Bidding farewell to the models at the LEGO House Masterpiece Gallery (2022-2023)

This is the Masterpiece Gallery at The LEGO House, one of the standout exhibits and spaces at the home of the LEGO Brick.

It’s a massive gallery with high ceilings and is dominated by these 3 massive dinosaurs, one made out of Duplo, one made out of LEGO and one made out of Technic. LEGO’s big 3 of sorts.

It’s an awesome space to be in, and along the edges of the cavernous room, you’ll be able to find LEGO MOCs and builds from some of the most talented builders across the world, who are handpicked to display their designs at the Masterpiece Gallery.

It’s an incredible honour to have your builds be displayed here, to inspire the hundreds and thousands of visitors that stream through the LEGO house, and is a wonderful showcase of the talents within the LEGO community.

Today is AFOL Day, part of the Skaerbaek Fan Weekend, and the LEGO House typically switches out the displays on this day as Skaerbaek attendees visit The LEGO House for all the festivities of AFOL Day.

I’ll be in Billund very soon (for dinner at Skaerbaek on Saturday, and all Sunday), as well as the 2023 LEGO Fan Media Days, so I’ll be really excited to see the new 2023-2024 Masterpiece Gallery models.

I took these photos last year during my visit to Billund, but never got around posting them, so I thought it’d be a great time to celebrate all the builders and MOCs that have been on display at the LEGO House in the 2022-2023 season.

Check ’em out below!

Joss Woodyard (Leviathan, Dragon and Spirit of the Woodlands)

Let’s start with something close to home, with Joss Woodyard (@jayfa_mocs on Instagram), winner of LEGO Masters Australia Season 4! It was great to see his Leviathan on display here, and there’s also an immense sense of pride seeing a fellow Aussie being honoured like this.

Also on display by Joss is a dragon, and Spirit of the Woodlands

Marius Herrmann (Pagoda and Dragon Tree & Vulgrim)

Marius Hermann (@steponabrick on Instagram) is an immensely talented builder and his massive Pagoda and Dragon Tree was easily one of the most mind-blowing LEGO MOCs I’ve ever seen in person.

The details are just sublime and it looks stunning from every angle.

Jessica Farrell (Dragon’s Hoard and Magic Fairy Garden)

Jessica Farrell’s Dragon’s Hoard perfectly captures a sleeping dragon lying on a bed of treasure, and I really liked the pillars giving it a sense of scale. Beautiful composition.

Joachim Klang (Iconic Objects)

I forgot to snap Joachim Klang’s bio (@_derjoe_ on Instagram) but on display are his Iconic Objects made from LEGO Bricks. Also the title of his 2021 book.

Interestingly, LEGO have produced a life-sized Atari 2600 set, and a Polaroid Camera is also in the works. Will we get a walkman or toy train set next?

Gwyneth Kozbial (The Beatles Album Covers)

Fans of the Beatles can enthrall themselves with Gwyneth Kozbial’s (@whitegoatworks on Instagram) The Beatles album covers, which feature some incredible texture and use of colour.

George Panteleon (Busts and Rolex Daytona)

George Panteleon’s (@zetovince on Instagram) busts were really eye-catching as well, especially the Joker and Asterix and Obelix ones.

Just incredible mastery of curves with these.

This is probably still cheaper than an actual Rolex Daytona.

Flynn De Marco & Richard Broad (The Rite of Spring)

One of the larger displays at the Masterpiece Gallery last year was Flynn De Marco & Richard Broad (@trickybricks on Instagram)’s The Rite of SPring, a huge whimsical model full of colour!

Damian Thomas (Triceratops Skull)

Another jaw-dropping display was Damian Thomas’ (@damianthomas7393 on Instagram) Triceratops Skull, one of the most insane pieces I’ve ever seen. It makes fantastic use of mostly Technic panels, and I am still wondering how they all stick together and still look so realistic.

Very fitting model as it’s surrounded by the massive T-rexes in the Masterpiece Gallery.

Barbara Hoel (Living with LEGO Builds)

With the eye for realistic life-sized objects that will take you a moment to realise that they’re made of LEGO, Barbara Hoel’s (@barbara_hoel on Instagram) Living with LEGO Builds were a feast for the eyes, showcasing just what’s possible with some bricks and a whole lot of creativity and talent.

Aran Jitsukawa-Hudson (Enter the Brick)

Aran Jitsukawa-Hudson (aka @cole_blaq on instagram)’s simple yet poignant series exploring the different ways to transform the humble 2×4 brick was really cool. Not to mention his Metallic McFly!

Anuradha Pehrson (Pyke Castle)

I was really impressed by the scale of Anuradha Pehrson’s (@anucreates_anupehrson on Instagram) Pyke Castle, which features towering cliffs based on Pyke Castle, the seat of House Greyjoy from Game of Thrones.

The rockwork, and cliffwork and how the seamoss/seaweed look like they’re enveloping the towers make for a great aesthetic.

Alexis Dos Santos (Mortal Engines Salthook & TinTin Rocket)

Fans of steampunk will enjoy Alexis Dos Santos’ (@alexis.d.s on Instagram) take on the Mortal Engines Salthook with its distinctive aesthetic.

Alessio Mandanici (Ordralfabetix House & Rafiki)

Best use of LEGO Bananas ever! Alessio Mandanici’s (aka alego alego) take on Maison d’Ordralfabétix, aka Unhygienix from Asterix and Obelix was such a joy to see.

This Rafiki taking a selfie was also sublime and there’s just such fine technique used for the sculpting, especially to make it look so emotive.

Sarah Von Innerebner (Beauty and the Beast Library)

And last but not least we have this immaculate library from Beauty and the Beast, designed by Sarah Von Innerebner, a massive and sprawling build paying homage to the iconic Disney movie.

The scale, and sense of colours and immense quantity of books as well as tiny little architectural details are just jaw-dropping to see in person.

And that’s it for the LEGO House Masterpiece Gallery class of 2022-2023!

I cannot wait to see the 2023-2024 Masterpiece Gallery exhibitors in person when I get to Billund in a couple of days!
