Buying Guide: All the new LEGO sets releasing on 1 May 2022 plus Star Wars Day offers

It’s the 1st of May tomorrow, which is traditionally an exciting time for LEGO Star Wars fans with the launch of the first UCS set of 2022 75341 Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder, which will be available for LEGO VIPs (be sure to be signed into your LEGO.com account to order)

LEGO’s May the 4th / Star Wars Days offers will also begin tomorrow, but outside of LEGO Star Wars, there’s a small but very exciting release slate in May, with long-awaited (and fairly inexpensive) sets like 10311 Orchid and 10309 Succulents, 76989 Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck, Muppets Minifigures, 11021 90 Years of Play and 41713 Olivia’s Space Academy rounding out the releases.

In case you missed out on the Horizon Tallneck, it’s also available on Amazon.com or Amazon Australia

My game plan for Star Wars Day will not include the UCS Landspeeder, as I’ve opted to wait for a better sale/discount on it, and am in no rush to add it to my collection. Ever since the XP-38 came out, they just aren’t in demand, as the saying goes.

Instead, to qualify for the 40531 Lars Family Homestead Kitchen gift with purchase (GWP), I’ll be picking up the dioramas – 75330 Dagobah Jedi Training Diorama and 75329 Death Star Trench Run Diorama at the stroke of midnight, which will just put me over the line!

I’ll also be picking up the LEGO Friends 41713 Olivia’s Space Academy, because hey, it’s a space set!

To help you navigate the selection of May 2022 LEGO releases, I’ve put a guide together on all the new sets being released on the 1st of May onwards!

Star Wars Day 2022 (May the 4th) Offers

To entice you to part with your hard-earned imperial credits on May the 4th, LEGO also has the following GWPs (gift with purchase) valid from 1 – 4 May 2022.

  • 40531 Lars Family Homestead Kitchen when you spend over US$160/AU$229/NZD$229 on LEGO Star Wars sets

  • AT-ST polybag with purchases of US$40/£40/40€ (not available in Australia)

See below for the direct links to the LEGO Star Wars Day hub on your respective LEGO.com sites:

Here’s a list of eligible sets that qualify for Double VIP Points:

LEGO Star Wars UCS Landspeeder

The 1,890-piece LEGO UCS Landspeeder will retail for US$199.99 / AU$319.99 and will available from LEGO.com or your local LEGO Stores, just in time for Star Wars Day on May the 4th.

It’s probably the biggest release in May, but personally, I’m not too excited about it.

LEGO VIPs will have early access to the LEGO UCS Landspeeder, with a release date of 1 May 2022, ahead of a general release on 4 May 2022 for everyone else.

See below for regional pricing and links:

Be sure to check out reviews of the UCS Landspeeder from Brickset, The Rambling Brick or New Elementary to see if it’s right for you!

LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection

The LEGO Star Wars Diorama Collection was technically released in late April, but to take advantage of the Star Wars Day offers, now’s a great time to jump on them to quality for the 40531 Lars Family Homestead Kitchen gift with purchase (GWP).

LEGO Orchid and Succulents

Also releasing on the 1st of May are the new additions to LEGO’s Botanical Collection: 10311 Orchid and 10309 Succulents, those botanically awesome sets.

Be sure to read my review of the LEGO Orchid and LEGO Succulents to see more of the sets. I especially liked the Orchid, giving it a rare 5/5 rating in my review.

Apart from releasing on LEGO.com, these sets will also be available from other toy retailers, or Amazon.

76989 Horizon Forbidden West: Tallneck

Update: The set has sold out, and is on backorder in the US. If you missed out on the Horizon Tallneck, it’s also available on Amazon.com or Amazon Australia

This might’ve fallen off your radar, but I think this is the most exciting release of May – 76989 Horizon Forbidden West Tallneck is out on the 1st, and is a unique, and gorgeous set that won’t break the bank.

Be sure to check out my review of the Horizon Tallneck set for more photos, and full thoughts. I absolutely enjoyed this, and would even recommend it to people who don’t play Horizon video game as it’s such as satisfying build.

LEGO Muppets Minifigures

The LEGO Muppets Minifigures will be released globally on 1 May 2022, and will be available from LEGO.com either as individual blind bags, or in a 6-pack configuration.

Unfortunately, like previous Collectible Minifigures Series, The Muppets will be delayed in Australia, launching in June 2022.

Each LEGO Muppets Minifigures blind bag will retail for US$4.99 in the US, AU$5.99 in Australia and £3.49 in the UK, and they’ll be available from 1 May 2022 onwards.

Check out my review of the LEGO Muppets minifigures for a closer look at the series!

LEGO Classic 90 Years of Play

For fans of the classics, and those looking to celebrate LEGO’s 90th Anniversary, the first LEGO set celebrating LEGO’s 90-year heritage is 11021 90 Years of Play, a Classic LEGO set.

Like most LEGO Classic sets, this is just a large, do-what-you-want with the bricks, but the suggested models pay homage to some of the most iconic sets and themes, from Pirates, to Classic Space, to Belville, to Bionicle.

Isn’t this Bionicle Tahu the cutest thing ever?

41713 Olivia’s Space Academy

Last but not least is an all-new, out of cycle LEGO Friends set, 41713 Olivia’s Space Academy which sends the Olivia into space! I didn’t realise Heartlake City had a fully developed rocket program, but this is also a co-branded NASA set, and if you look on the minidoll designs, the Classic Space logo is also featured prominently.

I’ll definitely be picking this up on the first, as I just love everything this set stands for, especially the fact that it encourages young women into STEM, and I would love to expose my daughter to space exploration.

Will you be adding any of the May 2022 releases to your collection?

That’s it for the May 2022 release guide! There might be surprise releases, or GWPs left for May, especially towards the latter part, but with June 2022 being the official start of LEGO’s Summer 2022 release, I really don’t expect too much else from LEGO, but you never know what we could get surprised by..
