LEGO Ideas 21346 Family Tree revealed for a February 2024 release!

The LEGO Ideas team has just unveiled 21346 Family Tree, the 54th LEGO Ideas set, and 2nd LEGO Ideas set of 2024 which is set to be released on 1 February 2024!

21346 Family Tree was the winner of the What does family mean to you? challenge which was a collaboration with Target (USA), with fan designer Ivan Guerrero aka Bulldoozer‘s winning concept of a family tree ultimately emerging successful.

This 1,040-piece set will be available from LEGO.com from 1 February 2024 onwards and can be pre-ordered now from LEGO.com via the product pages below. And yes, if you pre-order today and meet the purchase thresholds, this will go towards qualifying for the  40681 Retro Food Truck GWP too.

If you’re planning to order 21346 Family Tree, please consider using the affiliate links in this post. I may earn a small commission with each purchase that goes a long way in supporting the work I do on the blog!

Designed by Laura Perron and Graphic Designer Ashwin Visser, the set features holders on hooks (in the new Reddish orange colour!) for photos and other family memorabilia to accessories such as seasonal flowers, ice cream, soccer balls, and even a sticker sheet for writing personal messages!

Here is Bulldoozer’s winning fan design for comparison. I feel like the lack of the minifigures and pets are a huge miss by LEGO, especially as the tree itself, and all the other accessories included are all minifigure-scale.

The base of the tree doubles as a convenient storage solution for the accessories and small builds that are included so you can easily swap them out when needed without rummaging through your entire LEGO collection.

It’s quite a charming set, and I love the new butterfly print, and how Autumn-y this looks and it could also serve as a great tree or small slice of greenery in your LEGO City or display.

Here’s some promotional photos of 21346 Family Tree so you can envision how it looks in your tastefuilly decorated home.

This looks pretty cute, but the price is pretty bad on this one. It’s the same price as 21342 The Insect Collection (an Ideas set released in September 2023), so the value is pretty lacking in this one.

21346 Family Tree will be available on LEGO.com from 1 February 2024 onwards and can now be pre-ordered from LEGO.com.

The build itself is better and more lively than the original proposal, but I agree that it looks a bit bare without minifigs.

  2. Grace O Malley says:

I’m sorry but this looks like coronavirus magnification.

  3. Alejandra Campos says:

Oh no! I don’t like the final version. The original one is 10 times better! This is so sad, the final version is so sad and basic

  4. Håkan says:

That’s some ample Campbell, there. Seems Lego will get their money’s worth for the new Reddish Orange color…

  5. Dorothy says:

Well, with the black base is just looking like a tombe now. How could they do this!

  6. jack says:

Overpriced and horrid version of the original set. I get the minifigures not been included (kind of) but the frames in unforgivable

  7. Lynn says:

Without minifigs in the set, you think Lego could have at least added the lego frames from the original idea. Maybe had a customize your own minifigs headshots on one of their apps that could be printed out to add to the frame? Adding full size, realistic pics like they have done doesn’t look quite right compared to the original idea.

Agreed it was a good ideas set but hasn’t translated well for wider market. The real photos don’t go as well as the headsets and as they already seem to be need to be specific size to fit, so custom headsets wouldn’t be that bigger hassle.

I do like the base with storage.

  8. Mark says:

horse / committee / camel comes to mind with this result. Coming soon to a 50% off flash sale.

  9. Dollaway says:

I agree the exclusion of minifigs was likely due to “how can we possibly represent all families accurately” and not wanting to default to Mom-Dad-2 Kids and get lambasted by everyone who doesn’t fit that mould.

HOWEVER, alllllllllll of the charm of the original submission is gone…. it went from being a set I could easily see myself getting day one to just…. Underwhelming disappointment? I don’t know. I’ll let it brew in the brain and take a look at it again when it releases, probably will still be disappointed and skip it lol, but at least I’ll give it a chance to grow on me 😂

It’s odd – they could’ve taken a leaf out of the Table Football set and included multiple options, which would justify the price somewhat? It’s the same price as Insects and the value comparison is so out of whack with this one.

  10. Dan says:

I imagine the lack of family minifigures is to account for any variety of diverse family groupings, so being more inclusive by excluding ;), but could easily be wrong.

    • Jay Ong says:

Makes sense, but they couldn’t given us options or gender neutral parts with plenty of head options to help make multiple permutations. Kinda like Table Football.

  11. Jesse Wade says:

Removing the minifigures as presented in the original submission is a huge error on LEGO’s part IMO.

    • Jay Ong says:

Yup, agree. Minifigures would’ve helped justify the price somewhat.

      • R0Sch says:

Not only that, but the LEGO minifigure is their only trademark that saves them from people switching over to the alternative construction toy brands. Why should we pay premium prices for basic parts, most of which don’t even have a patent any more? Plus you can easily just re-brick this set with your existing parts, probably in nicer colors too.
