LEGO 76271 Batman Gotham City Skyline is a love letter to Batman: The Animated Series

2024 is set to be a huge year as Batman celebrates its 85th anniversary, and LEGO are starting the celebrations with a bang, with the newly revealed 76271 Batman: The Animated Series Gotham City Skyline!

This massive 4,210-piece LEGO tapestry of Gotham City is designed to hero every tower, building and iconic locations from Batman: The Animated Series, and is set to be released on 1 April 2024 for LEGO Insiders, ahead of a 4 April general release date.

76271 Batman Gotham City Skyline will retail for US$299.99 / AU$499.99 / £259.99 and will be available exclusively from LEGO.com or your local LEGO store.

This set is just jaw-dropping, for fans of the Caped Crusader. LEGO have taken inspiration from the LEGO Art theme, and pumped it full of steroids (like Bane!), to produce a stunning, textured tapestry of the Gotham City skyline.

Just look at the set from the front, and like any great two-page comic spread, is packed with details, upon details for Batman fans to pore over and admire.

Some of Gotham’s most iconic locations such as Gotham City Court, Arkham Asylum, and not to mention the classic Batwing and Bat Signal are here, as well as tons of Easter Eggs to discover.

Let’s see some of the details up-close!

The set comes with 4 minifigures, and fans of Batman: The Animated Series will be delighted to finally get a TAS Batsuit, as well as Catwoman, Harley Quinn and of course, the Clown Prince of Crime, Joker himself.

Oh and yes, this version of Joker absolutely counts as a Mark Hamill minifigure, as he voiced one of the most iconic versions of the Joker!

2024 is shaping up to be a big year for fans who grew up with Batman: The Animated Series, as we’ll likely get updates (or if we’re lucky, episodes!) of Batman: Caped Crusader, the spiritual successor to the beloved series, helmed by Bruce Timm. Unfortunately, it will be without Kevin Conroy (who voiced Batman/Bruce in TAS) as he passed away in 2022.

For an entire generation of men in their 30s, 40s and 50s, we grew up watching Batman: The Animated Series, and LEGO are clearly going hard at this demographic as part of their all-out onslaught on adults.

The LEGO Gotham City Skyline set is absolutely massive, measuring 76cm (30 inches) wide, and 41.6cm (16.3 inches) tall as you can see here in this lifestyle photo supplied by LEGO to provide a sense of scale.

This set is designed to be hung up on a wall, or will likely need a large buffet table to display it, and show off your love of all things Batman.

I just really love the sense of texture that they’ve given Gotham, and how the buildings pop out slightly from the canvas, as well as the dramatic use of colour and contrast to convey that Gotham truly is a living, breathing character in its own right.

76271 Batman Gotham City Skyline won’t come cheap, and the US$299.99 / AU$499.99 / £259.99 will put it out of reach for a lot of people, but you know, I’m glad that a set like this exists.

It’s a refreshing take on a Batman LEGO set that strikes a balance between being something truly iconic, looking so familiar and yet, has never been done before.

It’s a bold move, but at the same time, looking at it, it’s just such a pleasing thing to look at aesthetically, and I can see this being a really satisfying build and display model as well, if you have Bruce Wayne levels of budget when it comes to buying LEGO.

76271 Batman Gotham City Skyline will be released on 1 April 2024 for LEGO Insiders, and will be available exclusively from LEGO.com or your local LEGO Store.

  1. Sandra says:

It looks great, but too big and way too expensive. Getting sick of these large over priced sets.

  2. Reg says:

I’m normally not big on sets that aren’t minifigure scale but this looks amazing!! A visual masterpiece.

  3. Andrew says:

I’m not a Bat-fan, and I know nothing of the animated series, but this set is stunning and I must have it.

  4. S.J says:

    never really gotten into DC
But this thing looks amazing – I love it!

  5. Sean says:

I could see the (freely available) instructions being useful if I ever want to build a micro scale art deco city. I wonder how some of the individual buildings would look alongside the micro scale Ninjago city sets?

  6. Craig says:

People need to stop and take a step back about these oversized expensive sets aimed at adults. Please don’t be misguided with the excitement of bloggers and Youtubers who get these sets for free and give the impression that everyone wants this. We need to send a message to LEGO that we want smaller and more affordable sets. This set could have been made at a much smaller scale and still given us adult fans of the Batman Animated series with the same joy and nostalgia. Blogers and Youtubers who have influence with LEGO also need take our side and encourage more medium size sets.

    • Rowan says:

There are many medium sets out there at reasonable price points. Nobody is “trying to make people think that everyone wants it”. Especially Jay, he always gives honest reviews of sets, and we don’t even know if he is going to receive this.

    • Tim says:

I think Craig has a point. Size and prices of modern LEGO sets are getting out of control. Not to mention the overwhelming number of sets being released that seems to be accelerating every year.

      • Rowan says:

True, but I don’t think that people like Jay are trying to make the sets seem better than they actually are.

    • Stephan says:

Who do you mean with ‘we’, Craig? These kinds of sets are exactly what I want.

    • Snowycheetah2 says:

I 100% agree with Craig. This set is absolutely STUNNING! As the epitome of all superhero’s, Batman catches both my 8 year old twins and my eyes and they have many of the LEGO Batman sets including several “Adults” sets. However the last 2 stunning Batman releases that would be appropriate for us to build as a “family” – The Batcave and now this one are so ridiculously expensive that the value just isn’t there.
Even for adults, why can’t they make one that’s 1/2 the size and price, more people will be excited and purchase it!

      • Rico85 says:

this is a great set! space is the issue here. still a buy for me as I’m a Batman fan.
just wish we get more whacky Batman vehicles like we did 10 years ago for the DC theme and add in a Superman or Aquaman to go up against a Reverse Flash or a Darkseid!

  7. Luke Moses says:

The gargoyles by the minifigs use the binocular element as a head like the 1989 Batman polybag that came out a year ago.

    • Stephan says:

Actually, that was a 1992 polybag (Batman Returns).
And yes, the same gargoyles were used, but also in the big Batmobile and Batwing sets from a while back.

  8. Alejandra Campos says:

Woa!!! It’s so detailed, pretty, and huge!!

  9. Maks says:

hooray for 3 paychecks in March. will be buying this as soon as its released.

  10. Garrett says:

Any idea on when the batmobile should be released?

  11. Justin says:

Maybe need to see this in physical form, but it seems way overpriced for what it is. Will be curious to see how well this sells.
I am not a die hard batman fan though. Still kind of disappointed there is no Lego Batman Movie sequel though with the subsequent waves of sets.

  12. Helen says:

Was really looking at buying this set as I thought you were going to say it was around £80.00 but £259.99 is way to expensive! Lego is charging too much lately.

    • Square Guy says:

Sorry, you expected a 4,210-piece set to be £80?
Anyway, awesome set. So much better than the art sets of years gone by, and with beautiful minifigures too.
