List of every LEGO Ideas set coming in 2023 and beyond [February update]

Update: Check out the latest list of LEGO Ideas sets in production which has some new entries!

With yesterday’s reveal of 21339 BTS Dynamite, the 47th LEGO Ideas set so far, I can now update this running list of every LEGO Ideas set currently in production and beyond.

The LEGO Ideas pipeline is continuing to fill up, and earlier this month, we received the results from the Second 2022 Review round where the Red London Telephone Box and The Nightmare Before Christmas were greenlit.

This means that there are 11 future LEGO Ideas sets currently in various stages of production, and plenty to look forward to depending on your interests and passion points.

It’s only February but 2023 has been a great start to the LEGO Ideas theme with the stunning 21338 A-Frame Cabin selling out in the US (it’s on backorder).

Looking ahead, here are the next LEGO Ideas sets that are set to be released in 2023 and beyond. I’ve compiled a complete list of what LEGO Ideas submission have been approved – click on these links to jump to a specific section!

Are there more licensed LEGO Ideas sets than original Ideas?

Oh, and one of the main criticism you read online is that LEGO Ideas is completely overwhelmed by licensed pop culture sets, or movie/TV-show inspired designs.

I’m here once again to refute that with numbers and graphs. At this current stage, the number of unlicensed sets actually outnumber licensed sets 6 to 5, so this is a healthy sign that LEGO Ideas is still a great incubator for creative ideas and not solely the domain of pop culture-driven sets, although there’s nothing wrong with the latter.

A-Frame Cabin – released 1 February 2023

After a year in development, 21338 A-Frame Cabin released on 1 February 2023 to terrific fanfare. The unique and aesthetically-pleasing design was incredibly well-receive and has cemented the A-Frame Cabin as one of the best sets of 2023 so far, and a fan-favourite LEGO Ideas set.

Check out my review of 21338 A-Frame Cabin to see more and read my thoughts on it.

21339 BTS Dynamite – releasing 1 March 2023

21339 BTS Dynamite was officially revealed yesterday, and will become the 2nd Ideas set of 2023, and the 47th overall.

The set reimagines KPOP sensation BTS as LEGO minifigures on the set of their hit music video, Dynamite, in all its pastel-coloured tones.

The set has been quite divisive with traditional and legacy AFOLs who are not aware of BTS and just how popular they are in South Korea, Asia and with younger fans, but otherwise has been received extremely well by fans of the KPOP supergroup.

Wherever you stand on the set, it’s a great thing that LEGO Ideas has the capability to stretch into so many areas and passion points, and this set will undoubtedly be a huge commercial success and draw in many new LEGO fans into our wonderful hobby.

Keep your eyes peeled for my review!

Red London Telephone Box

Announced in early February 2023, the Red London Telephone Box by Bricked1980 has been confirmed as a future LEGO Ideas set.

Depicting the iconic Red Telephone Boxes that were once ubiquitous across the United Kingdom, this looks like a really interesting display model that would appeal to those familiar with these Red Phone boxes.

With the advent of smartphones, these Red Phone Boxes are slowly being phased out and more of a novelty, so this in itself is quite a lovely tribute to the icon that has become part of British identity.

Approved: 9 February 2023
Best guess release date: March 2024

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Perhaps one of the most highly anticipated licensed LEGO Ideas set, Simon Scott’s The Nightmare Before Christmas was also greenlit at the same time as the Red London Telephone Box in early February.

This gorgeous model depicting Jack Skellington and Sally based on Tim Burton’s cult-classic movie has all the hallmarks of a great LEGO Ideas set with an elaborate, imaginative design and an iconic Disney character.

The fan design is also incredibly huge, and here’s a look at fan designer Simon Scott, posing next to the model he designed. The final LEGO Ideas set will almost assuredly be modified for stability and pricing purposes, but it’s not hard to get excited about this one, especially if they release it between Halloween and Christmas.

Approved: 9 February 2023
Best guess release date: November 2024

Tribute to Galileo Galilei (GWP)

Tribute to Galileo Galilei is set to be the next LEGO Ideas gift with purchase (GWP), and was voted in on June 2022 as part of the Ready, Set, Go Stem fan vote.

LEGO usually likes to introduce the LEGO Ideas GWP around May and June, and it makes sense to launch a highly anticipated GWP in May, before the June release window to encourage people to spend.

Approved: 14 June 2022
Best guess release date: April 2023

Hocus Pocus – The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage

Hocus Pocus – The Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage by fan designer TheAmbrinator surprised (and delighted) many when it was approved in July 2022, and this has all the makings of a sleeper hit if done right.

The fan design has plenty of minifigures, and details in the Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage, which should make for a great build, as long as they keep the price fairly accessible, but I expect this to be on the same level (if not slightly smaller) than Home Alone.

With a resurgence of interest in Hocus Pocus thanks to the Disney+ sequel, LEGO unfortunately missed a timing window to sync up with the premiere of Hocus Pocus 2, but I can absolutely see them earmarking this for an October 2023 launch, just in time for Halloween.

Approved: 12 July 2022
Best guess release date: October 2023

Viking Village

The Viking Village by fan designer BrickHammer received a second lease of life, having won the LEGO Ideas x Target fan vote in August 2022, and this is going to be a cracker of a set, especially for fans who have been clamouring for more LEGO Vikings, especially after 31132 Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent.

The Viking Village should hopefully arrive in the second half of 2023, and I’m expecting this to be a hugely impressive set, but not something too huge and over the top.

Best guess release date: July 2023

LEGO Insects

Announced alongside 3 other LEGO Ideas submissions, LEGO Insects by hachiroku24 sees the return of brick-built creatures, something not seen in the LEGO Ideas line since 2015’s Birds and a really fascinating and clever collection of LEGO bugs.

These designs are just gorgeous, and I’m waiting to see what LEGO does to jazz and tighten the designs up.

Approved: 25 October 2022
Best guess release date: May 2023

The Orient Express, a legendary train

Also part of the massive batch of 4 LEGO Ideas set approved in one review result window, we have The Orient Express, a legendary train by LEt.sGO, the first ever LEGO Train to be part of the LEGO Ideas theme.

This is actually a licensed product, and the timing was a huge part of this set being greenlit as the Orient Express celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2023.

I think LEGO are going to go all out with this and deliver a proper (and expensive) train, and I think they’re eager to make things right after the Hogwarts Express was panned by LEGO Train enthusiasts for its lack of compatibility with tracks.

Approved: 25 October 2022
Best guess release date: October 2023

Tales of the Space Age

Tales of the Space Age by john_carter was also part of the unprecedented 4-set review results batch is the epitome of simplicity and one of the most gorgeous fan designs I’ve ever seen.

I’m so glad it made the cut and because of just how good the fan design is, I think LEGO can speed and ramp up production of this, and I think we might see it in June 2023, or maybe even earlier.

I’m also glad that we’re getting more inexpensive LEGO Ideas sets, and I hope this one does really well.

Approved: 25 October 2022
Best guess release date: June 2023

Polaroid OneStep SX-70

And last but not least, we have Polaroid Onestep SX-70 by Minibrick Productions, which was also part of the most recent review results round, where 4 sets got approved.

The Polaroid brand has enjoyed a resurgence in the last few years, as analogue and all things “retro” have come into vogue, and this has widespread and mainstream appeal beyond just LEGO or photography enthusiasts.

This feels like it’s tailor-made to be the Q4 holiday season set, and I hope it’ll be at a really accessible price, and deliver a fun building, feature-packed experience.

Approved: 25 October 2022
Best guess release date: January 2024

TBD LEGO Ideas x Target – What does Family mean to you?

Update: Your Family Tree by Bulldoozer has been selected as the next LEGO Ideas set!

Best guess release date: late 2023/early 2024

LEGO Ideas x Dungeons and Dragons

In early January, LEGO Ideas officially revealed the winning design of the 50th Anniversary Fan Vote with Dragon’s Keep: Journey’s End by BoltBuilds beating the other 4 shortlisted designs!

It will now go into development, and fans will have to wait until 2024 when Dungeons and Dragons celebrates their 50th anniversary to see the final model, and how LEGO manages to adapt this terrifyingly beautiful build!

This is likely one of the most anticipated LEGO Ideas sets announced so far, and will have D&D and LEGO Castle fans excited for more dragon-infused LEGO fantasy goodness.

Best guess release date: March 2024

Looking ahead

Up next, we have the results of the Third 2022 LEGO review period to look forward to, with results expected in Summer 2023 (Northern Hemisphere). Check them all out here.

This one looks like a tough one, but personally, I think we’ll see COMMUNITY and/or THE WIZARD’S RETREAT make the cut from that round.

2023 is shaping up to be a really exciting year for LEGO Ideas with such a diverse lineup, and a nice mix of fan designs, licences and even price-points.
