LEGO 75275 UCS A-Wing Starfighter speeds into the LEGO Star Wars universe

At last, one of the most awaited Original Trilogy starfighters receives the long over-due treatment in 2020!

Fans of The Return of the Jedi will rejoice as LEGO has finally unveiled 75275 UCS A-Wing Starfighter.

This 1,673-piece model celebrates the diminutive and sleek starfighter, just in time for Star Wars Day (2020).

The UCS A-Wing is priced at US$199.99/AU$329.99 and has a release date of 1 May 2020, and will be available online from LEGO.com and LEGO Stores if you live in a country where they’re still open.

The first thing that struck is the gorgeous box design. LEGO have gone for a more subdued and minimalist box design than previous UCS releases, eschewing illustrations of space/planets for a clean, black theme which highlights just the display model.

I also like cool little flourishes like the Rebel logo above the nameplate, and overall, I really like how premium, and mature it looks.

The A-Wing itself is stunning, and for a relatively low price of US$199.99, this places it very close to the price range of large SW sets like the Tantive IV.

A-Wings aren’t very big ships anyway, designed for speed and precision and are adept at outrunning the fastest Imperial ships like the TIE Interceptor.

The iconic arrowhead shape of the A-Wing is captured beautifully at this scale, which has allowed the designers to really focus on getting the angles and proportion just right.

Coming in at 1,673-pieces, it makes it the smallest Star Wars UCS set ever, and unlike the Star Destroyer or Millennium Falcon, you shouldn’t have too much of a problem finding space to display it.

The UCS A-Wing measures 10.5” (27cm) high including display stand, 16.5” (42cm) long and 10” (26cm) wide.

Here’s a look at the interiors of the cockpit.

The new cockpit canopy is a relatively new part, making its debut early this year, so it’s nice to see it being used for more sets.

I really like the design of the thrusters, and how great the entire model looks like from the back.

One A-Wing Starfighter pilot is included – I’m not sure if he’s named, but he could be Arvel Crynyd who you may remember as the pilot who kamikaze’d into the Super Star Destroyer bridge to disable it in Return of the Jedi.

So there you have it, the debut of the long-awaited UCS A-Wing. I do like that the price isn’t too prohibitive for what is quite a detailed model with all the UCS trimmings.

A-Wings aren’t as exciting as X-Wings, or Star Destroyers, but being a new model, this should make it quite a no-brainer purchase for LEGO UCS Star Wars fans to expand their fleet.

The LEGO UCS A-Wing will be released on LEGO.com on 1 May 2020.

With the upcoming Republic Gunship model, I really hope that lays the foundation for LEGO to explore more of the Prequel trilogy. I believe outside of an AT-AT and AT-ST re-issue, we’ve pretty much exhausted the OT for ships.

I just really want an Anakin’s Jedi Interceptor, or a rebooted Naboo Starfighter UCS model that does justice to those builds, or even a supersized Venator.
