Review: LEGO 40468 Mini Adidas Superstar (gift with purchase)

June 24, 2021 By Jay 9 Comments

After being teased in a LEGO designer video, I’m honoured to be able to reveal the upcoming 40486 Mini Adidas Superstar, an adorable miniaturised version of LEGO’s Adidas Superstar which will be released on 1 July 2021!

Be sure to check out my review of 10282 Adidas Superstar to see more of the full-sized buildable sneaker.

The mini LEGO Adidas Superstar will be available from 1 – 25 July 2021 when you purchase above a certain threshold from LEGO.com or your local LEGO store. It will be applicable to ALL purchases above the threshold, and you won’t need to purchase the 10282 Adidas Superstar to qualify for it, which is great if the full-sized version isn’t quite your shoe-size!

  • LEGO.com orders over $85 [US]
  • LEGO.com orders over AU$TBD [AUS]
  • LEGO.com orders over £95 [UK]

Special thanks to LEGO for providing this review set.

40486 Mini Adidas Superstar (gift with purchase)

Name: Mini Adidas Superstar
Set Number: 40486
Pieces: 92
Price: N/A (Gift with Purchase from LEGO.com)
Exclusive to: LEGO Brand Retail Stores, LEGO.com
Theme: Promotional, LEGO Adidas Collaboration
Release Date: 1 July 2021

Here’s a look at the contents – there are 2 bags, a sticker sheet, and an Adidas Originals-branded instruction booklet.

Like the full-sized LEGO Adidas Superstar, this gift with purchase set also has a unique box design, although the details are all printed, and the flap doesn’t lift up like a real shoebox. That said, the Adidas branding is especially prominent and gives it a very unique look, and I love the three stripes stretching across the front.

Also like the minifigure printed on the side.

Here’s a look at the sticker sheet – the Adidas Trefoil logo on the shoe’s tongue is a sticker, as is the Adidas Originals shoebox.

There is one minifigure included and he’s dressed in an Adidas Originals shoebox – which is both a reference to the shoe, as well as the insane unboxing experience of the full-sized LEGO Adidas Superstar.

I love that we get a classic smiley-face minifigure!

The minifigure costume is based on Series 18’s Brick Suit Girl, with a stickered tile on the front for details. He also comes with a microphone and boombox – which is an homage to the influence of the Adidas Superstar on hip hop and street culture.

In my mind, it’s as close as LEGO can get to a RUN DMC minifigure, and a homage to their classic hit – My Adidas, which cemented the Adidas Superstar in hiphop legend.

Here’s a look at the mini LEGO Adidas Superstar – it’s colours have been inverted from the traditional Superstar colourway, which demonstrates the versatility of the Adidas Superstar – even with the colours inverted, it’s still immediately recognizable.

The key features such as the three stripes on the side, shelltoe bulbous toebox, and chunky sole are all immediately apparent.

Here’s a look at the shoe from the side. Pleasingly, the tiles used for the jagged three stripes on the side are all printed tiles!

Here are more angles – LEGO have done a great job shrinking down the Adidas Superstar’ design, yet still retaining the general shape, and proportions.

Don’t be confused by this – this is my 4-year old daughter’s pair of Adidas Superstars (unworn – size K9) for scale as a form of comparison.

And here’s how the mini Superstar looks next to its big brother, the full-sized LEGO Adidas Superstar.=

What I liked:

  • The Adidas shoebox minifigure is a great touch and super collectible, especially for Adidas fans
  • Shoe is a great display piece, and looks great on its own or next to the big one
  • You don’t need to buy the full-sized shoe to qualify for this gift with purchase

What I didn’t like:

  • Stickers are a little disappointing

Final Thoughts: This is a superb gift with purchase, and a must-buy if you’re a fan of Adidas, or don’t quite want to spring the money for the full-sized LEGO Adidas Superstar.

You still get the novelty of a brick-built shoe, albeit at a smaller scale, and I love the minifigure included, which is a great collectible piece for Adidas fans like myself.

As with any gift with purchase, and at 92 pieces, the build is pretty quick, but I mostly enjoyed it, and I think it’ll look fantastic next to the real thing, or on its own.

The box and overall presentation all come together as a great package, and I can highly recommend this if you want a taste of the LEGO Adidas collaboration without shelling out for the full-sized version.

In many ways, I think this set is much better than the full-sized shoe, and so much more accessible – thankfully LEGO didn’t make this a GWP that was only available with the purchase of the shoe and I can see this one being super successful.

Rating: 4/5

The LEGO 40486 Mini Adidas Superstar will be available from LEGO.com (and LEGO Brand Stores) from 1-25 July 2021 onwards, and will be free with purchases of US$85 and £95.

Be sure to also read my review of 10282 Adidas Superstar or watch my speed build video to see how the shoe comes together!

What do you think of the Mini Adidas Superstar? Do you think it’s better than its bigger brother?

Hi, have you got any idea what the orange curved piece that is in the box is supposed to be used for?

Here we go again…It’s midday on July 1st & the Adidas promotion is still not live. LEGO Australia has proven to be truly pathetic this year with some June 1st releases delayed until July. This doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world. If it does, please let me know in the comments.

Sorry about that – I’ve reached out to LEGO Australia for an update on when the offer will begin, so please ensure you follow me on my Facebook page https://facebook.com/jaysbrickblog

Will share news there (and update this post) as soon as I get official confirmation.

Hi. Do you know if Legoland Discovery Centre online shop is considered a Lego shop and if they run the same gwp offers? Thanks.

Hey Sandy, sorry for the late reply. No, they’re not considered a LEGO Shop and they have their own (similar) promos. The Adidas GWP is available there nd on their store BUT only with purchases of the Adidas Sneaker.

I love how LEGO doesn’t say anything on what the Australian threshold will be, not to mention this is an Australia blog… 🙁

Happy International @LEGO Day! The 28th of Januar Happy International @LEGO Day!

The 28th of January commemorates the date where the first patent for the iconic LEGO brick was filed with the Danish Patent and Trademark Office in Denmark by then-owner Godtfred Kirk Christiansen.

Here's a photo of the patent which is on display in the history section of the @legohouse, which I got to see last year when I visited Billund!

There's tons of incredible historical artifacts, and I've also shared some other displays that commemorated this part of LEGO's history!
