LEGO 2022 Prediction: A Warner Bros Multiversus Minifigures series

All right, it’s not even November yet, but let’s dive into deep speculation into what LEGO will do in 2022. Technically, I’ve started speculating in September about the 90th Anniversary plans, but this is fresh, and I like calling things early.

The video game world is ablaze in gossip and rumour mongering today, after Hungrybox, one of the best Super Smash Brothers (a Nintendo all-star fighting game) ever dropped a sensational tweet and image about Warner Bros Multiversus – an upcoming Super Smash Brothers clone, featuring an all-star cast of major characters belonging to Warner Bros: Stephen Universe, Adventure Time, Batman, Harley Quinn, Superman, Wonder Woman, Gandalf, Rick and Morty, Tom and Jerry and Bugs Bunny among others.

His video (and twitter image) got promptly copyright claimed by Warner Bros, which lends further credence that it’s a credible leak, and Warner Bros really doesn’t want anyone talking about it. Cue Streissand Effect

Anyway, looking at supposed cast of playable characters for Warner Bros Multiversus immediately reminded me of… LEGO Dimensions (remember that?) Warner Bros and LEGO’s now-extinct Toys to Life theme in 2015, which blended a video game, and NFC-enabled Character, Level and Team Packs – bridging the digital-physical divide.

I have very fond memories of LEGO Dimensions, and really enjoyed the rich roster of characters from across Warner Bros’ multiverse.

Anyway – if this video game does eventuate, I’m predicting that LEGO will release a Warner Bros Multiversus companion collectible minifigure series in 2022 – probably in the 3rd or 4th quarter of the year.

Warner and LEGO already have a really strong relationship, and typically, they get one or two Collectible Minifigures Slot each year. In 2021, we got the Looney Tunes Minifigures, in 2020, we had Harry Potter Series 2 and DC Super Heroes, and in 2019 we had The LEGO Movie 2 as well.

Prior to this, I thought we’d get a 3rd Harry Potter series to coincide with the Secrets of Dumbledore movie in 2022, but with news of Warner Bros Multiversus breaking, and seeing Warner’s new cameo-laden Space Jam 2 and how they’re looking to tie in all their properties, I’ve changed my mind – I think we’ll get a Multiversus Collectible Minifigures series, probably in September 2022 featuring some of Warner’s biggest names.

Ethan Hunt

it’s quite poetic, and I hope to see a lot more from LEGO and Warner Bros on this, if it happens. It’s a big IF, but it feels like a spiritual successor to LEGO Dimensions, seeing all of WB’s properties converge like this.

And hey, maybe this is how we’ll eventually get a Lebron James Tune Squad minifigure after all!

Maybe… this is what Matthew Ashton was referring to as his dream license, and not muppets.

This is in no way a leak, and I have not been fed any information at all – just a fanciful but educated prediction, that I’d LOVE to see in 2022, and as a way for LEGO to leverage their partnership with Warner Bros and their extensive library of IP!

What do you think? Can you see LEGO doing a Warner Bros Multiversus minifigures series in 2022?

Hmm, so this would include all of Warner Bros, Hanna-Barbera, Cartoon Network and DC franchises? That would make a massive roster to pick from, anyway.

As for Harry Potter, I don’t know. The scope of the characters seems so limited, so I have trouble seeing many popular characters that haven’t been made already. I felt unsure if there was a big enough market for let’s say a sixth variant of Harry, Ron and Hermione, despite that there already is a running theme…
