Magical LEGO Sleeping Beauty’s Castle MOC celebrates 100 Years of Disney

It’s a big year for Disney as the House of Mouse celebrates its massive 100th Anniversary milestone. Disney has been such an inspiration and a huge part of many people’s lives, and is almost synonymous with animation and theme parks.

To celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary, one of the most prolific and LEGO Disney builders in the world Martin Harris (aka @bricksnaps on Instagram) has conjured up a magical LEGO MOC of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle.

The design is inspired by the Sleeping Beauty Castle, located in the heart of Disneyland California, and is considered the OG of all Disney Castles.

To inspire you this week, I was given the opportunity to share some photos of Martin’s incredible LEGO creation, which made its LEGO Convention debut at Atlanta Brick Con several weeks ago.

Speaking to Martin, I asked about why he was inspired to take on Sleeping Beauty’s Castle?

He said that he wanted to “celebrate 100 years of Disney with the very first Castle, and it was also a fun challenge because it’s often referred to as the small one, compared to the Florida one.”

“It’s uniquely quaint and charming, and I wanted to showcase that in LEGO form. I almost did the Disneyland Paris castle, which is also Sleeping Beauty’s castle! Aurora was my daughter’s favourite princess when she was younger”.

“At my very first LEGO convention in 2015, I built a small scene with Sleeping Beauty and her wheel, which is the same on in this build”.

It’s unknown how many pieces are in Martin’s LEGO Sleeping Beauty Castle as he primarily builds freehand, but according to him it’s “lots”!

It’s a huge model, with the footprint measuring 5′ x 4′ (152 x 121 cm), and is about 3.5′ (106cm) tall.

It weighs 211 lbs (over 95 kgs!) and there are approximately 12,000 1×2 round plates used in the build, to get the curved wall textures right.

It took Martin about 2 months plus to build the LEGO Beauty Castle, and the process begun immediately after his massive Encanto House build, which you might have seen previously.

If you want to see more, you can check out and follow Martin’s Instagram @bricksnaps, where he’ll likely post about where his next convention will be.

Martin does intend to keep this one assembled for a very long time, and if he had the opportunity, would love for this to sit in a window of a Disney property, or be lent to the right Children’s Hospital for children to enjoy.

So yeah, if you work with Disney, you know where to get in touch with Martin!

Hope this inspired and perked up your Monday!

It’s going to be a MASSIVE year for LEGO and Disney, and you can now order 40622 Disney 100th Celebration Brickheadz, ahead of 40619 EVE & WALL-E, 40620 Cruella de Vil & Maleficent and 40621 Moana & Merida which will be released in March 2023.

Looking forward to what other LEGO Disney sets are to come later this year!

Special thanks to Martin for sharing these images and for shedding more light on his incredible model. See more of his work @bricksnaps
