Review: LEGO 76276 Venom Mech Armor vs. Miles Morales

If there’s two common themes in LEGO Marvel sets the past couple of years, it would be Venom and mechs. 76276 Venom Mech Armor vs. Miles Morales combines these two into one US$15 set, and is the first mech set at this price point to include two minifigures.

It’s not the first Venom mech LEGO has made but it is the most affordable one yet, so let’s dive in to take a closer look and see if this set is worth picking up.

This is a guest review from Vaderfan who covers Star Wars, Technic, Speed Champions and Marvel sets for the blog!

Special thanks to LEGO for sending this set over for review.

Unboxing

The front of the box has the Spider-Man border design, along with an action scene of Miles Morales battling a pursuing Venom mech.

The back of the box shows off the play features, plus an alternative angle of the main model.

Inside the box are two unnumbered bags, an instruction manual, and a white rubbery webbing element.

76276 Venom Mech Armor vs. Miles Morales Minifigures

Two minifigures, Venom and Miles Morales, are included, which is pretty unusual for a set of this size. Neither figure is new, however – Venom’s minifigure originated in 2019 and the Miles Morales figure is a downgraded version of the one in 76171 Miles Morales Mech Armor (minus the dual-molded legs).

While both minifigures lack leg printing, they do look pretty good otherwise, and I am still a fan of the Miles Morales hoodie outfit in LEGO form. It’s also great to get two named minifigures in a set of this size, which is a first for the LEGO Marvel mech subtheme.

Completed Model

The Venom mech armor measures around 13cm (5″) tall, with a predominantly black and white colour scheme (although the arms and legs still have quite a bit of dark grey).

Like the other Marvel mechs in this lineup, the Venom mech is built around a specialised cockpit piece with a corresponding chestplate.

There is a 2×2 spot for Venom to sit inside the mech, and you can then fold up the chestplate to complete the armoured look.

With the minifigure in the cockpit, the entire mech does a decent job of looking like a large Venom symbiote instead of a robotic mech, which is a nice alternative that boosts playability.

A printed 2×2 curved slope is attached to the chestplate piece with the white Venom-spider logo.

The mech has mini ball joints at the shoulder, hips, and ankles, plus a rotating waist. It is pretty posable, although the lack of elbow and wrist articulation slightly limits the posing options for the hands.

The hands themselves use robotic arm pieces with white tooth pieces on the end to represent the symbiote’s claws – a suitably menacing design!

The shoulders also have a fair bit of heft to them thanks to the 2×2 curved slope corner pieces used. Some spiky black pieces are attached to the backs of the arms to represent the gooey texture of the symbiote biomass.

While the mech lacks projectile-themed weapons, it does have studs built into its hands.

This allows the mech to grab minifigures in its claws, which is honestly great for both playability and display.

The back of the mech looks reasonable too, although there is a conspicuous dark grey bar piece at the rear of the chest section.

This is designed for you to attach the white rubber string element which represent Miles Morales’ webbing.

This adds another display and play option with Miles Morales being able to sling his web to tie up the Venom mech before it wreaks more havoc.

Final Thoughts

On the whole, I would say this is another successful LEGO Marvel mech set. Two minifigures in a set of this size is always a treat, even if they have less prints than usual. The mech is a fun model to play with, and having both hero and villain in one set is great for playability too.

Of course, this set is unlikely to be highly collectable in future – but then again, none of these mech sets are, that is not their aim. As for its goals and scope within this price point, I think this set accomplishes most of what it sets out to do, making it a great pocket money purchase or impulse buy for Marvel fans, especially younger ones, or for adult fans looking to buy an affordable gift for a Miles Morales/Venom-obsessed kid.

Build [3] – The mech is decent for its price point, although nothing out of the ordinary.
Minifigures [3] – The inclusion of two minifigures is great, even though they somewhat lack detail.
Price [3] – Decent value for the price, though slightly expensive.
Innovation [2] – The mech has good posing options but otherwise follows the standard LEGO mech template.
Keepability [2] – None of these mech sets are designed to be collectible, and this Venom mech is particularly generic.

Rating and score: 3/5 ★★★✰✰
