London is calling with the LEGO 21347 Red London Telephone Box!

LEGO have unveiled the 21347 Red London Telephone Box, the 55th LEGO Ideas set that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the K2 Telephone Box, one of the most iconic and recognisable symbols of London.

The 1,460-piece LEGO Red London Telephone Box has a release date of 1 February 2024 for LEGO Insiders, ahead of a 3 February general release date.

February is going to be a busy month for LEGO Ideas as 21346 Family Tree is set to be released on the 1st of Feb as well! I don’t believe we’ve ever had a month where we’ve gotten two LEGO Ideas releases simultaneously.

This is a really interesting set, mostly because of how niche it is. It looks like it does exactly what it says on the box – it’s an iconic Red London Telephone Box made out of LEGO bricks.

It’s an ode to a time before cellphones, where these Red Telephone Boxes were ubiquitous across London, and a reminder of simpler times, and perhaps even the Great British Empire in its heyday.

If you have a connection to London, or enjoy memorabilia that reminds you of your time there, this would be a great set to have on display, as it truly excels in being an ornamental model.

It’s mostly ornamental and decorative with some nice subtle details like the wrought-iron fence, as well as the inclusion of what seems to be mostly printed elements.

A light brick is included to illuminate the interiors by pressing down the roof, and it’s also a fairly sizable model – measuring 31cm (12 in.) tall, and 19.5cm (7.5 in.) wide, so it makes for a decent-sized display model.

Here’s a look at some lifestyle photography of the Red Telephone Box to give you a sense of scale.

So yeah, a very decent-sized model, and looks to be to scale with some of the Creator Expert vehicles.

A really nice touch is that you have different options to style the interior of the Red London Telephone Box, selecting the type of phone and styling on the inside, complete with some fun stickers with plenty of Easter Eggs and references.

A shame that there isn’t a Keep Calm and Carry On sticker, which would’ve been fun with a LEGO twist!

Oh and the LEGO Red London Telephone Box also doubles as a holder for your smartphone. Yes, really!

My first impressions are that it’s an okay set. It delivers what’s advertised and is a nice little LEGO model of a Red London Telephone Box. It’s really geared towards Anglophiles and those with a strong connection to London, but it’s not the most interesting set.

My thoughts could change upon building it in the flesh, so keep an eye out for my review for my full thoughts, but on the whole, I’m fairly whelmed by this set.

It does look good, and will probably sell a heap in the UK (especially the Leicester Square Flagship Store), but I really wonder if this has broad appeal beyond the British Isles.

21347 Red London Telephone Box will be released on 1 February 2024 for LEGO Insiders on LEGO.com, ahead of a 4 February general release.

I like the inclusion of the “Yellow Pages” phone book. That takes me back!

Also, the adverts in the booth are a lot more family-friendly than the flyers you find in most of these booths!

I do like it as it harks back to a lost era. I spent many hours at Uni calling my (now Wife) from a similar red phone box before either of us had mobile phones.

I think it will be on my “maybe” list for a while, and keep an eye out for any sales offers.

  2. Wendy says:

Is this at all size compatible with the Creator Expert London Bus (#10258)?

    • Andrew Gardiner says:

Unfortunately not. The bus is only about 18 cm high whereas this is 31 cm tall. In reality this should be approximately 2/3 the height of the bus. I would have preferred it to be in scale and include the post box but I guess the trade off is detail.

      • Wendy says:

I agree. It would have been nice to have them in scale together, but I do think it looks cool!!

        Thanks for the reply!!

  3. Kenneth says:

I wish the items are printed instead of stickers.

  4. Graeme says:

Yah, another set way overpriced for Australia.

  5. Alejandra Campos says:

As someone who loves London, this is a must!
The price tag is a bit 😬

  6. Daniel says:

its so funny that the inside of the phone box lights up while the streetlight doesn’t. is this just me…

  7. Samuel Bennet says:

The typewriter and TC reference is interesting to note. I like these Homages to other designers very much!

  8. Brick HQ says:

I’m definitely looking forward to this set. It should pair well with the London bus
    I wonder if it’s a similar scale

  9. RO says:

Who else is changing the red to TARDIS blue?

  10. Richard Lawson says:

Red telephone boxes were commonplace throughout the British Isles when payphones were the norm, before mobile phones, not Just in London.

  11. TC says:

I’m the picture definition of an Anglophile, albeit with a better accent, so im absolutely going to get this, gutted as I am about the price point… and while i do like the customization and the light brick, i am very disappointed that they chose not to include a red post box like the initial idea!

    • David O'Donnell says:

Yes, I absolutely agree! The letterbox in the original idea was the thing that really drew me in initially- like two builds in one- both iconic UK points of interest.
I still think I will buy the phone box though.
Thanks again, Jay, for keeping us informed.
