This is a new 2023 LEGO Classic Space set that’s unobtainable (unless you work for LEGO)

Want to see one of the rarest LEGO sets of 2023? Take a look at DS2023 Cosmic Daydreams, a super-exclusive LEGO Classic Space set that us mere mortals can only admire from afar.

It was a gift presented to attendees of LEGO’s Design Seminar 2023, and this photo was shared by LEGO Designer Justin Ramsden on Twitter, giving us a sneak peek at this incredible new set.

The Design Seminar is an held exclusively for members of LEGO’s Design Team, and from the looks of it on social media, it’s a festival of creativity and inspiration and this year’s theme was Cosmic Daydreams, featuring planets, and a space-themed event space.

What’s really fascinating is that the set canonizes the Purple Classic Space Astronaut, now that it’s been featured in a set. In the description of this 148-piece set, it reads:

Everyone has their role to play in space – Pilots, Scientists, Engineers, even Mech-Operators. But the purple Spaceman, that one’s the Dreamer. Dreamers imagine the impossible and bring their wildest thoughts to life!

They inspire us to look up, ask the big questions, and build a better universe for everyone!

And now, we get Purple’s official designation – he’s a Space DJ, spinning intergalactic tunes at a Space Party attended by Blacktron I, Red and White Classic Space Astronauts, and their robot partners!

Note the huge “NOT FOR RESALE” message on the packaging, so it’s extremely unlikely that copies of this will find their way out of the hands of LEGO Designers.

Also love the KEKO reference included in the set! Fans of Classic Space will recognise KEKO, from the Jim Spaceborn comics!

Thankfully, LEGO being LEGO, it shouldn’t be too hard to re-create, especially now that you can purchase nearly all the elements you need to create your very own Purple Spaceman on LEGO’s Pick a Brick online, paired with the torso from Series 22’s Space Creature.

I wonder if we’ll see a pure Purple Classic Space Astronaut make an appearance in a future set?

As a hardcore Classic Space fan, I finally have a new grail item to try and hunt down, as I’d LOVE this set in my collection, however low the chances of getting it is!

That said, I do like that ultra-exclusive employee-only sets like these exist, especially ones that were designed exclusively by LEGO Designers, for LEGO Designers.

*boring tone* Do they know you can’t here music from speakers in space?

I can only imagine that designers conspired to make more space pieces available outright, were thwarted by Lord Business, and now have to resort to moving pieces in place as if play chess. PLEASE DO GREEN OR MEDIUM STONE GREY NEXT!

As Lego has designated 2024 as Year Of The Space, we’d likely see a lot of shoutouts of various kinds the next year.

I realize now that the DJ booth likely is purple, as well.

(I don’t know what has happened to this site, by the way, but from my Swedish IP, it crashes regularly. Particularly if I try to comment on something. It’s been going on for some months, now.)

What would be cool to bring back those classic and rare to seen Lego kits since it is a space themed when I first got a space kit it was the white suit with helmet guy and his space plane then it was Mtron set my first newer kit then two blacktron kits I wish they did more of those kits than Star wars kits ha it be not bad if they did with Star wars they can do it with blacktron and the Mtron series Legos like a version of Star wars mix with a bit Star Trek I’m hoping they can add those series set to the Lego world game I have the ps4 but it’s just a thought

    It’ll end up on E-Bay.

I collect classic Lego space sets, and I’m disappointed that Lego won’t issue this for fans and collectors. If a version was issued with a different box without the “not for resale” ribbon and given a formal item number, I would be ecstatic and I’d be the first person in line to purchase it.

Agreed! I’m glad the only exclusive element seems to be the DS23 print, which I’m sure there will be repro stickers of in the future. Supposedly the QR code leads to instructions, so I’ll be waiting on a clearer image to part this together!

I really hope this conference with the space theme has all the designers coming together to design the first UCS classic space set
