Australian LEGO Sales: The LEGO Movie Edition – April 2014

April 6, 2014 By Jay Ong Leave a Comment

With The LEGO Movie out in cinemas, Australian toy retailers are keen to jump in on the bandwagon while hype is at an all time high for everyone’s favourite building blocks toy. Here’s a roundup of LEGO sales in Australia for the month of April 2014. If you saw the movie and wanted to pick up (literally) some parts of the movie for your own collection, this month is a pretty decent time to do so.

Update 24/4: Myer has another 20% off sale till the 27th. Toys R Us gets 20% off as well.

UPDATE 10/4: Myer now has a Buy 2 get 3rd toy free sale, and Target enters the fray with a 20% off toys sale.

Toys R Us (Catalogue: 23 April – 13 May)

TRU Sale April May

Toys R Us has a sweet 20% off all LEGO sale till the 13th of May. Highlights include LEGO Cuusoo Minecraft sets (The Forest, The Nether, The Village) and Back to the Future Delorean. Apparently there are Curiosity Rovers available as well but I can’t find them online. These sets seem to be extremely popular with scalpers, so I urge you to get them immediately before the scalpers do. Additionally, Toys R Us Australia has The LEGO Movie exclusive set, Rescue Reinforcements which I couldn’t find on the site. I’ve definitely seen them in-store at Westfield Chadstone. At 20% off, the set is a steal. Good luck and happy hunting!

Myer (Catalogue – 2 April – 27 April 2014)

Myer 5 Day LEGO Sale April

These 20% off sales just keep on coming. Myer has 20% off all toys till the 27th of April. Interestingly, they also have 50% off clearance items and I picked up several Star Wars Series 1 Planets for only $4. This was in the Melbourne CBD Myer, so I’m not too sure if this is a national thing.

Myer Buy 2 Free 1

In case their current LEGO Movie sale weren’t enough, Myer has a Buy 2 get your 3rd toy free sale going on till Sunday, 13 April which is one of the best deals possible, if you’re able to find 3 items at the same price point which gives you a 33% discount. An interesting development is that Myer now stocks LEGO Cuusoo sets. Pictured here is the shelf from Myer Melbourne CBD where they had all 3 Minecraft sets, the Back to the Future Delorean AND the Mars Curiosity Rover. These haven’t been readily available at Australian retail stores so it’s cool that Myer have picked them up. Not sure if they’ll show up in other stores.

Note: this doesn’t stack with their existing catalogue offers. The cash register will calculate the best deal and apply it.

Myer LEGO Sale April

Myer has selected sets for about 20% off in their latest Toy Heroes catalogue which runs till the 27th of April 2014. All the LEGO Movie sets are approximately 20% off.

Current prices and highlights in the sale include:

Friends 41035 Heartlake Juice Bar – $29.95 (down $10)
DC Super Heroes 76012 The Riddler Chase – $39.95 (down $10)
LEGO Movie 70803 Cloud Cuckoo Palace – $24.95 (down $5)
LEGO Movie 70809 Lord Business Evil Lair – $79 (down $20)
LEGO Movie 70807 Metalbeard’s Duel – $39.95 (down $10)
LEGO Movie 70808 Supercycle Chase – $59.95 (down $10)
LEGO Movie 70805 Trash Chomper, 70802 Bad Cop’s Pursuit, 70804 Ice Cream Machine – $32.95 (down $7)
LEGO Movie 70812 Creative Ambush – $49.95 (down $10)

David Jones April LEGO Sale

David Jones (Till 13 April 2014) David Jones has a pretty great 20% sale till the 13th of April on all LEGO. Useful if you want to pick up any non-LEGO movie sets. I like flat 20% off sales – no fuss and you won’t need to travel to different stores just to enjoy some sweet LEGO discounts. No dramas!

Big W LEGO Sale April

BIG W (Catalogue – 3 April – 9 April

Big W have a pretty great pre-Easter sale going on which includes  a ton of LEGO. The catalogue wasn’t on Lasoo and I only so  happened to be in QV, Melbourne and decided to pop into Big W to check out if they had anything special. Turns out, they did have a sale for LEGO Movie sets and they’re quite good. Big W already sells their LEGO sets below RRP and they decided to discount them even further making them one of the best places to shop for your LEGO Movie sets. They have other themes on sale as well, but they’re not really noteworthy.

LEGO Movie 70803 Cloud Cuckoo Palace – $24(down $4)
LEGO Movie 70801 Melting Room, 70800 Getaway Glider – $15 (down $4) [Cheapest in Aus for now!]
LEGO Movie 70809 Lord Business Evil Lair – $75 (down $13)
LEGO Movie 70807 Metalbeard’s Duel – $39 (down $10)
LEGO Movie 70808 Supercycle Chase – $59 (down $16)
LEGO Movie 70805 Trash Chomper, 70802 Bad Cop’s Pursuit, 70804 Ice Cream Machine, 70806 Castle Cavalry, 708011 Flying Flusher– $28 (down $7) [Cheapest in Aus for now!]
LEGO Movie 70812 Creative Ambush – $49 (down $9)

Will have to recommend either Big W or Myer for your LEGO Movie set needs. Myer’s sale lasts a bit longer so you can sit on it or spread your purchases out but for the smaller vehicle sets (Trash Chomper etc), I suggest picking them up at Big W before the 9th. The smaller sets at $15 are also a great pickup from Big W since they’re practically the cheapest that I’ve seen them before and I doubt we’ll see better prices till (if we get them) the clearance sales, but seeing how well The LEGO Movie is currently doing in Australia – I can just see the sets flying off the shelves.

Target (Catalogue 10 – 23 April)Target Easter LEGO SaleTarget finally show up with a respectable 20% off of all toys sale till the 23rd of April. Great if you want to pick up single items and a blanket sale is always great.

Will keep this page updated for any April related LEGO sales if any new ones crop up (Target, I’m looking at you). Happy shopping!

Did you know that Fiona, the @lego Friends florist Did you know that Fiona, the @lego Friends florist is one of the first minidolls depicted with Down Syndrome?

Fiona works at the flower stall on Unity Street from 41732 Friends Downtown Flower and Design Stores

She is described as being 'good at crafts and decorating, and knows all the flower species by name.'

It's World Down Syndrome Day today and I think it's remarkable and very important for LEGO to enhance the perspectives of children on neurodiversity, physical disabilities, ethnicity and mental health, as they've done with the LEGO Friends reboot.

Here's my review of one of the most anticipate @LE Here's my review of one of the most anticipate @LEGO Disney sets - 43217 'Up' House ahead of its release on 1 April 2023!

This set is a dream come true for many Pixar fans, and we finally get a cute, compact and great looking Up House.

It has plenty of references to the movie, and Carl's everlasting love of Ellie, his late-wife which will absolutely delight fans.

Despite a strong lineup of minifigures (including an awesome Dug mould), the set's incredibly expensive pricetag (US$59.99/AU$89.99) doesn't feel like good value, especially with Kevin nowhere to be found.

Here's a look at 40587 Easter Basket, an incredibl Here's a look at 40587 Easter Basket, an incredibly affordable and attainable GWP that's available from 16 March!

It will be a GWP when you spend US$70 / €70 / £65 from 16 March - 9 April.

Lots of things to like here, as the design is cute, and the build is surprisingly technical, and it blends both Botanical and Animal construction.

Also like that the redemption period stretches into April, so if you have the Indiana Jones, Disney 100, or Guardians of the Galaxy sets on your radar, it should be an easy one to qualify for!

Such a breath of fresh air to get such a substantial GWP without having to spend hundreds of dollars. More like this please, LEGO!
