40591 Death Star 2 GWP

Here’s an official look at 40591 Mini Death Star 2, a cute micro-scale version of the Death Star 2 from Return of the Jedi. It will be free when you spend US$150 / AU$240 / £140 / €150 on LEGO Star Wars sets.

It looks to be a great little display, and I also like the inclusion of the 40 Years of Return of the Jedi commemorative printed brick!

5007840 Return of the Jedi 40th Collectible

LEGO.com has also given us a clear look at 5007840 Return of the Jedi 40th Collectible, which will be free when you spend US$85 / AU$140 / £140 / €85 on LEGO Star Wars.

30654 X-Wing Starfighter polybag

The 30654 X-Wing Starfighter polybag will also be bonus free gift when you spend US$40 / AU$65 / £TBD/ €40 on LEGO Star Wars.

It’s a really neat little polybag, and you can check out my review to see more of this fantastic polybag.

[US, UK, EU and Canada only] 5x VIP Points on selected LEGO Star Wars sets in-store

This is North America only, but you can also get 5x VIP Points on selected LEGO Star Wars sets from 1-7 May 2023, BUT it’s in-store only.

LEGO Star Wars Day 2023 VIP Rewards

LEGO VIPs can also redeem their points for a whole raft of rewards such as this limited edition numbered print of the UCS X-Wing Starfighter for 3,500 points.

There’s this great digital poster for only 10 points, featuring the history of LEGO X-Wings.

And you can redeem 150 points to create your very own LEGO Star Wars comic book.

In some countries, you can enter a sweepstakes/raffle to win a limited edition Sterling Silver R2-D2 minifigure, with 50 points for each entry. Unfortunately, it seems that Australia and New Zealand aren’t included in this!

  1. Graham says:

Bit disappointed the 40591 Mini Death Star 2 & 5007840 Return of the Jedi 40th Collectible either aren’t available in Australia or have sold out (but are available on eBay at more than 5x inflated prices). Neither are noted at the bottom of the Lego Star Wars 2023 page so I assume it’s the former. Would like 75356 Super Star Destroyer, 75352 Emperor’s Throne Room & 75257 Millennium Falcon.

    • Jay Ong says:

They were available, but the 5007840 Return of the Jedi 40th Collectible sold out very quickly just after midnight, suggesting that there were very low quantities of that available.

40591 Mini Death Star 2 was also available, but it took about 2 days for it to go out of stock.

With 2x VIP Points, and a really solid selection, it’s not too surprising that the May the 4th offer was really popular. Unfortunately, you need to be quick to secure your sets these days, especially if the sets are highly regarded, well-reviewed or highly anticipated by fans.

  2. Steve says:

$240 for the mini dearhstar just looked on usa lego.com says spend $240 or more you posted $150 or more

  3. Thom says:

    Hey Jay!

    Love reading your blogs! 😀

Quick question: do you know if you qualify for the Death Star GWP if you buy non Star Wars sets?
Context: Was waiting for a nice GWP to buy a couple of modular houses. This one seems awesome, but I do not plan on buying a lot of Star Wars.

    Cheers,

  4. LJ says:

Why are they having offers on the 5th of the month for the first 7 months of the year?
We’ve already missed 4 of those 7 months and for only one day is a bit weird. Also what has this got to do with Star Wars. I know May 4 th is very soon but this promotion seems unthought out.

    • RocEZBricks says:

In the US our dates are organized MM/DD/YYYY, while in other parts of the world, it is common for the dates to be organized DD/MM/YYYY. So in a non-US calendar, the offers goes from 1/5/2023- 7/5/23. Hope I cleared up some confusion.

      • Thrudd says:

To confuse things even more – science, engineering, medical use YYYY-MM-DD-HH-MM-ss, and we don’t use AM PM, that’s for the business types that can’t count past 12 on their fingers =P

  5. Kristen says:

Do we know the price point for the GWPs?

  6. Stephen Cowling says:

There was rumors of 5x VIP points on certain sets, but I don’t see that in the article. Hoping that it wasn’t cancelled. They weren’t necessarily larger sets but seemed to be sets that may not have being selling as well, like the Vader and Obi duel set.

  7. Jim Mortimore says:

Hey man, great articles. Super informative.
Question….I seen that the Fang Fightet/Tie Interceptor set was to come out May 1st as well, but dont see it in your article. Any idea?
    Thanks
    Jim

    • Jay Ong says:

It hasn’t “officially” been revealed yet.. although it’s already been sold in Target in the US.

When it comes up, I’ll update the list, but technically, it’s still an unannounced set!

  8. Trevor Skidmore says:

    Endor Speeder
    Battle of Endor Heros
    Pirate Snub Fighter

  9. Monty says:

    Hi Jay,

Quick question, which sets will be exclusive to Lego and not go to retail – I tend to purchase those and the smaller sets (where the probable retail discounts are less during these to get over the line) ?

    Cheers !

    • Monty says:

Sorry should have said, I’m an Aussie (as that can make a diff sadly).

    • Jay Ong says:

UCS X-Wing and Brickheadz should be a timed LEGO exclusive. They UCS X-Wing will eventually hit retail stores (like Target/Amazon) a few months later.

I’d say same goes for the midi Super Star Destroyer.

In Australia, it seems that Myer currently has most of the Star Wars sets as retail exclusives (they got the Mando N-1, and Republic Fighter Tank), so I’d keep an eye there.

    • Ben says:

It’s standard dating practice throughout the world. 1st of May through 7th of May (DD/MM/YY

  10. Cameron Russell says:

This is my first Lego Star Wars day since I became an AFOL, and I even took the day off to wait in line at my Austin Lego store. I loved the Lars kitchen set from last year, but it wasn’t something I would have built and displayed. The Death Star II is a cute add on that I will put up and the plans/coin are kinda neat. I wish the UCS X-wing had more of a nod to RotJ in it’s additional bits, or the UCS set had been a vehicle more iconic to RotJ. I’m picking between 1 cool X-wing or (for the same price) 1 throne room scene, a super star destroyer, and 5 brickheadz. I think I get more bang for my buck and display real estate for the latter.
