Perception Check! First look at the LEGO Dungeons and Dragons set, coming April 2024!
It’s finally here! The LEGO Ideas team have finally unveiled the LEGO Dungeons and Dragons set, Red Dragon’s Tale (21348), which will be released on 1 April 2024 – not an April Fool’s joke!
This gargantuan 3,745-piece set is hands down one of the most anticipated LEGO collaborations of 2024, with Hasbro teaming up with LEGO to produce the very first D&D LEGO set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dungeons and Dragons!
It’s a match made in D20 heaven, and a great excuse for LEGO to release another huge Fantasy-themed LEGO Castle set, with the added benefit of this also appealing to tabletop roleplaying game enthusiasts!
But this isn’t a one-off – LEGO have also confirmed that a Dungeons and Dragons Collectible Minifigures Series will be coming in September 2024!
21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale will be available exclusively from LEGO.com or your local LEGO Store on 1 April 2024 for LEGO Insiders, ahead of a 4 April general release date. You’ll want to pick the set up at launch, as you’ll receive a buildable Mimic Dice Box as a gift with purchase, which will definitely sell out.
The LEGO Dungeons and Dragons set won’t come cheap however, as you’ll need to save US$359.99 / AU$499.99 for this stunning set. Good news for Australians, as we somehow get this set far cheaper than anywhere else in the world!

For Dungeons and Dragons fans, the set has nearly all the staples and outside of several colour changes, has remained quite faithful to the winning design of the LEGO Dungeons and Dragons vote. Here’s a refresher of what the original submission looked like.
All your D&D classics like the Beholder, Gelatinous Cube, Owlbear, a Displacer Beast and a massive dragon are all here.
I feel like the colours changes will be slightly controversial to fans who voted for the original, especially as there’s a distinct shift to a more Fantasy-esque colour palette, compared to the more grounded colour scheme of the original submission.
Dungeons and Dragons is all about the Player Classes and characters, and the set does not disappoint with a lineup of minifigures!
For minifigures, we have a pretty balanced party with a Dwarf Cleric, Gnome Fighter, Orc Rogue and Elf Wizard, as well as a cast of supporting characters like a Dragonborn Innkeeper, and even Myconids!
The highlight of the set is the massive brick-built dragon, which has undergone quite a dramatic makeover, and is now orange instead of green, and features fabric wings.
Fans can also get a specially created DUNGEONS & DRAGONS adventure book, created in partnership by Wizards of the Coast and the LEGO Group, to offer a completely new and unique play experience. Available for LEGO Insiders as a free digital download, or as a paperback book for 2,700 Insider points (whilst stocks last). The book is also available from D&D Beyond along with character sheets, a digital dice and more.

Safe to say, LEGO and Wizards of the Coast has a smash hit on their hands. Even for LEGO fans who aren’t big DnD players, there’s a LOT to like here with the Fantasy/Castle aspect, and the set just looks astounding with plenty to discover.
For fans in Amsterdam that want to get a set signed, and meet the the fan designer/LEGO designers, head down to the the Amsterdam flagship LEGO Store on Saturday 6th April from 9am – 12pm.

You’ll definitely want to pick this one up at launch to get access to the LEGO DnD Mimic Dice Box GWP, which you can only get by purchasing the set from 1-7 April 2024, while stocks last.
There’ll also be a printed LEGO DnD Adventure Book to redeem via LEGO Insiders for points, or a digital version you can download for free.
