Review: LEGO Star Wars 75363 The Mandalorian N-1 Starfighter Microfighter (Guest Review)

The Mandalorian TV show continues to go from strength to strength, receiving rave reviews for its third season earlier this year. Fans of the show will undoubtedly want a LEGO version of Din Djarin’s sleek N-1 Starfighter, and while a large version was released last year, 2023 gives fans a newer, and slightly more affordable version in the form of 75363 The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter Microfighter

It is the most expensive single microfighter yet – retailing at US$16 / AU$24.99 – but it does come with the two main protagonists of the show, making this a compelling set for Star Wars fans on a budget. Is this set right on target, or is it doomed to be a miss? Let’s find out!

This is a guest review from our LEGO Star Wars correspondent Vaderfan who has been reviewing the August 2023 wave of Star Wars sets. Check them out below!

Special thanks to the LEGO Group for sending this set over for review.

Unboxing

The front of the box shows the model in flight against a desert backdrop.

The back of the box has an alternate view of the model with the figures removed, plus a small cutout graphic to showcase the stud shooters. It uses thumb tabs to open, which is standard for small sets like this.

Inside, you’ll find two unnumbered bags and a small instruction manual; no sticker sheet in this set.

75363 The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter Microfighter Minifigures

The two protagonists of The Mandalorian are included here, namely Din Djarin, The Mandalorian and Grogu. Din Djarin is kitted out in his Beskar armor outfit, featuring a new helmet and a gunmetal grey jetpack, while Grogu is unchanged from his previous appearances.

The Mandalorian gets a new update for 2023 – his helmet print is new and improved. This figure also has Din Djarin’s face print underneath – the cheapest set it’s appeared in so far.

The Mandalorian’s torso and leg prints are unchanged, but the new helmet print with just a bit more details is a massive improvement.

Here is the completed model, which measures about 13cm (5″) long, and has a grey color scheme with splashes of yellow.

Although the proportions are caricatured and stubby, the overall shape of the N-1 starfighter has been faithfully retained, featuring key details like the three finials and the microscaled cockpit.

Both minifigures can be comfortably seated in the craft, even with the added bulk from Din Djarin’s jetpack. Grogu gets a cute slot behind the pilot’s seat, just like the in-universe ship, minus a little glass dome.

The rear view of the model shows its three engines, which have been replicated by trans-light blue 1×1 round plates – a neat touch.

The ship’s missile launchers have been represented by a pair of silver stud shooters at the nose – they are quite bulky and disrupt the overall shape of the craft, but do add some welcome playability.

Due to the curved slopes at the rear, the ship is also very easy to pick up and fly around, so you can reenact your favorite dogfights from The Mandalorian Season 3.

The spare parts for the set include some extra ammo for the stud shooters, plus an extra blaster pistol.

Final Thoughts

On the whole, this microfighter does a good job of recreating the Mandalorian’s sleek N-1 starfighter in the signature chibi Microfighter style. The two included minifigures will undoubtedly be the biggest draw, as this is the cheapest set by far to include both Din Djarin and Grogu so far. The model is also decently fun to fly around, and is pretty recognisable as the craft from the show.

The price will definitely be the biggest point of contention – at US$16, it’s a 60% increase over the usual microfighter price, without any significant change in piece count.

The inclusion of two minifigures is likely the cause of the increased cost, but even then it still feels too expensive. Ultimately, whether or not you get this set depends on how much you want the Mandalorian and Grogu figures – it may still be better value to wait and nab this set on sale rather than buying them separately from a secondhand seller online to get the figures, plus you get a decent model of the Mandalorian’s main starfighter to boot.

Build [3] – Does a pretty good job of replicating the N-1 Starfighter from the show into a caricatured microfighter style.
Minifigures [5] – The strongest aspect of the set, perfect way to get the two main characters from The Mandalorian in the smallest set of the summer wave.
Real Value [3] – Quite expensive especially in comparison to other microfighters, but the inclusion of two key characters may make the retail price easier to stomach for some fans.
Innovation [2] – Hope to see more important characters appear in cheap sets like this, but other than that there’s not much innovation here.
Keepability [2] – Can’t see this really being a memorable set in the long-term.

Rating and Score: 3/5 ★★★✰✰
