Review: LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) Christmas 2023

It’s November which heralds in the Christmas holiday season and the final LEGO Build a Minifigure release of the year!

Each year, we get a small selection of Christmas-themed minifigures, and for 2023, we have 3 new characters making an appearance, including an all-new and very awesome Dark Red Santa Claus minifigure!

You can check out the 2022 Christmas BAM selection, which was just okay, but I think LEGO have a really strong lineup this year, to close out what’s been a really varied and mixed bag of a year for LEGO Build a Minifigure collections.

I’ve been checking my local LEGO stores religiously for these, but Australia seem a bit slow this month, so these weren’t out yet at time of writing, but @hanobrix has so kindly snapped some photos of the Christmas 2023 BAM Minifigures that he found in Germany for this review, which I’m incredibly grateful for!

Let’s jump into a quick review of the new LEGO Christmas 2023 Build a Minifigure characters!

Check out previous build a Minifigure (BAM) releases below. I’m proud to say that this blog contains the most complete guide to all the LEGO Build a Minifigure releases as this is something I genuinely enjoy collecting and hunting for!

What are LEGO Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) exclusives?

In case you’re new to this, LEGO have been releasing new (and sometimes exclusives) into Build a Minifigure (BAM) stations that you’ll find at LEGO Stores. These are usually released on a quarterly basis, and are an intentional strategy to attract LEGO and Minifigure fans in-store.

You can customise your minifigures, and select a wig/hairpiece, head, torso, legs, and one accessory for these 3-pack blister packs which cost US$9.99 / AU$19.99.

Some stores also send these new characters pre-packed, but that depends on your local store policy.

Christmas 2023 Build-a-Minifigure (BAM) characters

Three new characters are included in this wave and 2 of 3 are exclusive/new variants!

The most notable character is this new dark red Santa Claus minifigure. It’s really fascinating that LEGO have gone out of their way to recolour the iconic Santa Claus minifigure, and you know, I’m a big fan of this dark red variant.

He comes with a Teddy Bear accessory, and eschews the bushy beard accessory for a printed beard on his minifigure head, which is another interesting twist on the ubiquitous LEGO Santa Claus.

Here’s a look at the back and front. The back printing has a candy cane stuck into his belt.

And yes, this is a new Dark Red variant, even the hat. Here’s a side by side next to a regular Red Santa Claus minifigure.

The next minifigure isn’t particularly new – a Snow Shoveller, but includes a fairly uncommon LEGO City torso, which has a striped robber shirt underneath a caramel-coloured fur-lined leather jacket, which has only shown up in 2 LEGO City sets this year (eg: 60371 Emergency Vehicles HQ).

The Bomber Hat and Leather Jacket combination make it quite a fitting Winter-themed minifigure, so this will have some handy elements to Winterise your minifigures.

And last but not least is this magical Snow Lady, with bright pink hair, large rounded glasses and a trans-blue snowflake accessory.

She comes with one of the most stunning LEGO minifigure dresses, which has fur-lining and a beautiful star and snowflake pattern.

The printing even extends across her back, including her dress skirt legs. This is one of the best new LEGO minifigure outfits introduced in Build a Minifigure, and is already one of my favourites from the 2023 BAM lineup, just because of how resplendent and elegant it looks. Bonus points because it’s also great for the season.

This is a really solid lineup of Christmas-themed minifigures, and should definitely warrant a visit to your local LEGO Store to pick them up, especially the Dark Red Santa and Snow Lady.

Happy hunting!

These should start appearing in LEGO Build a Minifigure statins worldwide from November onwards, so next time you’re near a LEGO Store, pop in to see if you can find any of these!
