We had a preview a while back with the Summer 2023 Technic reveals, but LEGO have now officially announced 42158 NASA Mars Rover Perseverance, featuring a detailed Technic model of the Perseverance Mars Rover, who is currently roaming about the Martian surface in search of evidence of life.
The LEGO Technic Percy will be released on 1 June 2023 in Europe, EU and Australia, and on 1 August for North America on LEGO.com and looks to be a great addition for NASA and STEM enthusiasts, as well as a great tool to educate and inspire kids about engineering and space exploration.

Two years ago, Perseverance landed on Mars and began its epic journey to seek signs of ancient life and collect samples from the mysterious red planet.

This new LEGO Technic model of the rover allows builders aged 10+ to understand the awesome feats of engineering that make this vehicle so adept to Martian exploration and learn about how the rover’s features and functions work.
At 1,132-pieces, it’s quite a large model, with Perseverance measuring over 9 in. (23 cm) high, 12.5 in. (32 cm) long and 9 in. (23 cm) wide.

The LEGO Technic model features 360° steering and a movable arm, plus fully articulated suspension that lets the rover travel across uneven surfaces on all 6 wheels. And just like its real-life counterpart, the LEGO Technic model is joined by a replica mission companion Ingenuity Helicopter.

“Working on this model has been both challenging and exciting” said Luke Cragin, Designer at the LEGO Group. “I’ve always felt passionate about space, and the design process let me explore my interest as I recreated the incredible engineering developed by the pioneering team at NASA. We hope the model’s features and functions will help introduce young space lovers to the world of engineering and encourage them to reach for the stars in the future.”
The augmented reality app called Technic AR will give fans a holistic experience both physically and digitally. They will be able to discover exciting, educational content getting to know the real-life vehicle and its mission on Mars. Through the app it’s also possible to pull an overview of the weather on Mars on demand or learn about the environment and the rover’s mission.

I’m really excited for the LEGO Perseverance logo, even if I’m not a massive Technic fan myself. I have huge respect and admiration for everything NASA does and I can’t wait to add Perseverance alongside my LEGO Ideas Curiosity Rover, even if this one’s huge!

OMG!! Yay! I love this so much. My LEGO wishlist is out of control but this is a must have.
I’ve not bought any Lego this year, half because I’ve seriously got to get my spending under control, and half because I started the Home Alone house in November for Christmas and it’s only got half the ground storey built as I’ve not touched it since early December – life always gets in the way and I’ve got dozens upon dozens of sets bought over the past five years still sealed in their boxes.
But having said all that, my missus is a massive Mars-phile and keeps a close eye on all its mechanical visitors and would think this is really cool, so I really think I should get this and build it for her. She’ll never be interested in building herself, that’s my thing, not hers, so this is a great opportunity to have both our respective interests coming together in one model 🙂
So June 1 is the day I declare bankruptcy? 😉
We Americans get a two month reprieve. Darn!
is this available in general retail? when?… or.. why not?
In Europe it will be available at retail as early as June 1, easily at a discount.
