LEGO 40532 Vintage Taxi gift with purchase (GWP) details revealed!

Fellow LEGO Recognised Fan Media, The Brothers Brick has given us a glimpse of the upcoming LEGO gift with purchase for February – 40532 Vintage Taxi!

In their review they’ve also revealed the qualifying details for the LEGO Vintage Taxi – the set will be available (while stocks last) for free with purchases of US$200 / UK £200 / CAD$200 / AU$279 from 28 January to 13 February 2022 on LEGO.com or your local LEGO Brand Retail Store.

The gift with purchase should be available from midnight your time – check out the LEGO Promotions page for more details

A perfect addition to the Modular Boutique Hotel, and a great incentive to pull the trigger on it if you haven’t got one!

You can see more photos and details on their review but the 163-piece set comes with an old-school taxi, a street section, and what looks like the Doughnut Thief, who you may recall from the 2020 Police Station Modular, who seems to have cleaned up his ways and has made a career change from illicit sugary treats/news publishing to transportation.

Either that or he’s using this as a front to deliver doughnuts to high-flying guests staying at the Boutique Hotel.

Remember this guy?

Looking at the box design with the shared sand green strip, and the design of the taxi, and just how well it fits into the Boutique Hotel, it’s clear that LEGO probably meant for the Vintage Taxi GWP to be released alongside the Boutique Hotel at launch on 1 January, but supply chain delays probably meant that they couldn’t make the timing work.

At US$200 (and likely over AU$300 here in Australia), which is coincidentally the same price as the Boutique Hotel, the Vintage Taxi is one of the most expensive GWPs yet, so LEGO are clearly trying to push people up the value chain.

I just feel for those in the UK, as the threshold is just a little bit more than the price of the Boutique Hotel @ £179.99 which means you’ll probably have to add something else to your order.

Not too sure I like this trend of extremely expensive GWPs… but as demonstrated in November 2021, LEGO know how to play the game to squeeze as much money as they can from their fans.

So yeah, if you’re thinking of making any large purchases on LEGO.com… I’d probably hold off till after 28 January. At the very least, when the LEGO Ideas Globe launches on 1 February, the set will likely get you over the line for the Vintage Taxi.

Also, if you were waiting on any of the new January 2022 releases, it’ll be a great time to get something back with the purchase, assuming you can hit the very high threshold!

If you’re considering some big ticket purchases, check out my review of the Modular Boutique Hotel or LEGO Ideas Globe for some suggestions!

Do you think the Lego certified stores will offer this eventually? They always have a lower threshold than lego.com.au.

    • Jay says:

Yup, both the LDC and LCS offered it. Was apprehensive on timing as they sometimes get stuff late, but unfortunately the threshold was pretty similar

  2. Lena says:

Hey Jay! Just a small note, you list the Canadian threshold as $200 CAD, but it’s actually $255 here! Love the post though

  3. Oscar Reynolds says:

It’s a shame you can’t just buy this set by itself, seems like a nice £15 set to build with my partner 🙁

  4. Andy says:

Unfortunately I think another reason the threshold has been raised is also due to people simply reselling the GWPs.

The taxi is nice, and maybe the only reason to be cheerful about the price hike of Assembly Square in the U.K.
