Thousands of LEGO Elements will be retiring from Pick a Brick Online soon!

LEGO have announced that approximately 2,107 elements will be retired and removed from the popular Pick a Brick Online service.

These elements will be removed from online Pick a Brick on or before November 17th, so if there’s anything on this list, I highly recommend ordering it now before they go out of stock.

If you order now, you’ll also likely be able to qualify for the 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei GWP when you spend US$130 / AU$215 / €130 / £130 on LEGO.com.

Personally, I’m a HUGE fan (and customer) of Pick a Brick, so I’m really sad to see a lot of my favourite elements get retired. I’ve highlighted some of my favourites below.

For those new to LEGO or this service, Pick a Brick online allows you to order most* individual elements directly from LEGO. There are 2 types of orders: Bestsellers, which are more common and ship out quicker from dedicated warehouses worldwide, and Standard, which typically take a few weeks to arrive as they ship out from Billund, Denmark. This service used to be called Bricks and Pieces.

There are also a TON of elements slated for retirement. Really sad to see the Blacktron 1 torsos get retired, as well as the Red Classic Spaces ones, and I’ll definitely be stocking up on these.

Here are some of the notable ones

Better stock up on any of these if you plan on army building, or filling out your collections before they’re gone for good! With the 40595 Tribute to Galileo Galilei available, you should be able to trigger it easily if your order is large enough!

Good luck and hope you manage to get your favourite elements before they’re gone by 17 November 2023

Lego removed up to 12,000 pieces from pick a brick. The last count I had was 14332 pieces around the November 17th time. I logged on to pick a brick and there is now only 2426 pieces on pick a brick.

I thought I was going crazy. This sucks!! I was going to do a big pre-Christmas mini figure parts order from Pick A Brick… 🙁

I just looked at New Elementary; yeah there’s a lot that’s going away.

Jay, is this unusual, or does this happen somewhat regularly?

    Maybe
    a) this is just a regular/periodic culling (though in that case wouldn’t they be *introducing* many new pieces too?)
    b) many of these are pieces that aren’t selling all that well (I find that hard to believe, there are many great pieces they’re discontinuing)
    c) it’s more money and effort to keep them in stock than is worth it

Or maybe a combination of all 3.

I was saving up to make a decent sized purchase later this month, but there’s probably going to be a big run on a lot of the pieces I was planning to get. Ugh. Oh well.

Some additional context: usually there’s no advance warning when elements get retired, but the LEGO Pick a Brick team (who have been doing quite a lot behind the scenes working with the AFOL community) decided to release this to test the reaction, and also, it’s nice to get a heads up.

I think it’s a periodic culling. Storing and warehousing isn’t cheap, and with LEGO producing new elements plus recolours, space needs to be made for newer elements. They might also stop producing these elements in these specific colours, so there might be no more production runs planned.

It depends if you’re a cynic, or you could also view this as LEGO realising how in-demand these rare elements are, and want to gate them behind sets instead of being able to order in bulk from PAB.

I’d recommend just ordering the parts you want. A lot of these elements have started to sell out, especially the popular ones.

I guess we can’t expect unique and special pieces to exist forever, but it’s still disappointing and sad to see them go. It’s also a useful resource if you need a few spare parts for older sets where pieces have gone missing.

This will backfire horribly on LEGO.

Some items are already disappearing. I had the metallic knights helmet in my bag, 50 in total for an army but waited too long trying to find more pieces, and they are already sold out sadly.

    • Keith says:

That’s happened to me *twice* now! It’s very frustrating.

It just seems more difficult lately to get pieces I’m interested in. I hate to say it, between this and the whole minifigure cardboard box thing (and maybe that lackluster Natural History Museum too), my enthusiasm for Lego is really being tested. Maybe I just need to step away from it for a while 😆

      • Stephen says:

Well some good news, the pieces I missed out on came back in stock today, so I made sure to get a few extras. One way to look at it is, this will leave opportunity for even better unique pieces to become available.

Wow, thanks so much for compiling all that, Jay! Great effort.
It feels like some of these parts have only just been made available on there (looking at you, purple spaceperson parts!)
