First look at LEGO Inside Out 2 Mood Cubes set!

Today’s flurry of new LEGO reveals also includes the very first Inside Out 2 set, with LEGO giving us our very first look at 43248 Inside Out 2 Mood Cubes, set for a May 2024 release and is priced at US$34.99 / €34.99.

Inside Out 2 is the sequel to the critically-acclaimed Pixar movie about the emotions inside of protagonist Riley as she grows and learns to deal with the whole spectrum of emotions such as Joy, Sadness, Disgust, Anger and Fear.

This 394-piece set features Joy in minidoll form, which I think works well in this case as Joy is quite is quite lean and lanky, and also included is a new emotion, Anxiety! Rounding out the duo near the control panel is a bunch of Mind Workers.

LEGO Dots well and truly lives on in this set, as you can build these little containers, that also have sides featuring Dots-esque portaits of the Inside Out characters and emotions. Also reminiscent of 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons!

These little cube containers are then placed on a stand, and you can turn the cubes around to display a particular set of emotions.

While this may look quite kiddy, I really like what LEGO have done here as this looks like an incredible tool for neuro-diverse children and even adults to communicate the emotions that they’re feeling. Kind of similar to the Octopus plushie that was popular a few years ago, but with Inside Out emotions.

This is especially useful for people who have autism, where they may find it quite hard to relay how they’re feeling, or even if you’re not neuro-diverse, a fun little tool to teach younger kids about emotions.

I’m a big fan of Inside Out, and I really like the look of this set, and most importantly what it stands for. It looks fun, and hopefully the sequel will be as ground-breaking as the original movie.

43248 Inside Out 2 Mood Cubes will be released on 1 May 2024.
