Thanks to a LEGO Safety Certificate, we have our first, but very grainy look at the upcoming Chinese Zodiac animal for 2022 – 40491 Year of the Tiger!
This photo was found on a Safety Certificate, uncovered by Promobricks, giving us a look at this upcoming gift with purchase that should be released close to Chinese New Year, which begins on 1 February 2022.
Update: The LEGO Year of the Tiger GWP will be available from LEGO.com from 10 – 27 January, and will be free with purchases of US$85 / AU$169 / £85. There’s no Canadian price yet, but hopefully the page updates soon.
Check out the offer details in the dedicated Lunar New Year pages below. You’ll have to scroll down slightly:

This will be the 8th LEGO Chinese Zodiac set, following on from 2021’s Year of the Ox. This has been one of LEGO’s longest running GWP themes, which began all the way with 2015’s Year of the Sheep.
The LEGO Year of the Tiger set will go really well with the 2022 Chinese New Year sets, which will be released on 1 January 2022.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the Year of the Tiger set to add to my LEGO Chinese Zodiac collection – which brings us closer to the completed set of 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals!
Tiger promo already out, spend $88 AUD at myhobbies.com.au to get for free
Hello, My Name is Nicholas I am just wondering I heard a rumour that the Tiger promo is coming out on the 10th of January am I correct?
Hey Nicholas, unfortunately there isn’t any confirmation yet. The promo usually gets released closer to Chinese New Year, but as there’s no January 1 gift with purchase this year, there could be a high chance we see it earlier, so the 10th is absolutely plausible.
There was actually a Lego Year of the Snake you’re not including. I own it. It’s rare but counts! 😊
Really liked the delightful Year of the Sheep but all the ones since have been a bit overly cartoony IMHO, especially with those huge eye pieces and all of them adopting similar postures.
I’ve only got the Year of the Ox set so far, but am interested in collecting up the others. I might be eBaying them gradually, assuming of course they’re not going for silly money.
Did you say that this is likely to be a GWP? I can’t remember whether the Ox was or not.
Yes Ox was a GWP in store at Myer I recall
