing better now but happy to follow you.

  65. Barry Ziessen says:

I love your reviews of the calendars, a joy to read 🙂

  66. Amber says:

My Dementor one has clear studs that are not mentioned in the instructions lol. Anyone else get them?

    • Celeste says:

You only need one clear stud (mine also had an extra). It’s to use on the Dementor on the water to make it appear as though it is “floating.”

  67. Carol says:

I love this Advent calendar!! You have been so helpful since Day 1. So much easier to use your pictures…thank you!

  68. Trudy says:

I love the Knight Bus! I didn’t recognize it from the instructions, but the minute I was up to the top level it became obvious! The street lamp also helped.

    • Charlene says:

Same here! The whole build I am thinking “what is this??” Then I put the last purple piece on and squealed when I realized what it was.

  69. Anonymous Advent Calendar Opener says:

I think you get a minifigure every third day.

    • MSB says:

The advent calendar is divided into 8 sections, 3 days per Harry Potter movie. The first 3 days are the sorcerer’s stone, where we get Harry. The following 3 days are The Chamber of Secrets, where we get Moaning Murtle. I REALLY hope we get Sirius Black as a Minifigure in The Prisoner of Azkaban section!

  70. Heidi says:

I love that you are doing this!!! Thank you so much! I was having so much trouble figuring out what the pieces all were. This is such a cute idea.

  71. MSB says:

Thank You so much, Jay, for doing this! Your website really helps me with this advent calendar!

  72. MSB says:

Sorry, I meant to leave a reply to someone. I didn’t mean to post this as an actual comment. Oop my bad:)

    • MSB says:

Sorry, it is actually hard to post comments on this website. For some reason, it keeps saying I didn’t post something so then I post it again, and there are 2 of the same comments!

  73. MSB says:

That would be cool, but you would need an instruction manual anyways so wouldn’t that give you the spoiler before you’re even done?

  74. kirsten says:

I opened the box, mixed them up and put them in a reusable advent calendar. I am starting to regret that decision. We can’t figure out what they are.
I will keep checking here to compare. Thank you!

  75. Alison says:

Hello! This is my first time having a Lego Advent calendar and I’m loving it so far, I have this page bookmarked so I can check to make sure I’m putting them together correctly. Ollivander’s was tough! I was wondering, is it normal to have so many extra pieces? This last one had 4 or 5 extra pieces… Would be cool if there was an extra build you could do after everything is opened with just the extras. Thanks for your blog!

    • Jay says:

Hey Allison, glad to hear that you’re having a great time with your first LEGO Advent Calendar!

It’s normal to have extra pieces, especially for smaller bits like studs, tiles or cheese slopes, so don’t worry!

  76. Sp00n says:

Came here to work out what day 1 was. Thought it could be the Leaky Cauldron at first.
I used the spare round 1×1 from the Whomping Willow to lift the right hoop on the quidditch goals as the front 2 are supposed to be slightly different heights.
The Whomping Willow build is the best micro build, the Ford Anglia sets it off perfectly. Any HP fan will recognise it instantly!

    • Ginny says:

I was thinking that the three Quidditch hoops should all be different heights, but didn’t make a move to change anything until reading your comment. Thanks for the idea! Looks much better now!

  77. Brenda says:

I have a feeling it’s a rain gutter on day one.

  78. MBroussard says:

I think the theme for 2022’s Harry Potter advent calendar is Headmaster’s Office. Do you agree?

  79. MSB says:

I think the setting for 2022’s Harry Potter advent calendar is Headmaster’s Office. Do you agree? I liked how last year’s advent calendar stuck to one theme if that makes sense. I feel like this one has a mixture of themes.

  80. Trudy says:

I think the whomping willow is adorable. I did have 6 pieces left over. Black wheels, branch, wedge, square, round, & the clear piece for mounting car. It may be my favorite so far.

  81. Debbie says:

    Hi!
Could the build from day 1 not perhaps be Borgia & Burkes? Would explain the choice of black and grey tiles.

My 4th year going through the calendar with you and I’m enjoying this one the most so far.

    • Marion says:

It would also fit with the Chamber of Secrets movie better, since Harry visits Borgin &Burke’s at the beginning, but not Ollivanders

      • Nekras says:

The first 3 are from the first movie. That’s why they have the tan 2×4 brick. The second 3 are from the second movie, hence the green brick. The next one should be from the third movie and I guess this will go on to the eighth movie, 24 windows in total. 🙂 so it is Ollivander’s, that is the only one possible from the first movie. 🙂

  82. Tonia says:

I got 2 day 11’s instead of a whomping willow. Very disappointed. Hope it’s not another day 11 tomorrow!

  83. Diana says:

Whomping willow, does it has like a gazillion spares? 7 tb exact? 😂 or did I miss something? hahaha

  84. Diana says:

Whomping willow, does it have like a gazillion spares? 7? 😂😂😂😂

  85. Yury says:

Btw, where are the instructions for the board game? Has anyone found them?

  86. Amy says:

So glad you cover these because we could not figure out what we were making! Anyone else think it’d be cool if instead of 24 mini projects, you made a 24-part project and didn’t find out what you were making until you were done?

  87. Anon says:

I am prettty sure its supposed to be harry from the philosophers stone since the door had the stone on it representing book 1 so while it was originally from a chamber of secrets set theyve re-purposed it.

  88. Alexa says:

Chasers try to throw the quaffle in the rings* Sorry your blog has been so helpful and fun but as an avid HP fan, I couldn’t help but say something hahaha

  89. izzaminion says:

Chasers dude! The chasers score, the seekers catch the snitch!

  90. Erin says:

I’ve opened Day 1 & 2 but the wrong Legos are in both of them. I’m quite disappointed but may open them all the put the Legos in the right places.

    • Amy says:

Similar problem here! Day 1 was right, but day 2 was definitely not. Figured out I had a duplicate with day 9 so used those instructions. I think we will just have duplicates of that particular one. Not worth reporting for me but sounds like a pretty common problem for years.

    • Jay says:

Ah, I’m sorry to hear that. The elements might sometimes get mixed up or the inner box gets flipped around.

    • Kate says:

My daughters set had the wrong legos too, I opened the whole box, slid out the tray holding all the legos and turned it around and put it back in. Now they’re in the right places.

  91. Emma Steele says:

Your Day 1 photos really helped my 7 year old son – thank you! We’ll re-visit if we get stuck again – thanks again 👍

  92. Charlene says:

Looks like the base of each figure matches the color on the door. Using that, it looks like we’ll have Harry tomorrow.

  93. Clare C says:

Thank you – this is my boys first Lego advent calendar and he went running downstairs on day 1 and was in tears saying there were no instructions and no idea what it was (nor did I). But a quick google and found your page… amazing thank you. We didn’t even realise the instructions were in the door.
Also, it looked like, there was a black line near the bottom but your pictures assured him it wasn’t.
    Thank you !

  94. Charlie Hatt says:

You saved me big time with the wand shop!
On the 2nd, I had moaning myrtle in mine! Although the picture was of the quidditch goalposts.. hoping on ‘moaning myrtle’ day I will get the goalposts rather than a second myrtle 😂

  95. Trish says:

An instruction guide from Lego that is larger than a postage stamp would solve the problem of many screaming kids completely destroyed on the first day build!! An hour later and Jays Brick Blog saved our night. Whew!!

  96. Kathode says:

I had no clue what Day 1 was supposed to be before reading this post. (And it’s why I came here, ‘cause you always do a great job with your Advent calendar countdown.) I found it rather tricky to assemble as well. If there weren’t a photo of it on the back of the box, it would’ve been even more indecipherable than it already was.

I think the black thing down the side is a drain pipe, as seen in this photo:

    https://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2017/01/30/19/3CABE79200000578-4173196-image-m-80_1485806344881.jpg

  97. Jaynine87 says:

Glad I’m not the only one that struggled with this build! It might be discouraging if this is someone’s first lego calendar

  98. Stephanie says:

thank you for posting this. it was extremely helpful being able to look at a partial build and being able to see bigger pictures

  99. KB says:

If you end up with the Hohwarts Express for Day 1, gently open the box and turn your case around. Some of us, it’s in backwards and the days are off. If you do this, it will put day one back where it’s supposed to be, but you’ll have opened day 23 ♥️

  100. Seamus says:

Thank you for posting this Jay, it got me out of a fix at 6am this morning when my two sons each presented me with their bag from door 1 ; the diagram inside the door flap was a bit indecipherable! I’ll no doubt be back tomorrow . Cheers.

  101. Greg says:

Thank you Jay! We had no idea what it was or how to build it!

  102. Nicole says:

My son was confused and disappointed because he got the Hogwarts Express today, which he built using the picture on the front cover of the box. I hope that’s the only mistake with our calendar!

  103. Nicole says:

My son was disappointed because he got the Hogwarts Express instead of Ollivander’s Wand Shop today. Hopefully that’s the only mistake with our calendar.

  104. Trudy says:

This one is a bit tricky! I wouldn’t have guessed what it was, either, but now I see it.

  105. Nick Gaston says:

This one took me a little while to identify, but once I realized what the icon on each door represented, I looked at the Diagon Alley set and immediately recognized it. I love the element they used to represent the round sign in the front of the shop.

  106. Scott says:

My daughter’s Day 1 had no bricks included in the Day 1 slot. Have you heard of anyone else having this problem?

  107. Lisa Carey says:

Thank you! I was stumped with that one – but also so happy that the first build was difficult!

  108. Brandy says:

Thank you for this explanation! We could not for the life of us figure out what this was supposed to be! 😂

  109. Joe says:

It was hard to guess. Thanks for the help! My daughter and I will follow along with you each day. Merry Christmas!

  110. Billie Knottingham says:

My daughter has the pieces for the Hogwarts Express in Day 1, but the instructions of Ollivander’s. Pretty confusing for her

  111. Chris says:

Thanks! We couldn’t guess what it was.

  112. Dan says:

It’s definitely Ollivanders…you can tell by the rainwater pipe on the side.

    Great start Jay!

  113. Tom n H says:

excellent write up. My daughter had trouble too. Handed over to me and it took a bit to sort out. Fun little build in the end!
Thanks for working out what it was – never would have got a shop front. But now you’ve shared the pictures it all makes sense.
    We’ll be back tomorrow.

  114. Alexandra says:

I think it’s Borgin and Burkes from Knockturn Alley!

  115. Annika says:

I thought it could be part of ministery’s main hall. It has also same vibe!

  116. Al says:

I’m so glad you’re here to explain. We were completely stumped by this one and couldn’t work out what on earth it was meant to be!

  117. Franklin says:

Is it really ollivanders , cause the building gave me a Borgin and Burkes vibe.

  118. maverick says:

i got the star wars advent based on episode 5 and the summer vacation special
