First look at LEGO 80054 Megapolis City, celebrating 5 years of Monkie Kid!

The LEGO Instructions app has given us our very first look at an upcoming LEGO Monkie Kid set, 80054 Megapolis City! At 2,330-pieces, it’s the 3rd largest LEGO Monkie Kid set yet, only dwarfed by 80039 The Heavenly Realms and 80049 Dragon of the East Palace

80054 Megapolis City will be released on LEGO.com on 1 January 2024.

It features a densely populated slice of Megapolis City, which includes plenty of attractions and shops and a massive cast of characters. Looking at the packaging, you can see a LEGO Monkie Kid 5th anniversary design across the box as the theme celebrates half a decade!

The 5 year anniversary thing is a little confusing for Westerners. LEGO Monkid Kid only made its debut in 2020, and if you’re decent at math, you’ll realise that 2024 makes it 4 years. BUT in China (and some Eastern countries, you are born aged 1…. so hence, the 5th anniversary).

The set includes a massive cast of 15 minifigures: Monkie Kid, Mei, Pigsy, Mr. Tang, Monkey King, White Bone Demon, Sandy, Mo, Spider Queen, Auntie Tei, Evil Macaque, Lee, Lady Yu, 20-Gong, Gold Horn Demon, Silver Horn Demon, and Red Son

Megapolis City set features a unique modular design, where all the shops and attractions have their own individual modules and can be re-arranged on the frame to customise the look of it, which I think is really interesting and should provide plenty of replayability.

There are also some really fun references to LEGO’s history, such as the Wooden Duck (wearing a chef hat), and even a Classic Space elevator, complete with plenty of trans-yellow glass.

But wait, that’s not all! It’s a little grainy, but what do we have here? A Green Classic Space helmet? 😀

This set looks fantastic, and looks like a heap of fun, and a very worthy follow-up to sets like 80036 City of Lanterns!

With CIIE running in full swing today, we can expect a few more reveals at LEGO’s Booth, including the 2024 LEGO Lunar New Year sets!

    Simply gorgeous

great, the turquoise tracks will probably be used to expand the route of the city of lanterns, this will be a great expansion for it!

Monkie Kid has had a number of structure-based side builds, such as the Panda Store that came with Red Son’s Inferno Truck (80011). I wonder if those can be combined with this. And maybe you could combine it with City of Lanterns (80036). The polybag Monkey King Marketplace (30656) has Technic pins to pop onto that.

Fantastic. Not a theme I would typically consider, but I love the fun and whimsy so it may well enter my wishlist!
