A closer look at LEGO UCS Venator’s exclusive Captain Rex and Admiral Yularen minifigures

One of the most anticipated LEGO Star Wars releases of 2023 is undoubtedly the 5,374-piece 75367 UCS Venator, which is set to assault the wallets and display space of prequel fans when it launches on 1 October 2023.

Vaderfan is busy putting together his detailed review of the UCS Venator, but in the meantime, let’s take a quick look at the minifigures included in the set – Admiral Yularen and the long-awaited return of Captain Rex.

Minifigures traditionally aren’t a massive drawcard for LEGO Star Wars UCS sets, but that seems to be shifting slightly with recent releases. While they’re not the main reason to pick up a super-sized LEGO UCS set, the inclusion of exclusive minifigures, or variants are a surefire way to add more value for fans who have the capacity to add these sets to their collection.

Here’s a look at Admiral Yularen and Captain Rex included with 75367 Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser, as well as a printed Clone Wars 20 commemorative brick which serves as a great memento to celebrate this two-decade anniversary.

The highlight of the duo has to be Captain Rex, complete with a Phase II helmet. He sports a rangefinder, and a cloth pauldron, but no cloth kama.

The lack of the cloth kama is definitely noticeable, although this version of Rex has the Kama as printed details on his legs. It isn’t really a deal-breaker, as Captain Rex’s minifigure is really quite well done, with arm printing, and detailed leg printing (sides would be nice though), and fans will still be delighted to get a modern version and not have to spend a small fortune on the 2013 minifigure version, but for a minifigure in a set this expensive, a cloth kama would’ve been the one thing that would’ve made this a perfect minifigure.

Admiral Yularen is here in his Clone Wars version and also looks great. His inclusion fits in quite well with the model as he was in command of the Resolute, a flagship which explains the Venator’s red bridge which is a way to denote the command ship from others in the fleet.

The dual-moulded boots, and his Republic uniform and insignia are accurate, and this will be another great character to add to any Star Wars minifigure collection, as we’ve only ever gotten Admiral Yularen as an older variant in the 5002947 Admiral Yularen polybag from 2015.

Here’s a look at their back printing.

While minifigures aren’t the focal point of LEGO Star Wars UCS sets, you can’t deny that Admiral Yularen and a Phase 2 Captain Rex aren’t extremely fitting additions to the UCS 75367 Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser.

Two minifigure does feel a little on the low side for a US$649.99 / AU$999.99 set, and I would’ve really loved it if LEGO had included a General Skywalker minifigure as a bonus, but that would’ve likely overshadowed Captain Rex and Yularen.

Fans will be pleased to pick them up if they can afford to pick up the 75367 UCS Venator, but I do hope that we get Phase 2 Captain Rex in a slightly more affordable playset, preferably with a cloth kama or battle-damaged armour to differentiate itself from this version here, which I can guess LEGO wants to keep exclusive to the UCS Venator as a way to reward fans.

Hope you enjoyed this quick look at the minifigures from the 75367 Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser! Vaderfan will be sharing his in-depth review of the UCS Venator soon as well, so keep an eye out for it in the coming days!
