The LEGO Ideas First 2021 Review Stage Results announcement is almost here!

Update: The results announcement has been postponed to tomorrow, 15 October 2021! There’s also a giveaway you can join.

LEGO Ideas have announced that the results of the 57 (!) LEGO Ideas Projects from the first 2021 LEGO Review Results will be announced later today.

It’s the biggest LEGO Ideas round yet (which closed in May) and naturally, with so many successful projects, I think

You can check out all 57 individual Ideas project submissions on the LEGO Ideas Blog!

Time for some quick predictions – I think we’ll get 2 successful Ideas, and 2 that still require reviews.

My favourites that I think will likely get passed:

I adamantly still believe that LEGO will do an Animal Crossing set, so my money is on Tiago Catarino’s model making it through this round. Animal Crossing has done a lot of licensing, and the timing of the LEGO Ideas announcement lines up very nicely with a New Horizons Direct coming up.

I think Animal Crossing would make for a fantastic LEGO theme – read my editorial to see all the reasons why LEGO Animal Crossing makes perfect sense.

That said, I think I also wouldn’t be surprised if Tutankhamun by Swan Dutchman passes as it’s a terrific model, and has tremendous educational value.

The Office by SoGenius106 / The Office by Lego The Office and The X-Files: I Want To Believe by BrentWaller will be under review, but I can absolutely see LEGO adding the popular sitcom to their slate of “Pop Culture/TV Sitcom” Apartments theme.

The Office does a heap of licensing, and LEGO has an existing relationship with Universal to leverage, and is also exceptionally popular with women, so it would be really silly for LEGO to not take it on as a project as it’ll sell like absolute hotcakes.

Which projects do you think will pass this review round and become a LEGO Ideas sets?

Unfortunately The X-Files (a programme I am currently revisiting on DVD – I’ve just finished s6) has been turned down, which is a shame as I’d have though it’d have been one of the cheaper sets, as it looked to be about the same size as the Bro Thor New Asgard one.

Here’s hoping for the Willy Wonka and Snow White sets now!

Oh, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang too!

  2. Mike says:

Tutankhamen, Steampunk airship, chitty chitty bang bang car, jazz quartet, violin would be the ones I’d buy.

The rest are mostly just average to boring – though I do like the marine life in jars as well. I just look for originality and creativeness not rehashing the same themes again and again and again – TV shows and movies being a prime example. I think The Office is possibly the most boring one of all – a bunch of boring mini figs in a totally boring setting…. where is the creativity in that set? As a stark contrast, I just built the typewriter – now that is a magic set: amazing concept, design and execution and not a tedious or licensing deal in sight.

Compared to other years I think most of those sets don’t deserve to have made the final but of course that’s only my opinion – but to me this is a mostly disappointing batch of sets, at least from a purely AFOL POV.

  3. Tanya says:

I would happily buy Karate Kid, The Office, The Post Office and The Greek Temple in an instant.

  4. Reader says:

I’d like Succulent Garden and Marine Life to win. They’re somewhat similar to Ship in a Bottle and Botanical collection in that they make good display pieces. Ancient Greek Temple looks fun to build.

I’d guess The Office will win in the same vein as similar sets. If the Animal Crossing one were to get through, I think it’d need more in it to be viable. Some iconic characters like Tom Nook or KK Slider and an extra building or two.

  5. Nancy says:

Personally, I’d love Sewing Workshop (sewist) and Map of Middle-Earth based on my interests. Alas, I fear that is not the case for many AFOLs.
your choices make sense, though I would also add The Astronaut to the list.

  6. Arno Botha says:

The Succulent Garden and the Train Bookends. Both would make great display pieces.

  7. Greg says:

There are a few I like but if I could only get 1 it would be the Office.
Loved that show. My sister would buy it too and she isn’t into Lego so it would sell well.
